Prestige K/DA Akali (2022)

First time I saw Prestige K/DA Akali (2022) drop into the shop rotation I remember thinking Riot finally figured out how to do a Prestige rerelease without it feeling cheap. The original Prestige K/DA Akali from 2018 was one of those skins that felt like a status symbol in lobby. You lock in Akali with that gold border and suddenly your team expects you to carry. Been there. This updated 2022 version keeps that energy but cleans up the rough edges from the original model.

VFX and recall on this Prestige skin

So the VFX on Prestige K/DA Akali (2022) got a noticeable refresh compared to the 2018 version. Her Q shuriken throws carry this white-gold particle trail that reads way cleaner on the Rift than the muddier original. The W shroud is where it hits hardest though. Stepping into that smoke circle and watching the gold particles swirl around Akali while you reposition for a backline dive? Clean.

Not gonna lie, the E is subtle. Shuriken flip has a slight gold trail but you barely notice it mid-teamfight when everything is chaos. Her R though. Both dashes leave these sharp golden streaks and the execution damage on R2 has a satisfying burst effect. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last season in Diamond and the ult VFX genuinely feel snappier even though I know thats just visual placebo.

The recall animation keeps the K/DA concert vibe. Akali does her neon spraypaint thing but in the Prestige gold palette. Short and punchy. No new voice lines on this one, voice stays default. For a Mythic tier skin that’s expected, the VFX and recall are what you’re paying for here.

K/DA line and the 2022 Prestige rereleases

K/DA as a skinline basically carried Riot’s music universe. Three waves deep at this point and the original Akali skin from that first drop is still iconic. The neon mask, the rap verse in POP/STARS. Everybody remembers. Prestige K/DA Akali (2022) released April 1, 2022 as part of Riot’s big Mythic content overhaul where they brought back older Prestige skins with updated visuals.

Pan Chengwei nailed the splash on this one. The gold and white color scheme pops against the dark background, Akali’s pose has attitude without being over the top. (Random aside: I had the original 2018 Prestige splash as my Discord banner for like two years straight and this updated version replaced it immediately.)

Could be wrong here but I think the 2022 rereleases were Riot’s way of giving newer players access to skins that felt gatekept behind the old Prestige Point system. The pricing is Special since you needed Mythic Essence to grab it during its rotation. No chromas on this skin. Zero. Just the base Prestige variant which honestly works because the gold-white palette doesnt need color options cluttering it up.

Right now Prestige K/DA Akali (2022) sits in the vault. Mythic Essence rotation means it comes back periodically but you cant just grab it whenever. Loot eligible though, so if you’re grinding Hextech chests there’s a chance.

Where this fits in Akali’s skin lineup

Akali mains are spoiled for choices at this point. K/DA ALL OUT exists, Coven Akali exists, Star Guardian exists. The competition is real. Kinda feels like Prestige K/DA Akali (2022) occupies this specific niche for people who want the flex of a rare skin without going full Legendary price on something like PROJECT. Different energy.

Been maining Akali with this skin on and off since it dropped and I keep coming back to it over the flashier options. Something about the gold VFX on her combo when you Q into passive proc, E back in, R through their whole comp. The particles dont distract. They complement. In my Diamond games specifically around late season 12, I saw maybe 5 other people running this skin total. Rare enough to feel special.

For one-tricks who already own base K/DA and want the prestige upgrade, this is the version to chase. The 2022 model updates make the original 2018 Prestige look dated in comparison. Sharper textures, better VFX clarity, cleaner splash. Worth it.

The honest take

Prestige K/DA Akali (2022) earns its Mythic status. Not the flashiest Akali skin in the catalog but it carries a weight that the standard Epic skins dont match. The gold palette is tasteful instead of gaudy. The VFX refresh from the 2018 original was needed and Riot delivered. Fair warning, if you’re not an Akali player this probably isnt the skin that converts you. But for mains who want something exclusive in their collection and missed the original grind back in 2018? Top pick for Akali mains who value rarity. Spammed this in ranked last March around 1 AM on a Tuesday and it just felt right. The K/DA fantasy plus the prestige treatment. Hard to beat that combo on the Rift.
