First time I saw Pre-Void Kassadin loading in, I had to double-take. This is Kassadin before the Void got to him, and honestly the concept alone carries weight. You get a glimpse of the man before everything went wrong. Been running this skin on and off since maybe season 4 or 5, dont remember exactly, and it still holds up for what it is.
What actually changes on Pre-Void Kassadin
Not gonna lie, at 520 RP you’re getting a model swap and that’s the deal. Kassadin trades his corrupted armor for something more human. Cleaner look. More grounded. The color palette shifts away from that purple Void energy into warmer tones, leather and steel instead of otherworldly plating. His blade looks less like a Void artifact and more like an actual weapon a soldier would carry.
No new VFX on Q, W, E, or R. Voice lines stay base. No recall animation changes either. Standard voice, no new lines. For a 520 RP Standard tier skin released back in 2010, thats expected. Riot wasn’t doing custom particles on skins at this price point back then. The value here is purely in the fantasy of seeing Kassadin as a normal person.
Played maybe 30 games with this last month in Diamond and the silhouette reads differently enough that I had a Katarina flash away from my R thinking I was someone else. Could be wrong here but I think the less threatening model actually messes with people’s threat assessment in lane. Small edge, probably placebo, but I’ll take it.
The Curse of the Void line and where this fits
Pre-Void Kassadin dropped September 26, 2010. Early League. The Curse of the Void skinline explores what Void-touched champions looked like before their transformation, and Kassadin is the poster child for that concept. The whole Kassadin lore revolves around him walking into the Void to find his daughter and coming back changed. This skin is the “before” photo.
Shop has it permanently for 520 RP. One of the cheapest Kassadin options you can grab. No chromas available, which makes sense given the era and price tier. (Random aside: I actually think this skin would benefit more from chromas than half the Epic skins that get them.) The splash art is dated by modern standards but has a certain charm to it. No credited artist on file for this one, which tracks for skins from that period.
Real talk though, the Curse of the Void concept is underexplored. Riot could do so much more with pre-corruption versions of Void champions. Kassadin got one, Kog’Maw sort of has Caterpillar, but imagine Pre-Void Malzahar or Kai’Sa. The skinline has room to grow and Pre-Void Kassadin proved the idea works even with minimal execution.
Should you pick up Pre-Void Kassadin?
Verdict time. At 520 RP this is one of those skins where the price removes most arguments against it. If you main Kassadin and you care about his lore at all, this is a must-own. Not because the visual execution is groundbreaking but because the concept hits. You’re playing the version of this champion that still had hope. Kinda feels like wearing it changes the whole vibe of your Rift Walk.
That said, if you want flashy VFX and custom sounds on your Kassadin, look at Cosmic Reaver or Hextech instead. Pre-Void is for the lore enjoyers and the budget-conscious one-tricks. Had a ranked game last Tuesday where my jungler asked why my Kassadin looked “normal” and honestly that’s the best compliment this skin can get. 520 RP well spent for mains who appreciate what came before the Void consumed everything. Skip it if you only care about particle effects, but for the story it tells? S-tier concept in a budget skin package.
