FAQ
What are LoL Runes?
Pre-match customization: pick a Keystone (main ability), 3 sub-runes on primary path, 2 sub-runes on secondary path, and 3 stat shards. Total 9 active runes per match. Differ per champion and role.
How do I set up runes?
Champion Select → Runes tab → Create new page → pick Keystone and sub-runes → Save. In-game, your runes apply at match start.
How many rune pages can I have?
2 default. Purchase additional pages for 7,000 Blue Essence each. Max is typically 10 but can go higher with BE investment.
Which Keystone is best for my champion?
Varies per champion and build. Check in-client Recommended runes or external sites (u.gg, op.gg) for current meta. For most ADC → Lethal Tempo; most mages → Summon Aery; tanks → Aftershock.
What are stat shards?
3 small bonus stats you pick in addition to your 6 runes. Options include Adaptive Force (AD/AP), Attack Speed, Ability Haste, Armor, MR, Move Speed, Scaling HP. Each slot has different options.
Can I change runes mid-match?
No. Runes lock when the match starts. If you want different runes for a specific matchup, create a different rune page before queueing.
Do pro players use the recommended runes?
Not always. Pro Builds aggregates what top players actually use, which often differs from in-client recommendations. For solo queue climb, the in-client recommended is usually safe.
