Neo PAX Jax

First time I saw Neo PAX Jax pop up in the skin tab I had to double-take. Been maining Jax on and off since season 6 and the original PAX Jax was always this untouchable grail skin that you’d see maybe once every 300 games. Riot finally gave the rest of us a way in. Not gonna lie, the moment I locked in this skin for a Diamond ranked game last October I felt like I’d unlocked something that shouldnt exist.

What Neo PAX Jax actually brings to the table

The VFX overhaul is the main selling point here, and it delivers. Jax’s lamppost gets this gold-and-blue digital treatment that reads clean against every Rift backdrop I’ve tested it on. His W proc lights up with a sharp hexagonal pulse. Looks crisp in lane, looks crisp in teamfights. The E counterstrike has this geometric grid pattern spinning around him that feels distinctly PAX without being too busy.

Q leap trails a faint golden arc behind it. Subtle change – huge impact on how the ability feels when you’re jumping onto the backline. The ult passive proc on every third hit has this satisfying digital flash that’s easy to track in extended trades. Played maybe 200 games with this skin since it dropped and I still notice the third-hit indicator more reliably than on base Jax.

Voice lines stay base, which is expected for this tier. Erik Braa’s original Jax VO holds up fine honestly. No new recall animation either, so you’re getting the standard Jax recall with the updated model and VFX package. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animations feel slightly different in timing, though thats probably just the visual feedback tricking my brain. The model itself has this sleek dark blue and gold armor with circuit-line details running through it. Modernized version of the original PAX concept without losing what made that skin iconic.

(Random aside: I still think Jax has one of the best base character silhouettes in League. Big dude with a lamppost. Every skin works because the shape is so readable.)

The PAX line and how we got here

Neo PAX Jax released October 11, 2023. The PAX skinline has this weird legacy in League history. Original PAX Jax, PAX Twisted Fate, PAX Sivir. Convention exclusives from back when Riot was handing out skin codes at PAX events. Season 2 or 3 era, dont remember exactly. Those skins became some of the rarest in the game.

Jiunn Kuo and Kudos Productions handled the splash art. They cooked. The splash captures this cybernetic warrior energy with Jax standing in what looks like a digital arena, lamppost crackling with energy. It’s a strong piece that holds up next to the original PAX Jax splash while being its own thing entirely.

This Mythic tier skin sits at Special pricing, meaning you’re not just dropping 1350 RP in the shop. Available now through the Mythic shop rotation, which cycles every patch. Keep an eye on it if you want to grab it. The availability being permanent through Mythic Essence means you can plan for it, but you need to grind or convert prestige points. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I finally had enough Mythic Essence saved up and pulled the trigger immediately.

Where Neo PAX Jax sits in the Jax skin lineup

Jax has a solid roster. God Staff Jax is the go-to Legendary. Mecha Kingdoms is flashy. Conqueror Jax has the esports prestige. Empyrean is the newest full-price option. So where does Neo PAX Jax land?

Real talk though. If you care about skin rarity and flex factor, Neo PAX Jax is top tier. The PAX branding carries weight that no other Jax skin can match. In my Diamond games specifically, I’ve gotten more post-game comments about this skin than any other Jax cosmetic I own. People notice it.

From a pure VFX standpoint it competes with God Staff. The abilities read clearly, the color palette is unique in Jax’s catalog, and the model is clean without being overdesigned. I think it edges out Empyrean Jax for second-best overall, behind God Staff which still wins on the new VO and recall alone.

Been running this as my primary Jax skin this entire season. Took it into ranked for my climb through Diamond 3 and the skin just hits different when you’re splitting top and 1v2ing with the counterstrike up. Maybe just my experience but I swear I play better on skins I actually like looking at. That ranked game where my Kayn inted three kills pre-6 and I still carried the splitpush? Neo PAX Jax energy.

The honest take

Should you spend Mythic Essence on Neo PAX Jax? If you main Jax, absolutely. S-tier Jax cosmetic. The VFX are clean, the model is sharp, and the PAX legacy gives it a status that Riot can’t just replicate on any random 1350 skin. Fair warning: if you’re sitting on limited Mythic Essence and don’t play Jax regularly, there might be better value picks in the rotation for your main.

But for Jax one-tricks and anyone who remembers staring at the original PAX Jax on the wiki thinking they’d never own it? This is Riot giving you the closest thing possible. Kinda feels like they finally acknowledged that locking cool designs behind decade-old convention codes wasnt the move. Worth the grind for mains. Skip it if Jax is just your autofill top pick.
