Crime City Nightmare Skins

All 5 skins in the Crime City Nightmare skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Crime City Nightmare skin in League of Legends.

Crime City Nightmare is one of those skinlines where Riot took an existing concept and cranked it somewhere genuinely unsettling. The original Crime City skins were cool, mobster vibes and pinstripes, but Nightmare flipped it into Lovecraftian horror territory. Eldritch gangsters. Tentacles under suits. Not gonna lie, when these dropped in 2021 I wasnt sure how to feel about it. The community voted for this theme back in that dev poll and honestly they picked right. Five skins, all Epic, all 1350 RP, and every single one hits a different flavor of cosmic mob horror. Been running these in ranked since patch 11.15 and the aesthetic still holds up.

What Makes Crime City Nightmare Stand Out

The visual identity here is razor sharp. Every Crime City Nightmare skin shares this dark noir palette - deep purples, sickly greens, glowing eldritch energy pulsing through pinstripe suits and fedoras. Think 1920s gangster crossed with something from beyond the Rift. The shared VFX language ties it together: tentacle-like particles on abilities, eyes that glow through shadow, and this constant sense that something wrong is lurking under the surface of every animation.

Kinda feels like Riot's art team watched too much Lovecraft and Boardwalk Empire in the same week. The splash arts across all five skins maintain this consistent vibe of dimly lit backrooms and supernatural deals gone bad. Color coherence is tight. You put all five splashes side by side and they read as one narrative, which is more than I can say for a lot of skinlines with twice the roster.

Compared to the original Crime City line, Nightmare is a massive step up. Old Crime City was literally just "champion in a suit." Fine for 2014 standards but forgettable. Crime City Nightmare understood the assignment - take the mob aesthetic and inject genuine menace into it. The closest comparison might be Coven in terms of dark fantasy execution, but where Coven leans gothic witchcraft, Nightmare goes full eldritch conspiracy. Different lanes entirely.

(Random aside: the Crime City Nightmare vote was one of those rare moments where community input actually produced a banger result. Usually those polls give us something safe.)

Sound design deserves a mention too. The abilities across these skins have this wet, organic quality to them. Not quite Void, not quite Shadow Isles. Something in between that just sounds wrong in the best way. Playing against a Crime City Nightmare Shaco at 1 AM on a Tuesday is genuinely unsettling and I mean that as a compliment.

Best Crime City Nightmare Skins

Not sure if it's just me but Crime City Nightmare Twisted Fate is the standout of the entire line. Full stop. His kit already has that card shark gambler identity and Nightmare amplifies it into something supernatural. The Pick a Card VFX with those eldritch symbols replacing the normal colors? Clean. His W cycling through corrupted cards feels like you're dealing from a cursed deck. Been spamming this in Diamond and the auto attack animations alone justify 1350 RP. TF mains know.

Second pick goes to Shaco. Might be overthinking it but I think Shaco is the champion who fits "nightmare gangster" the most naturally. Hes already a psychotic clown - put him in a pinstripe suit with tentacles and it just works. The boxes have this incredible creepy factor, and the clone VFX with the shadowy tendrils make it harder to tell which is real in teamfights. Played against one in a ranked game around 3 AM last season and legitimately jumped when a box popped in river.

Akali takes third. The shroud VFX is where this skin earns its keep. That W turning into a pool of eldritch darkness with tentacles reaching out? Top tier. Her Q shuriken replaced with some kind of corrupted energy projectile reads well in lane. Not the flashiest Akali skin in a vacuum but the thematic consistency is hard to beat. One-tricks who want something darker than the usual Akali catalog should lock this in.

Darius is solid. The axe becoming this living nightmare weapon with organic growths on it looks sick in the splash and translates well in-game. His ult dunk has real weight to it with the Nightmare VFX. Could be wrong here but I think this is a top five Darius skin and he's got a stacked wardrobe.

Zyra rounds out the set and honestly its a strong closer. Her plants becoming eldritch horrors growing from dark portals fits perfectly. The ultimate with tentacle-like vines erupting from the ground is chef's kiss. Zyra mains don't get enough love from Riot on the skin front so this one hitting as hard as it does matters. Seen maybe a dozen Zyra Nightmare players all year in my games but every one of them was clearly a dedicated main.

The Crime City Nightmare Roster

Five champions total. Compact. Twisted Fate as the face of the line makes perfect sense, he's literally a card shark and con artist in base lore. The mob boss fantasy was built for him. Shaco fits the "unhinged enforcer" archetype so naturally it's almost lazy, but in a good way. No forced theming there.

Akali as the assassin of the crew works thematically. Ninja turned supernatural hitwoman. The kit translates well to the aesthetic. Darius is your heavy muscle, the bruiser who walks into the room and everyone shuts up. His Noxus general persona maps onto mob enforcer without much stretching.

