Eclipse Skins

Eclipse is one of those skinlines where Riot clearly had a vision and actually followed through. Solar versus Lunar, light clashing with dark, celestial knights picking sides in some cosmic war. Not gonna lie, when Solar Eclipse Leona dropped back in 2018 I was skeptical about the whole concept. Another thematic duality? But then I saw the in-game models and the VFX work and it clicked. This line earns its spot. The aesthetic hits harder than most of what Riot puts out, and four years later with 8 skins total, Eclipse still feels like a premium collection that didnt overstay its welcome.

What Makes Eclipse Stand Out on the Rift

The visual identity here is tight. Solar skins lean into golds, whites, burning orange particles. Lunar goes deep purple, silver, cold blue tones. Every skin in the line shares this celestial knight armor silhouette with ornate detailing that looks like it belongs in a cathedral window. The splashes especially. Riot went heavy on the religious iconography, halos and divine poses and all that.

Might be overthinking it but I think what separates Eclipse from similar "light vs dark" concepts (looking at you, Nightbringer and Dawnbringer) is the restraint. Nightbringer/Dawnbringer goes full anime chaos energy. Eclipse keeps things grounded in this pseudo-medieval divine warrior space. The color palettes dont bleed into neon territory. Even the ability VFX stay within the celestial theme without going overboard on particle density.

The shared elements across all 8 skins: sun and moon motifs in the ability particles, that specific metallic armor texture, wings or wing-like elements on recalls, and a consistent splash art direction that feels like oil paintings. Whoever art directed this line knew exactly what they wanted. (Random aside: the Eclipse splash arts are genuinely some of the best wallpaper material in the entire game.)

One thing I noticed after spamming Eclipse skins in ranked for a couple weeks straight. The readability is solid. Some skinlines sacrifice gameplay clarity for aesthetics but Eclipse abilities read clean against the Rift. You can tell what's a Q and what's an ult even in a messy teamfight at dragon pit around 25 minutes in. That matters more than people think when you're climbing.

Best Eclipse Skins Worth Your RP

Solar Eclipse Leona. Full stop. This is the skin that defined the entire line and it's still the best one years later. Legendary tier, 1820 RP, and it earns every point. New VO that fits the divine warrior fantasy perfectly. Her Q slam has this golden burst that feels heavier than base Leona. The W shield animation with the solar ring expanding outward? Clean. Been playing Leona support in Diamond since season 10 and this skin hasn't left my rotation once.

Lunar Eclipse Leona is the mirror pick and honestly its almost as good. Same Legendary treatment, same 1820 RP, but the purple and silver palette gives her a completely different vibe. Colder. More menacing. I tend to lock in Lunar when I'm feeling the engage-heavy comp and Solar when we need peel, which makes zero logical sense but whatever. Could be wrong here but I think Lunar's recall animation edges out Solar's by a small margin.

Solar Eclipse Sivir surprised me. Another Legendary at 1820 RP and I wasnt expecting Sivir to carry Eclipse energy this well. The boomerang VFX with the solar trail is satisfying to watch, and the new voice lines give Sivir actual personality beyond "battle mistress" generic fantasy. Her ult activation with the golden wings spreading? Top tier. Played maybe 40 games of Sivir ADC with this skin last season and the auto attack animations alone justified the price.

Prestige Lunar Eclipse Senna sits in the Mythic tier and it's a flex pick for sure. The white and gold Prestige treatment on the Lunar base works better than most Prestige skins. Senna mains I know swear by this one over every other Senna skin in the catalog. Hard to get though since it's a Mythic.

Sun-Eater Kayle rounds out my top picks. Epic tier at 1350 RP so way more accessible. The evolved form wings with the solar energy flowing through them look incredible in late-game teamfights. Kayle scaling into a divine solar entity at level 16 just makes thematic sense here.

The Champion Roster and Who Fits

Six champions in Eclipse across 8 skins. Leona gets two (Solar and Lunar, both Legendary), Senna gets two (base Lunar Eclipse and Prestige), and Kayle, Sivir, Sejuani, and Aatrox each get one. Not a huge roster but honestly? Quality over quantity works here.

Leona is the obvious perfect fit. Champion whose entire identity revolves around the sun and celestial power getting a Solar AND Lunar skin? Thats the most natural pairing in the game. Riot would've been insane not to put her here first.

Kinda feels like Aatrox was a strong addition. Lunar Eclipse Aatrox captures this fallen divine warrior energy that matches his lore about being a corrupted god-weapon. The dark celestial armor on his massive frame reads well. His Q slam zones with the lunar particles look threatening in lane, which is half the battle with Aatrox honestly. You want opponents to respect the spacing.

Sejuani in the Solar Eclipse variant works thematically but I'll be real, it's the one that feels most like "we needed another champion" rather than a natural fit. Sejuani on a celestial boar is cool in concept. In practice the skin is fine, solid Epic tier work, but she doesn't scream Eclipse the way Leona or Aatrox do. Maybe just my experience but I've seen maybe 5 Solar Eclipse Sejuanis in my games total since it dropped.

