Gold efficiency
| Stat | Amount | Gold per point | Gold value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attack Damage | 30 | 35 g | 1050 g |
| Health | 550 | 2.67 g | 1467 g |
| Total stat value | 2517 g |
Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 2517 ÷ 3300 = 76%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted.

Overlord’s Bloodmail is a 3,300 gold legendary item in League of Legends for fighters who want Health to turn into damage: 30 Attack Damage and 550 Health in patch 26.21, plus two passives. Tyranny converts 2.5% of your bonus Health into Attack Damage, and Retribution raises your Attack Damage by up to 12% as your Health drops.
How do Tyranny and Retribution work together?
Tyranny is the steady part. Every point of bonus Health you own, from this item or any other, feeds a small amount of Attack Damage, so a bruiser who stacks two or three Health items ends up with a noticeably bigger number on the stat sheet than the raw 30 AD suggests.
Retribution is the comeback part. The lower your Health, the more your Attack Damage climbs, up to 12% at the bottom of the bar. Put simply, the item wants you to be big and bleeding at the same time, which is exactly the state a juggernaut is in halfway through a long duel.
Does it reward bad trades? Sort of. You hit hardest when you’re closest to dying, so the passive pays off most for champions who have their own healing or shields to survive that window (and punishes the ones who don’t).
Is Overlord’s Bloodmail worth the gold?
Not on stats alone. The two listed stats are worth 2,517 gold against a 3,300 gold price, which puts the gold efficiency at 76%.
The breakdown uses basic items of the same patch: 30 Attack Damage at 35 gold per point is 1,050 gold, and 550 Health at 2.67 gold per point comes to 1,467. That leaves a 783 gold hole that the two passives have to fill. Thing is, they can. Tyranny alone turns the item’s own Health into extra AD before you count anything else you’ve bought, and Retribution adds a chunk more in every fight that goes below half Health, so on a champion built around Health the real value lands well above the paper number.
What does the build path look like?
Two copies of Tunneler at 1,150 gold each, then 1,000 gold to combine. That’s an unusual recipe (most legendaries mix two or three different components), and it makes the item easy to build across two backs, since each Tunneler already gives both Attack Damage and Health.
It builds into nothing. Once the two Tunnelers merge, the slot is finished.
How has the item changed over the patches?
This version is young. Riot’s data first lists it in patch 14.10, the big durability and fighter item update, and the name had belonged earlier to the tank item that was reworked into Heartsteel in patch 12.22. Since 14.10 there have been two changes worth knowing:
- Patch 14.19: Attack Damage 40 → 30, Health 500 → 550.
- Patch 25.08: effect text changed, which covers the current wording of Tyranny and Retribution.
The shift in 14.19 moved value out of flat AD and into Health, which, funny enough, made Tyranny more important to the item, not less. The full record sits in the LoL items database next to every other fighter item.
Who should buy Overlord’s Bloodmail?
Juggernauts and bruisers who already plan to stack Health and who expect to fight at low Health rather than burst and leave. Champions with built-in healing get a double benefit, because they live long enough for Retribution to matter and then heal back up with a bigger Attack Damage number than before.
Who shouldn’t? Assassins and crit marksmen, for a start, since they neither stack Health nor want to be nearly dead in a fight. For a fighter who weaves abilities between attacks, Trinity Force usually does more in the same slot, and if you’re unsure which lane suits a Health-stacking fighter, our guide to LoL roles covers that. Real talk, Overlord’s Bloodmail is a second or third item on most champions, bought once the first Health item is already on the stat sheet for Tyranny to work with.
