Akshan Skins

3 skins available

Akshan is one of those champions where the skin catalog feels painfully thin. Three skins total as of 2024, and one of them you cant even buy. Been playing him on and off since his release in 2021, mostly as a mid lane pick when I need to punish passive laners, and honestly the skin situation has been my biggest complaint. Not the grappling hook bugs. Not the revive passive discourse. The skins. Three years on the Rift and Riot gave him three cosmetics. Could be wrong here but I think thats the smallest active roster for any champion released post-2020.

Akshan's Skin Collection: Small but Not Empty

Three skins. That's the whole list. Cyber Pop Akshan dropped alongside his champion release in July 2021, Crystal Rose Akshan came later that same year, and Three Honors Akshan landed in 2024 as a reward skin. Two Epics at 1350 RP each and one Standard tier you earn through the honor system. No Legendary. No Prestige. No Ultimate. Just two shop options and a freebie.

For context, champions like Lux and Ezreal are sitting on 15+ skins while Akshan is out here with three. Not gonna lie, it stings a little when you main a newer champion. The upside is both purchasable skins are Epic tier, which means new VFX on abilities, new recall animations, and solid model changes. Neither one phones it in. Riot didn't drop a 750 RP recolor and call it a day.

The year range tells the story pretty clearly. 2021 to 2024 with a three-year gap between Crystal Rose and Three Honors. That's a long drought if you were waiting for something fresh. (Random aside: I remember checking surrender@20 every patch cycle for like eight months straight hoping for an Akshan skin announcement.) Season 12 and most of season 13 just nothing. The honor skin finally broke the silence but its not exactly something you can impulse-buy from the shop.

Real talk though, the quality-to-quantity ratio works in Akshan's favor. Both Epic skins change enough to feel distinct from base, and since there's only three options total, you're not wading through a dozen mediocre 975 RP skins to find the good ones. Every skin in the catalog pulls its weight. Small catalog, no filler.

Best Skins for Akshan

With only three skins this section writes itself, but there's still a clear ranking. Been running Cyber Pop in my Diamond games since season 12 and it holds up. The neon aesthetic on his Q boomerang is clean. Like genuinely clean. The swing animation on his E grapple gets this digitized trail effect that reads well in teamfights, and the recall where he poses with the hoverboard thing is one of those animations I never skip.

Cyber Pop Akshan takes the base kit and pushes it into this retro-futuristic space. The W mark on enemies has a different visual indicator that I think is actually easier to track than default. Might be overthinking it but the cyan coloring pops more against the Rift's green and brown palette. His ult channels with these tech-grid overlays that look expensive for 1350 RP. The auto attacks have a satisfying digital snap to them. Spammed maybe 40 games with this skin last split and the sound design alone kept me coming back.

Crystal Rose Akshan is the elegant alternative. White and gold color scheme, floral VFX on abilities, the whole romantic fantasy package. His Q throws out rose petals instead of the standard boomerang effect, and the E swing leaves a trail of crystallized flowers. Gorgeous skin. The splash art specifically is one of the better ones in the Crystal Rose line. Problem is the VFX can get a little noisy in lane. Had a game last Wednesday where I genuinely lost track of my Q return in a botlane skirmish because the petal effects blended with Zyra plants. Edge case for sure but it happened.

Kinda feels like Crystal Rose is the "show off in normals" skin while Cyber Pop is the "tryhard in ranked" skin. The readability difference is real. Crystal Rose looks better in screenshots, Cyber Pop looks better in motion during actual gameplay. Personal preference obviously but I lean Cyber Pop for climbing and Crystal Rose when Im playing with friends and want to look fancy.

Three Honors Akshan sits in third by default. Standard tier means no new VFX and no new audio. Model changes only. The blue and gold honor-themed outfit looks decent, the cape is a nice touch, but without ability VFX changes it just doesn't compete with the two Epics. It's free though. Earned through the honor system. Hard to complain about a skin that costs zero RP. If you got it, cool. If you didnt, you're not missing much visually.

Skinlines and Thematic Fit

Akshan sits in three skinlines and two of them actually suit him. Cyber Pop is the standout. The retro-tech aesthetic meshes with his roguish personality. He's already this swashbuckling action-hero type in base form, and adding a digital/synthwave layer to that fantasy just works. The skinline itself isn't massive but Akshan fits it better than most champions would.

