First time I saw Cyber Pop Akshan load in, I thought someone modded a rhythm game character into League. The neon palette and the pixel-art vibe hit completely different from what I expected out of Akshan’s first skin. Locked it in for maybe 15 ranked games that first week and honestly wasnt sure if I loved it or just loved the novelty. Couple hundred games later, I have a clearer take.

What Cyber Pop actually changes on Akshan

The model rework is solid for an Epic tier skin. Akshan swaps his Shuriman rogue look for this retro-futuristic aesthetic with chunky headphones, a glowing visor, and what I can only describe as a cable-knit hoodie that somehow works in a cyberpunk setting. His grappling hook gets this pixelated trail effect on his E that honestly makes it easier to track in teamfights. Not sure if it’s just me but the swing arc feels visually cleaner than base.

Q throws out these little digitized boomerang particles. They read well against the Rift, especially in river fights where the teal-green pops against the darker ground. W passive marks get a subtle glow-up too, the revive indicator has this glitchy static overlay that looks sick when you actually proc it. Real talk though, the R is where the VFX budget went. The lock-on targeting reticle goes full arcade mode, bright geometric shapes closing in on the backline carry you’re hunting down.

New recall animation has Akshan playing some kind of handheld console. Cute detail. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for 1350 RP. The sound design on abilities leans into chiptune territory without going overboard. Each Q throw has this satisfying 8-bit ping to it.

(Random aside: the recall animation reminds me of playing my DS during queue times back in season 10 or 11, dont remember exactly.)

The Cyber Pop line and where Akshan fits

Cyber Pop released July 22, 2021. That was right when Akshan himself dropped, so this was his launch skin. West Studio handled the splash, they captured this arcade-meets-streetwear energy perfectly. The composition has Akshan mid-swing through what looks like a neon-drenched server room. Clean work.

The Cyber Pop skinline is one of those smaller Riot lines that never quite blew up. Zoe got one too. Kinda feels like the line was testing waters for the more polished arcade aesthetic they’d push later. Akshan fits naturally here though. His kit is flashy enough to carry the theme, especially that E swing through lane with all the trailing pixels.

8 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to for ranked, the dark tones make the neon VFX contrast harder and it reads cleaner in late-game teamfights when particle effects are everywhere. Tanzanite pulls off this deep purple vibe that hits the mage fantasy angle surprisingly well for an ADC skin. Pearl exists for the clean minimalist look but I think it washes out some of the detail on the model. Ruby is fine, standard red recolor, nothing to write home about.

Shop has it. 1350 RP, permanent availability. Been there since launch day.

Should you pick up Cyber Pop Akshan?

Okay, the real question. If you’re an Akshan main grinding mid lane or flexing bot, this was the only option for a while and it holds up. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX package is above average for Epic tier, especially that E and R. Could be wrong here but I think the auto-attack animations feel slightly snappier than base, might just be placebo from the cleaner particle effects.

Been running this in Diamond since around patch 11.15 and the skin aged well. Last Tuesday I had a game where I swung into dragon pit with E, picked up a triple, and the pixel trails looked genuinely cinematic. Those moments sell the skin more than any splash art can.

Where it falls short: the theme is niche. If you want something that feels more grounded or serious for Akshan, Crystal Rose exists now. Cyber Pop is the fun pick, the “I’m here to have a good time in solo queue” skin. Three Honors is the flex pick. But for pure visual enjoyment game after game, Cyber Pop Akshan still holds its own. Worth 1350 if you main Akshan, easy skip if you’re just picking him as a counter once every 20 games. The chromas add longevity though. Rotating between Obsidian and Tanzanite keeps it fresh even after hundreds of games this season.

Might be overthinking it but I genuinely believe this is one of the better launch skins Riot has put out. Not S-tier, not a must-buy for everyone, but a solid addition that Akshan one-tricks should have in rotation. Banger for the price.
