DWG Leona

Not gonna lie, when DAMWON took Worlds 2020 I wasnt expecting Leona to get picked for a Worlds skin. BeryL locked her in though and the result is one of the cleaner esports skins Riot has put out. First time I saw this in a ranked game I had to double-take because the color scheme just pops against the Rift in a way most Worlds skins dont.

What DWG Leona actually brings

This is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP so you get the standard package: new model, new VFX, new recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no changes there. The whole visual identity shifts Leona into the DAMWON blue and white color palette. Her shield gets the DWG logo treatment which is a nice touch, subtle enough that it reads clean in teamfights without being distracting.

The VFX are where this skin earns its price. Zenith Blade (E) leaves this sharp blue trail that feels faster than base even though it obviously isnt. Solar Flare (R) drops with the DAMWON emblem which, real talk though, looks incredible in a dragon pit fight. Been running this in Diamond support games and the ult VFX specifically makes engages feel more impactful. Might be overthinking it but I think the visual clarity on W is better than most Leona skins too. The shield burst has a clean blue pulse instead of the usual solar gold.

Recall animation has BeryL’s signature champion pose, standard for Worlds skins. Quick and clean. Nothing groundbreaking but it fits the theme. The model itself is solid, dark blues with white and gold accents. Leona’s sword and shield both carry the DAMWON branding without looking like a billboard. (Random aside: the shield design on this skin is genuinely my phone lock screen, the logo integration is that good.)

The World Champions 2020 line and release context

DWG Leona dropped April 29, 2021. Part of the World Champions: 2020 skinline celebrating DAMWON Gaming’s Worlds run. Jennifer Wuestling handled the artwork and the splash captures the competitive energy well. Leona standing with that blue aura, shield forward. Clean composition.

The World Champions line is always hit or miss. Some years the skins feel phoned in, some years they cook. The 2020 set landed somewhere above average I think. DWG Leona sits comfortably in the upper half. Played maybe 40 games with it last season around February and the skin held up well even next to newer releases.

There’s 1 chroma available, the Elite version. Dark navy base with brighter blue accents. Honestly the Elite chroma reads a bit too similar to the base skin in lane. The color shift is subtle enough that in bot lane specifically you might not even notice the difference during a 2v2 engage. Could be wrong here but I think the base version actually looks sharper.

Should you pick up DWG Leona for 1350 RP?

Here’s the thing. Legacy vault skin. You cant just grab this whenever you want, its in the Legacy pool so you either wait for a vault opening or roll it from Hextech crafting. That scarcity adds some value if you care about running skins most people dont have. Seen maybe 5 of these across two full seasons of ranked.

Leona has a stacked skin lineup. Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse exist. High Noon Leona exists. PROJECT Leona exists. DWG Leona isnt competing for best Leona skin, thats not the point. Its a clean esports commemoration skin that plays well and looks sharp. If you main Leona and you care about Worlds history or you just want something different from the usual fantasy themes, this delivers. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get.

For Leona one-tricks who rotate skins, this is a strong addition. For casual Leona players, maybe wait and see if it shows up in your loot. Skip it if you already have Solar Eclipse or Lunar Eclipse and dont feel the need for variety. But if that DWG blue calls to you the way it called to me last Tuesday at 1 AM during a late night grind session, just lock it in. No regrets.
