Build path
Gold efficiency
| Stat | Amount | Gold per point | Gold value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health | 300 | 2.67 g | 800 g |
| Ability Power | 60 | 20 g | 1200 g |
| Ability Haste | 20 | 50 g | 1000 g |
| Attack Speed % | 20 | 25 g | 500 g |
| Total stat value | 3500 g |
Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 3500 ÷ 3100 = 113%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted.

Dusk and Dawn is a 3,100 gold legendary item in League of Legends for champions who cast a spell and then hit something: 300 Health, 60 Ability Power, 20 Ability Haste and 20% Attack Speed in patch 26.21. Its Spellblade passive makes the next attack after an ability deal bonus magic damage, heal you, and apply your on-hit effects a second time.
What does this version of Spellblade do?
Three things at once. After you use an ability, your next basic attack deals bonus magic damage, heals you for the on-hit damage, and then triggers every on-hit effect you own one extra time. That last clause is the unusual part: a champion carrying other on-hit items gets all of them twice on the empowered hit.
How much damage and healing? Both numbers scale with your stats, and Riot’s data files hand them to the in-game tooltip rather than listing them, so your shop screen in the client is the place to read the exact values for your build.
The rhythm is the same as any Spellblade item: ability, attack, ability, attack. Long story short, the more cheaply and often your champion can cast, the more empowered hits you land, and the 20 Ability Haste on the item exists to make that loop tighter.
Is Dusk & Dawn worth the gold?
Yes, and comfortably. The four stats come to 3,500 gold against a 3,100 gold price, a gold efficiency of 113% before Spellblade does anything. Put simply, the passive sits on top of a fair stat purchase, it isn’t the thing that justifies the price.
Priced off basic items of the same patch: 300 Health at 2.67 gold per point is 800 gold, 60 Ability Power at 20 gold per point is 1,200, 20 Ability Haste at 50 gold per point is 1,000, and 20% Attack Speed at 25 gold per percent adds 500. The catch is that the item only feels that efficient on a champion who uses all four stats (an AP fighter who attacks a lot, in other words), because a pure mage wastes the Attack Speed and a pure attacker wastes the Ability Power.
What does the build path look like?
Four components, which is more than most legendaries: Sheen (900 gold), Blasting Wand (850 gold), Kindlegem (800 gold) and a Dagger (250 gold), then only 300 gold to combine. Sheen first is the standard order, since it carries its own Spellblade proc and starts the ability-then-attack pattern early, and the small combine cost means the last back before completing it is cheap.
It builds into nothing further. Finished item.
How has the item changed over the patches?
It’s one of the newest items in the shop. Riot’s data first lists it in patch 26.1, and it has already been tuned twice:
- Patch 26.3: Health 300 → 350.
- Patch 26.9: Ability Power 70 → 60, Attack Speed 25% → 20%, Health 350 → 300, effect text changed.
The 26.9 change pulled back all three of the main stats and rewrote the passive text in the same patch, which is the pattern you see when an item launches a little too strong. To be fair, the gold efficiency survived the cut. The LoL items database keeps the full list of changes, and for an item this young, expect that list to grow.
Who should buy Dusk & Dawn?
AP champions who weave basic attacks between spells and benefit from on-hit effects: fighters and skirmishers who scale with Ability Power but spend half the fight auto-attacking. The healing on the empowered hit also gives them some sustain in extended trades (handy in a long top-lane duel where neither side wants to back first), and the Health makes the stat line less glassy than a pure mage item.
Is it a mage item? Not really. A backline caster who rarely attacks gets the Ability Power and Haste and little else, and Rabadon’s Deathcap or a mana item will serve that champion better. Compare it with Trinity Force, which fills the same role for Attack Damage fighters, and the split is obvious: AD caster-fighters take Trinity Force, AP ones take this item. Not sure where a hybrid fighter even belongs on the map? Our guide to LoL roles covers that, and honestly, the quickest test is whether your champion’s main spell empowers the next attack; if it does, Dusk and Dawn was built for you.
