Phantom Dancer is a 2,650 gold crit item in League of Legends built for marksmen who need to reposition while attacking: 65% Attack Speed, 25% Critical Strike Chance and 10% Move Speed in patch 26.21. Its Spectral Waltz passive makes you Ghosted, so you walk through other units, and the stats alone are worth well over the price at 127% gold efficiency.

What does Spectral Waltz do?

It makes you Ghosted. That means you ignore unit collision: minions, monsters and champions no longer block your path, so you can walk straight through a minion wave or slip past a body in a narrow jungle corridor.

Sounds small. It isn’t. Marksmen lose a surprising number of fights because a minion was standing in the one spot they needed to step into (yes, it happens even to experienced players), and Ghosted removes that problem entirely. Combined with the percent Move Speed, it lets you kite back and forth between attacks with fewer missteps.

The same goes for fights around objectives (dragon and Baron pits get crowded fast), where a tank standing in the entrance or a pile of jungle monsters would normally force you to path around them and lose a second or two of damage.

Is Phantom Dancer gold efficient?

Very. All three stats have basic-item prices, and together they’re worth 3,375 gold against a 2,650 gold cost, which is 127%.

The breakdown: 65% Attack Speed at 25 gold per percent is 1,625 gold, 25% crit chance at 40 gold per percent is 1,000, and 10% Move Speed at 75 gold per percent is 750. That’s a 725 gold surplus before you count the passive. To be fair, the catch is what’s missing: there’s no Attack Damage at all, so the item makes your attacks faster and more likely to crit without making each hit bigger.

How do you build it?

Two Daggers (250 gold each) and a Zeal (1,200 gold), finished with 950 gold. Zeal first, honestly, since it already carries all three stat types; the Daggers are cheap filler when a back leaves you with a few hundred gold.

No item builds from it.

How has the item changed since 2013?

It’s been reworked more than once. Riot’s data has it from 2013, and patch 14.10 gave it roughly its current shape: Attack Damage removed, Attack Speed doubled from 30% to 60%, crit up to 25%. Since then:

  • Patch 14.19: cost 2,600 → 2,650 gold, Move Speed 12% → 8%.
  • Patch 25.14: Attack Speed 60% → 65%, Move Speed 8% → 10%.

A small nerf, then a buff about a year later that restored some of the speed. The item has stayed a high-efficiency stat stick through every version since 14.10. The LoL items database logs the same detail for every other crit item, which helps when you want to compare.

Who should build Phantom Dancer?

Crit marksmen who rely on Attack Speed and positioning, especially against teams with divers or assassins who punish a bad step. It usually comes as a second or third item next to a damage item.

Who should skip it? Champions who need raw Attack Damage per hit, and on-hit builds that don’t want crit. Thing is, the lack of AD means it shouldn’t be your first crit item for most marksmen; pair it with Infinity Edge or another damage piece first. Want to check whether your marksman leans on Attack Speed? The LoL champion guides list builds by champion, and for a kiting carry who keeps getting body-blocked, Phantom Dancer fixes that on day one.
