HEARTSTEEL Aphelios

Not gonna lie, when Riot dropped the HEARTSTEEL skinline I wasnt expecting Aphelios to fit the boy band vibe this well. The Weapon of the Faithful going full idol mode sounds cursed on paper. But it works. Played my first game with it around 3 AM the night it released and something about the aesthetic just clicked in a way I didn’t expect from a champ who usually looks like he’s attending his own funeral.

What the skin actually changes

So HEARTSTEEL Aphelios gives him this sleek streetwear look with teal and pink highlights. The outfit reads like a K-pop stage costume, fitted jacket, styled hair, the whole package. New VFX across his weapons. Each gun’s particles got touched up with the HEARTSTEEL color palette, these neon-tinged effects that pop hard on Summoner’s Rift especially at night. Severum’s Q heal circle has this clean glow to it. Gravitum procs feel snappier visually even though nothing changed mechanically.

Crescendum turrets got a visual refresh too. Small detail but when you’re kiting in a teamfight and dropping sentries, they read better against the ground texture. The recall animation sells the idol fantasy hard. Aphelios does this performance sequence that fits the HEARTSTEEL theme. Solid stuff.

Voice lines stay base though. No new VO which is standard for a 1350 RP Epic tier skin. Kinda feels like they could have at least added a voice filter to lean into the music theme more, but I get it, Aphelios barely talks anyway. His sister Alune does the heavy lifting vocally and she sounds the same here. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack sounds have a slightly different punch to them compared to base. Might be placebo from the visual changes.

The HEARTSTEEL line and release context

HEARTSTEEL Aphelios dropped November 8, 2023. Late season 13. The HEARTSTEEL skinline was Riot’s second music group push after K/DA and True Damage, and honestly the roster choices were interesting. Sett, Kayn, Yone, Ezreal, K’Sante, and Aphelios. Heavy on the pretty boy champions which makes sense for the concept.

Splash art credit goes to Bo ‘chenbowow’ Chen, Julia Yurtsev, and Jennifer Wuestling. They cooked on this one. The composition has Aphelios looking moody with stage lighting behind him, very on brand for both the champ and the skinline. (Random aside: this splash would make a decent album cover unironically.)

9 chromas total if you want variety. Tanzanite is my pick, the deep purple works perfectly with Aphelios’s brooding energy and it contrasts well against the Rift. Rockstar chroma goes for this pastel pink and ice blue split that reads almost like a different skin entirely. Ruby exists but its just red, nothing special there. Shop has it at 1350 RP, permanent availability.

Worth the 1350 RP?

Real verdict: HEARTSTEEL Aphelios is a good Epic skin that doesn’t quite reach the heights of Spirit Blossom Aphelios but sits comfortably above Nightbringer in my ranking. Been running this in Diamond for maybe 40 games across two patches and the VFX clarity is genuinely nice. When you’re managing five weapons in a late-game teamfight, having distinct particle colors per gun matters more than people think.

The skin doesnt reinvent Aphelios. It’s a thematic costume change with solid VFX work and a fun recall. For ADC mains who one-trick him, 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. If you only play Aphelios occasionally in bot lane, maybe wait for a sale or check if you prefer Spirit Blossom first. That one edges it out for me personally but HEARTSTEEL is the better pick if you’re into the music universe Riot keeps building. Seen maybe 5 of these in my ranked games all season, so you wont be running into yourself every other lobby either. Top pick for Aphelios mains who want something fresh without going full anime.