Crystal Rose is the pretty-boy pick. The skinline leans into this fairytale elegance that contrasts hard with Akshan's usual energy. Not sure if it's just me but I think the contrast is what makes it interesting. Seeing this cocky marksman wrapped in white roses and gold filigree is funny in a good way. The splash captures it perfectly - he's still got that smirk, still got the swagger, just covered in flowers now. (Sidebar for Akshan mains specifically: the Crystal Rose recall where he catches a rose mid-air is peak character.)

Three Honors is less a skinline and more a reward category. Every season Riot drops honor skins for a few champions and Akshan got his in 2024. Thematically it's "you were a good teammate" which. Fine. Its not really a fantasy you're buying into so much as a badge you earned. The blue and gold palette is clean enough but it doesn't tell a story the way Cyber Pop or Crystal Rose does.

What I really want to see is Akshan in something grittier. Crime City Nightmare Akshan. PROJECT Akshan. High Noon Akshan with a lasso instead of a grappling hook. The champion's kit is so expressive that he deserves skinlines with strong visual identity. Maybe season 15. Copium.

Budget vs Premium: What to Pick

Budget options for Akshan are basically nonexistent in the traditional sense. You've got two 1350 RP Epics and one free honor skin. There's no 520 or 750 RP discount option to grab if you're trying to save blue essence or RP. The cheapest purchasable skin is 1350 and both options cost that exact amount.

If you're picking one skin and only one, go Cyber Pop. Been daily driving it since I picked up Akshan seriously in season 13 and the VFX clarity is worth every point of RP. Crystal Rose is the alternative if you prefer aesthetics over readability. Both are solid 1350 skins that deliver above average for the price point.

Three Honors is technically free but you cant just buy it. Need to maintain honor level 5 and then it shows up as a reward option. Not exactly a budget pick when the cost is "be a good person in League of Legends for an entire season." Harder than it sounds some days. Worth grinding for if you already main Akshan, not worth changing your champion pool over.

No Legendary exists for Akshan yet which means there's no premium tier to splurge on even if you wanted to. 1350 RP is both the floor and ceiling. Fair warning, that also means no unique voice lines on any skin. Base VO across the board. The day Riot drops a Legendary Akshan skin with new voice lines and a unique E animation is the day I'm pre-purchasing the bundle. No hesitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Akshan have?

Akshan has 3 skins total as of 2024. Two Epic tier skins at 1350 RP each - Cyber Pop and Crystal Rose - plus Three Honors Akshan which is a Standard tier reward skin from the honor system. Pretty small catalog for a champion thats been out since 2021. Hoping Riot adds more soon because the options feel limited.

What is the best Akshan skin?

Cyber Pop Akshan. Not close for me. The VFX are crisp and readable in ranked, the neon aesthetic fits his personality, and the recall animation is genuinely fun to watch. Crystal Rose is beautiful but Cyber Pop wins on gameplay clarity. Been my go-to Akshan skin since season 12.

What is the cheapest Akshan skin?

Technically Three Honors Akshan is free since you earn it through the honor system. But if we're talking shop purchases, both Cyber Pop and Crystal Rose cost 1350 RP. There's no budget 520 or 750 RP option for Akshan. The cheapest you can buy is 1350.

Does Akshan have a Legendary skin?

Nope. No Legendary, no Ultimate, no Mythic. Akshan's highest tier skins are Epic at 1350 RP. Means no unique voice lines or special animations beyond what Epic tier offers. Honestly feels like an oversight at this point. Champion's kit is perfect for a Legendary with unique E and R animations.

What skinlines is Akshan in?

Three skinlines: Cyber Pop, Crystal Rose, and Three Honors. Cyber Pop is the retro-tech fantasy, Crystal Rose is the elegant floral theme, and Three Honors is the seasonal honor reward line. Think Cyber Pop fits him best personally. Crystal Rose is the pretty alternative.

Does Akshan have chromas?

Both Epic skins have chromas available. Cyber Pop and Crystal Rose each come with chroma sets you can grab from the shop. Three Honors does not have chromas. If you want color variety on your Akshan skin, the two Epics have you covered with multiple options each.

When was Akshan's last skin released?

Three Honors Akshan in 2024. Before that it was Crystal Rose back in 2021. Yep, three year gap between skins. Longest drought I can remember for a relatively popular champion. Could be wrong but I think only a handful of champs went that long without a new skin post-release.

Is Akshan worth buying skins for?

If you main him or play him regularly in ranked, yes. Cyber Pop alone justifies the 1350 RP. His base skin is fine but the Epic VFX upgrades make abilities feel more impactful. Wouldn't buy both unless you really love the champion though. One Epic is enough given the small catalog. Pick Cyber Pop for ranked, Crystal Rose for style.