Zyra is the most creative pick. Could be coping but I think she represents the eldritch horror element more than anyone else in the line. Her plants literally become the nightmare given form. She's the supernatural power behind the criminal empire. Smart character choice from the design team.

Real talk though, five is a small roster. (Sidebar: Riot voting poll said they'd expand it but here we are years later with nothing.) Champions who should get Crime City Nightmare skins: Jhin is the obvious one, theatrical criminal with a flair for the dramatic. Urgot fits the body horror angle. Tahm Kench as a deal-making demon in a suit would be incredible. Maybe Swain as the actual boss of the whole operation. The line has room to grow and I think Riot left money on the table by not expanding it during season 12 or 13.

Tier and Price Breakdown

Every Crime City Nightmare skin sits at Epic tier. All five cost 1350 RP. No Legendaries, no Prestige editions, no variance. Straight across the board. This is actually refreshing. You know exactly what you're getting with each one: new model, new VFX, new SFX, new recall animation, base voice lines.

Fair warning, the lack of a Legendary means no new voiceover for any of them. TF with a gravelly noir monologue would have been incredible but we got standard VO instead. For 1350 each though the visual package delivers. These are strong Epics. Not every skinline needs a Legendary anchor to work and Crime City Nightmare proves it.

Price-wise you're looking at 6750 RP for the full set if you want all five. That's roughly $50 depending on your RP bundle. Took the plunge on release day back in August 2021, bought the TF and Shaco skins first, then grabbed the rest over the next two patches when I couldn't stop thinking about the Zyra one. Worth it if you play even two of the five champions. If you only main one of these champs, 1350 feels fair for what any individual skin delivers.

Crime City Nightmare FAQ

How many Crime City Nightmare skins are there?

There's 5 Crime City Nightmare skins total. Twisted Fate, Shaco, Akali, Darius, and Zyra. All dropped in 2021 during patch 11.15 and 11.17. Compact roster but every skin in the line pulls its weight. No filler picks, which is rare for Riot skinlines honestly. Could always use more but the quality-to-quantity ratio is solid here.

What is the best Crime City Nightmare skin?

Crime City Nightmare Twisted Fate. Not even close in my opinion. The card VFX, the thematic fit with his gambler lore, the splash art - everything clicks. Shaco is a strong second pick if you play him. Been running TF Nightmare as my default since release and haven't swapped off once. The Pick a Card cycling alone makes it worth locking in.

Which champions have Crime City Nightmare skins?

Twisted Fate, Shaco, Akali, Darius, and Zyra. Five champions total. TF is basically the poster child of the line, Shaco fits the creepy enforcer role, Akali is the assassin, Darius is the muscle, and Zyra represents the eldritch horror behind the operation. Solid picks across the board, no awkward fits.

Does Crime City Nightmare have Legendary skins?

Nope. All five Crime City Nightmare skins are Epic tier at 1350 RP each. No Legendaries, no Ultimate, no Prestige. Means no new voice lines for any of them which is a shame because TF with noir dialogue would have been incredible. The Epic execution is strong enough that it doesnt feel like a dealbreaker though. Solid VFX across the board.

When did the Crime City Nightmare skinline release?

Crime City Nightmare released in 2021, split across patches 11.15 and 11.17. Summer 2021 specifically, around August. The line came from that community vote Riot ran where players chose between Crime City Nightmare, Debonair 2.0, and a third option I dont remember. Community picked well on this one, the Lovecraftian mob theme delivered hard.

Are Crime City Nightmare skins worth buying?

If you main any of the five champions, yes. 1350 RP each is standard Epic pricing and every skin in the line justifies it with strong VFX and model work. TF and Shaco are the standouts. Zyra is underrated. Even Darius and Akali hold up well against their other skin options. Not gonna lie, I think this is one of the better bang-for-buck skinlines Riot has put out.

Do Crime City Nightmare skins have chromas?

Most of them do. The Crime City Nightmare skins launched with chroma sets for the champions that got them. If you want to push the color palette beyond the default purple-green-noir look, chromas give you options. I personally stick with the base colorway because the default palette is so cohesive, but some of the alternate chromas go in a completely different direction worth checking out.

Will Riot make more Crime City Nightmare skins?

Maybe just my experience but the community has been asking for more since 2021 and nothing so far. The line hasn't gotten a single addition in years. Riot tends to revisit popular skinlines eventually though, look at Coven getting multiple waves. Jhin, Tahm Kench, and Swain are the most requested additions I've seen on Reddit. Hoping season 15 or beyond brings a second wave but not holding my breath.