Who should Riot add next? Diana. Obviously Diana. The fact that Diana isn't in Eclipse yet is genuinely baffling. Champion of the moon, Leona's literal cosmic rival, and she's not in the moon-themed half of Eclipse? Been saying this since 2019. Pantheon would also fit perfectly with the divine warrior angle, and Morgana could carry a Lunar Eclipse variant hard. (Sidebar: if Riot ever does an Eclipse event pass I'm throwing money at it day one.)

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

This is where Eclipse gets interesting. The line is top-heavy. Three Legendaries at 1820 RP each. One Mythic Prestige. Four Epics at 1350 RP. No Standard tier skins at all. The cheapest you're getting into Eclipse is 1350 RP and realistically the skins people actually want are the 1820 ones.

The Legendaries carry the line. Not gonna lie. Solar Eclipse Leona, Lunar Eclipse Leona, and Solar Eclipse Sivir are the reason Eclipse has the reputation it does. The Epics are solid but they don't have new VO, which matters when the Legendaries set the bar that high. Real talk though, 1350 RP for Sun-Eater Kayle or Lunar Eclipse Aatrox is still a good deal. The VFX work on those Epics punches above its weight class.

Price range sits at 1350-1820 RP for purchasable skins, with Prestige Lunar Eclipse Senna being the outlier you need Mythic Essence or crafting luck for. For a skinline where every entry is at least Epic tier, the floor quality is high. No 750 RP texture swaps dragging the average down. Riot treated Eclipse like a premium brand and it shows.

Fair warning: if you're trying to collect the whole set you're looking at serious RP investment. Three Legendaries alone is 5460 RP before the Epics. Plus a Mythic that might cost you months of Essence saving. This isnt a cheap collection to complete. Worth it for Leona or Sivir one-tricks specifically, but casual buyers should just grab their main's skin and call it done.

Compared to other similarly sized lines, Eclipse punches way above. Eight skins that all feel cohesive. No filler entries. The worst Eclipse skin is still a strong Epic. That consistency across the roster is rare. Most skinlines this size have at least two forgettable entries. Eclipse doesn't.

Frequently Asked Questions About Eclipse Skins

How many Eclipse skins are there?

8 Eclipse skins total as of 2024. The line covers six champions with Leona and Senna each getting two variants. Not a massive roster but the quality-to-quantity ratio is probably the best of any skinline this size. Every single entry is at least Epic tier which keeps the floor high.

What is the best Eclipse skin?

Solar Eclipse Leona. Been the consensus pick since 2018 and nothing in the line has topped it. Legendary tier with full new VO, transformed ability VFX, and one of the cleanest engage support skins in the game. Lunar Eclipse Leona is a close second if you prefer the darker aesthetic. Both are S-tier Leona skins honestly.

Which champions have Eclipse skins?

Kayle, Sivir, Leona, Sejuani, Senna, and Aatrox. Six champions total. Leona has both Solar and Lunar variants, Senna has Lunar Eclipse plus the Prestige version. The roster skews toward fighters and supports which fits the divine warrior theme well.

Does Eclipse have Legendary skins?

Three Legendaries at 1820 RP each. Solar Eclipse Leona, Lunar Eclipse Leona, and Solar Eclipse Sivir. All three have new voice lines, unique recall animations, and completely reworked ability VFX. The Legendary density here is wild for a line this small. They're the reason Eclipse has such a strong reputation.

When did the Eclipse skinline release?

First Eclipse skins dropped in 2018 with Solar and Lunar Eclipse Leona. The line expanded through 2022 adding Sivir, Senna, Kayle, Sejuani, and Aatrox over multiple patches. Not a single-event dump like some lines, Riot rolled Eclipse out gradually across four years which I think helped each release feel meaningful.

Are Eclipse skins worth buying?

If your main is in the roster then yes, absolutely. The Legendaries especially deliver premium quality for 1820 RP. Even the 1350 Epics like Sun-Eater Kayle punch above their price point. Could be wrong but I think Eclipse has the best average quality of any mid-size skinline in League. Only skip if you dont play any of the six champions.

Do Eclipse skins have chromas?

Some of the Epic tier Eclipse skins have chromas available. The Legendaries typically don't get chromas which is standard for that tier. Check each individual skin page for chroma availability and color options. The base Eclipse color schemes are already strong enough that chromas feel more like bonus variety than necessity.

Will Riot make more Eclipse skins?

No official confirmation but the line hasnt been retired. Eclipse last got new entries in 2022. Diana and Pantheon are the most requested additions by the community and both fit the theme naturally. I think Riot will revisit Eclipse eventually, the brand recognition is too strong to abandon. Just a matter of when not if.
