League of Legends on PS4: The Full Story Behind Console Availability
League of Legends on PS4 isn’t available, and neither is a PS5 version: League runs only on Windows PCs and Macs. Riot’s PlayStation games are Valorant and 2XKO, and both need a PS5, not a PS4. Why isn’t League of Legends on PS4 or PS5?
Because League was designed for a mouse from day one. You move by right-clicking, aim skillshots at the cursor, flick the camera around the map and press item and ability keys constantly. A DualShock or DualSense has no good equivalent for that, and Riot has never shown interest in a controller-based League.
Instead, Riot built a different game for platforms without a mouse. When it announced Wild Rift on October 15, 2019, its press release described “a new 5v5 MOBA for mobile and console,” built from scratch with twin-stick controls and a rebuilt map designed for shorter games. Riot said mobile would come first, with console “sometime after.” The mobile version launched; a console version still hasn’t appeared as of October 2026, and Riot hasn’t given an update on it in years.
Look, the rumour has a real origin. So when PlayStation players hear “League is coming to console,” that likely traces back to the 2019 Wild Rift announcement, not to the PC game.
Can a PS4 run any Riot game at all? Not currently. Riot’s console games target the current generation only. Riot’s console guide lists Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 as the consoles you need for Valorant, and 2XKO follows the same hardware line. A PS4 owner who wants a Riot game today has two realistic routes: a PC (for League, Valorant, TFT and 2XKO) or a phone (for Wild Rift and TFT).
Is that frustrating if a PS4 is your only gaming device? Sure. But it’s consistent: Riot hasn’t released anything on PS4, so there’s no older version to fall back on either.
Valorant and 2XKO on PS5
If you’ve upgraded to a PS5, Riot’s two console games are free to play there. Valorant on PS5 matches you with PlayStation and Xbox players, not PC players, and shares your skins, agents, currencies and battle pass progress with PC through your Riot account. Rank and MMR stay separate per platform. 2XKO, Riot’s fighting game with League champions as fighters, supports crossplay with PC and Xbox, according to Riot’s console access guide.
PlayStation Plus adds a small bonus for Valorant players. Riot’s support page on “VALORANT X PS+” bundles says members on any tier can claim free exclusive content from Valorant’s add-ons on the PlayStation Store or website, that the content stays on your account permanently even if your subscription ends, and that bundles rotate “about every three months.” The loot also works when you play on PC, since most account content crosses over. How to play League if you only have a PlayStation
You’ll need a computer, though not necessarily an expensive one. League is light on hardware, and our LoL system requirements page lists Riot’s minimum and recommended specs. Plenty of mid-range laptops run it well, and a desktop you already own for school or work may handle it without any upgrades. A wired connection helps more than a powerful graphics card, since League is far more sensitive to lag than to frame rate once you’re past the minimum. Coming from a controller, expect an adjustment period. Honestly, the first few games with mouse movement feel clumsy, and that’s normal. Start slow. Co-op vs AI or ARAM is the gentle way in before you play against people who’ve used a mouse for years. Can you stream League of Legends on PS4?

Wild Rift is the closest thing to a portable League, and it’s worth understanding what it is before writing it off. Riot’s 2019 announcement said it was “not a port of LoL on PC” but a new game built from scratch, with a twin-stick control scheme and a rebuilt Rift designed for 15 to 18 minute games. It uses League champions, items and the same basic structure (three lanes, a jungle, turrets, Baron and dragons) in a shorter, touch-friendly form.
Does that make it a substitute? For some players, yes. If what you want is quick matches with familiar champions on the sofa, a phone and Wild Rift come closer than anything on a PlayStation. If you want the full depth of the PC game, it isn’t the same thing, and Riot never claimed it was.
Linking PlayStation and your Riot account
If you do play Valorant or 2XKO on PS5, the account you link matters. Riot’s console guide says a Riot account is required to play on console, and it warns players to “use the correct Riot Account when linking.” Your content carries between PC and console, so link the account you’d use on PC too. That way, if you later buy a PC for League, your Riot ID, friends list and Valorant inventory are already where you need them. The guide also notes that your account must be in good standing, with no active bans or suspensions, before console access works.
PlayStation-friendly alternatives to League
If what you like about League is the team play, the closest Riot experience on PS5 is Valorant: five-player teams, distinct characters with abilities and a competitive ranked ladder. If it’s League’s champions and world you love, 2XKO puts them in a fighting game. And if you just want League itself on the go, Wild Rift on your phone is the official answer, with League champions, a smaller map and matches built to be shorter than on the Rift.
Thing is, the PlayStation and the PC don’t have to compete. For what it’s worth, a split setup works well: League on a modest PC, Valorant or 2XKO on the PS5 with friends. Your Riot account ties it all together. Long story short, the console handles the shooter and the fighting game, the PC handles League, and nobody has to pick a side.
Will League of Legends ever come to PS5?
Riot hasn’t announced anything, and its history points away from a port. In seventeen years Riot has expanded with new games designed for each platform rather than moving League itself. Could a console League happen someday? Possibly, but it would likely look more like Wild Rift than like the PC game.
