Roblox Purchase Verification: Protect from Overspend

Verified November 7, 2026 · Status: live security feature
Roblox Purchase Verification is a password-confirmation step before Robux purchases above a threshold (default 1,000 Robux), protecting against accidental charges and account compromise — enable at Settings → Security → Purchase Verification, set your own Robux threshold, and combine with Account PIN and 2-step verification for layered security. Symptom → cause → first action
| Problem | Likely cause | First action |
|---|---|---|
| “Password required” on every buy | Verification threshold too low, or every purchase flagged | Raise threshold; disable if preferred |
| Password prompt loops | Caps Lock or wrong password | Reset at account.roblox.com if stuck |
| Kid made unauthorized charge | No Purchase Verification set + saved payment | Enable verification + Account Restrictions |
| Can’t disable verification | Account PIN also protects this toggle | Enter PIN, then disable |
| Prompt appears even below threshold | Suspicious-activity flag | Change password; check sessions |
| Want to re-enable after turning off | Settings → Security | Toggle on + set threshold |
How Purchase Verification works
- You set a Robux threshold (default 1,000).
- Every Robux purchase at or above that threshold requires re-entering your account password.
- Purchases below the threshold go through without prompt.
- Works on web, mobile, and console (where available).
- Does NOT require 2-step verification code — just the password.
- Can be combined with Account PIN and 2SV for stronger protection.
Enable + configure
| Platform | Steps |
|---|---|
| Web (roblox.com) | Settings → Security → Purchase Verification → toggle ON → set your Robux threshold. |
| Mobile app (iOS / Android) | Three dots → Settings → Security → Purchase Verification → toggle + threshold. |
| Xbox / PS5 | Enable from web; prompt enforces on console automatically. |
| Under-13 accounts | Account Restrictions blocks spending entirely — more restrictive than Purchase Verification. |
Threshold choices
| Threshold | What it protects | Who it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| 0 Robux (every purchase) | Password on every buy | Shared devices, kid accounts under parent supervision |
| 100 Robux | Almost all purchases | Cautious players |
| 1,000 Robux (default) | Only expensive items | Most adults — balance between security and convenience |
| 10,000 Robux | Only big-ticket limiteds / mass purchases | Collectors who make lots of small buys |
Purchase Verification vs other security
| Feature | What it protects | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase Verification | Big Robux purchases | Per-purchase above threshold |
| Account PIN | Sensitive settings (email, password, 2SV) | Per settings change |
| 2-step verification | Login itself | Per login from new device |
| Account Restrictions | Entire account into kid mode | Permanent until parent disables |
| Payment-level controls (Apple/Google) | Store charges before Robux conversion | Per App Store purchase |
If verification isn’t working
- Password prompt doesn’t accept your password? → caps lock, or you’re using an old password. Reset at account.roblox.com.
- Prompt appears below your threshold? → Roblox flagged the purchase as suspicious. Confirm the password; if you didn’t make the purchase, see hacked account recovery.
- Want to turn verification off? → requires Account PIN if you enabled one. Enter PIN, then disable.
- Kid made unauthorized charge? → Settings → Account Restrictions (blocks spending entirely). Or request refund under 72-hour window — see refund policy.
- Related: Account PIN, 2-step verification, parental controls, error codes.
- Still stuck → Roblox Support ticket with username, approximate charge time, exact issue.
FAQ
What is Purchase Verification?
A password-confirmation step that triggers when you try to buy Robux-priced items at or above a threshold you set. Protects against both accidental over-spending and purchases made by someone using your logged-in session.
Where do I enable Purchase Verification?
Settings → Security → Purchase Verification. Available on web and mobile; console inherits the setting once configured on web or mobile.
What’s the default threshold?
1,000 Robux. Any purchase at or above triggers the password prompt. You can lower it to 0 (prompt every purchase) or raise it as high as you like.
Does it require 2SV?
No — just the account password. 2SV is a separate feature for login protection. Combining both gives layered defense: 2SV at login, Purchase Verification at checkout.
Why am I prompted on a cheap purchase?
Roblox sometimes flags purchases as suspicious — unusual item, new device, rapid-fire buying. The prompt then appears even below your set threshold as a safety check.
Can kids disable it?
On a regular 13+ account, yes — but combine it with an Account PIN and they can’t change settings without that PIN. For under-13 accounts, use Account Restrictions instead (stricter, parent-controlled).
Does Purchase Verification work for subscriptions?
It applies to Robux purchases. Platform-level subscriptions (Premium, Private Servers) go through platform billing (Apple, Google, Microsoft, direct credit card) and are subject to that platform’s auth rules, not Roblox’s Purchase Verification.
