Steel Legion Lux

First time I saw Steel Legion Lux was back in season 3, maybe February 2013 right when it dropped. Locked it in immediately. Something about the armored military look on a mage just clicked for me. Not sure if it’s just me but Lux in heavy plating feels like Riot said “what if she enlisted” and I respect the direction.

What Steel Legion actually changes on Lux

The model is a full rework from base. Lux goes from her bright Demacian mage outfit to this grey-blue armored suit with mechanical joints and a staff that looks like it belongs in a sci-fi movie. Helmet visor down, shoulder plates, the whole military fantasy. For 975 RP this was generous in 2013.

VFX got updated across the board. Her Q binding comes out with this electric blue trail instead of the standard light orb. W shield has metallic particle effects. Honestly the E is where it shines – the zone reads like a Tesla coil dropped on the ground, crackling with energy before it pops. Ult laser has that heavy industrial feel to it, thick beam with sparks.

New recall animation too. She does this military salute thing with the staff charging up. Clean touch. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected at this price point. Been running this in Diamond for years and the abilities still read clearly in teamfights. Some older skins have clarity issues but Steel Legion Lux doesnt have that problem.

One thing that bugged me for the longest time – the auto attack particles feel slightly different weight than base. Could be wrong here but last Tuesday in a ranked game I was CSing and the autos just land with more impact. Might be placebo. Probably is.

Steel Legion line and release context

Steel Legion Lux released February 1, 2013. Part of the Steel Legion skinline alongside Steel Legion Garen, which dropped the same patch. The skinline imagines Demacian champions in this industrialized military aesthetic. Garen got the heavier tank look while Lux kept the ranged caster vibe but armored up.

975 RP for the Standard tier. No chromas available on this one. (Random aside: the splash on this skin used to be my desktop wallpaper for like two years straight, the composition with the lightning is just that good.) Shop has it permanently, you can grab it whenever. The Steel Legion line never expanded beyond these two champions which I think is a missed opportunity. Imagine Steel Legion Jarvan or Galio in that aesthetic.

Been maining Lux with this skin on and off since season 4 I think or 5 dont remember exactly. The thing about Steel Legion is it aged surprisingly well compared to other 2013 skins. Some of those early ones look rough now but the armored design holds up because it’s not trying to be flashy.

Should you pick up Steel Legion Lux?

Real verdict: if you’re a Lux main climbing through ranked and want something different from the sparkly magical girl vibes of Star Guardian or Cosmic, this is your pick. It’s the most grounded Lux skin. Military Lux. Serious Lux. 975 RP feels fair for what you get with the VFX and recall included.

The competition is steep though. Lux has like 15+ skins now and some of the newer Legendaries obviously outclass this in raw content. But there’s 6 chromas on those expensive ones and sometimes you just want the clean no-nonsense look. Played maybe 200 games with Steel Legion specifically and I keep coming back to it between the flashier options. Kinda feels like comfort food at this point. Best budget Lux skin full stop, and in the bot lane specifically when you’re running Lux support the darker color palette blends better with the Rift than her brighter skins. Skip the pricier options unless you need the voice lines and extra animations. This one does the job.
