Imperial Mandate is a 2,400 gold support mage item in League of Legends: 60 Ability Power, 15 Ability Haste and 150% Base Mana Regen in patch 26.21. Its two passives reward crowd control, giving extra Ability Haste to your Immobilizing abilities and marking champions you stun or root as Vulnerable.

What do the Control and Command passives do?

Control is simple. Your abilities that have an Immobilizing effect (stuns, roots, knock-ups and the like) get 20 extra Ability Haste on top of the item’s stats, so the spell you build your whole game around comes back sooner.

Command is the team part. When you Immobilize an enemy champion, they’re marked as 7% Vulnerable for 4 seconds, which means your whole team hits them a bit harder while the mark lasts. Short window, real payoff. Isn’t that what a support wants from a utility item?

Put simply, the item does nothing extra unless you land crowd control on champions. Miss the root, and you’ve bought plain stats.

Which champions get the most from Imperial Mandate?

Enchanters and mage supports with a reliable root or stun, plus a few control mages in mid lane who lock targets down for their jungler. The more often your Immobilizing spell hits a champion, the more value the mark gives (a support who lands a snare every fight gets a lot more from it than one who mostly heals and shields).

Who shouldn’t buy it? Pure healers with no hard crowd control, because neither passive triggers for them. To be fair, the stats alone still aren’t bad, but other support items such as Ardent Censer give those champions more for a similar price.

Is it gold efficient?

Yes, at 106% on raw stats: 2,550 gold of value for a 2,400 gold price.

The breakdown: 60 Ability Power is worth 1,200 gold at 20 per point, 15 Ability Haste 750 gold, and the mana regen another 600. Honestly, that’s a strong number before either passive is counted, and for a support living on low gold income an item that pays for itself in stats is a comfortable pick even in games where the stuns don’t land.

What does Imperial Mandate build from?

Two Amplifying Tomes (400 gold each) and Bandleglass Mirror (900 gold), then a 700 gold combine. Bandleglass Mirror is the piece that brings Ability Haste and mana regen, so it’s the usual first buy after your support item quest. The Tomes are cheap enough to pick up on a short back. Nothing builds out of the finished item.

How has it changed over the patches?

It first shows up in Riot’s data in patch 10.23, back when it was a mythic item. The recent changes:

  • Patch 13.10: cost 2,500 → 2,300 gold, with the stat line reworked.
  • Patch 14.19: cost 2,300 → 2,250 gold.
  • Patch 26.11: cost 2,250 → 2,400 gold, Ability Power 60 → 65, Ability Haste 20 → 15, Base Mana Regen 125% → 150%, effect text changed.
  • Patch 26.13: Ability Power 65 → 60, effect text changed.

So 26.11 made it pricier and traded haste for mana, and two patches later Riot took a little Ability Power back. Older versions sit in the table above too, while our LoL items database lists the patch notes of every other support pick.

When should you buy it?

When your champion’s game plan is landing a stun or root and having teammates follow up. Thing is, Command only helps if someone is there to hit the marked target in those 4 seconds, so it shines in lanes and teams that fight together. Our guide to LoL roles explains what supports usually do; for crowd control supports Imperial Mandate is a natural first item.
