Jeff the Land Shark in Marvel Rivals: Abilities, Tips, Team-Ups and Matchups

Jeff the Land Shark is a Strategist (healer) in Marvel Rivals with 250 health and 6 m/s movement speed. He heals with a rapid-fire water stream (140 healing per second), dives underground with Hide and Seek to escape, and his ultimate, It’s Jeff!, swallows every enemy and ally in a 10 m radius before spitting them out. All numbers below come from the official hero page as of October 2026.

Who is Jeff the Land Shark in Marvel Rivals?
Jeff is the smallest hero in the game and one of the most slippery. NetEase’s official bio describes him as a baby land shark captured for the Collector’s Theme Park, who broke free when the Timestream Entanglement scrambled reality. In practice he plays as a mobile, self-sufficient healer: low health, a tiny hitbox, and an escape button that makes him Unstoppable.
He has been in the roster since the game launched on December 6, 2024.
Jeff the Land Shark abilities, with official numbers
The table lists every ability in Jeff’s base kit. Keep in mind that NetEase balances heroes every season, so a number can shift by the time you read this; the official hero page is the place to double-check.
| Ability | Key | What it does | Key numbers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Joyful Splash | Left Click | Rapid-fire healing stream that also damages enemies | 140 healing/s, 70 damage/s, 20 rounds/s, 100 ammo; damage falloff from 15 m to 60% at 30 m |
| Aqua Burst | Right Click | Water sphere that bursts on impact; direct hits launch enemies up | 30 projectile + 45 splash damage, 3 m radius, 3 charges (3 s each) |
| Healing Bubble | E | Bubble that heals the ally who grabs it and launches nearby enemies | 30 healing/s, +15% Healing Boost, +60% Movement Boost for 4 s; 3 charges (6 s each); bubble lasts 180 s |
| Hide and Seek | Shift | Dive with only the fin showing: Unstoppable, smaller hitbox, wall-crawl, self-heal | +60% Movement Boost, 35 healing/s, 120 energy (drains 20/s, refills 15/s) |
| Oblivious Cuteness | Passive | Takes less damage from critical hits | 50% critical damage reduction |
| It’s Jeff! | Q (ultimate) | Swallows enemies and allies, then ejects them forward; leaves a Healing Pool | 10 m radius, 25 damage/s to enemies, 225 healing/s to allies, overflow to Bonus Health (45/s up to 150), 6 s; pool 8 m, 130 healing/s for 8 s; 4,500 energy |
Joyful Splash and Aqua Burst
Joyful Splash is a stream, not a burst, so it rewards staying on one target. At 140 healing per second it’s steady rather than huge. The damage side (70 per second) is real but falls off hard past 15 metres. Aqua Burst is the panic button for close range: a direct hit pops a diver into the air, which buys a second for your team to react.
Healing Bubble
Bubbles reward planning. Each one sits on the map for up to three minutes, so you can pre-place them on a choke point or behind cover before a fight starts. Anyone who grabs one gets a burst of healing plus a 60% speed boost for four seconds, which is great for a tank re-engaging or a squishy escaping. Enemies near the bubble get launched when it pops. Three charges, six seconds each.
Hide and Seek
This is Jeff’s survival tool and his positioning tool at once. While submerged he’s Unstoppable (no crowd control lands), moves 60% faster, heals himself for 35 per second and can crawl up walls. Energy is the limit: 120 points, draining at 20 per second, so a full dive lasts about six seconds and needs time to refill. Real talk, a dive that runs dry in the open leaves him exposed.
It’s Jeff! (ultimate)
The ultimate swallows everyone in a 10-metre radius for six seconds. Friend and foe alike. Allies inside are healed for 225 per second, with overflow turning into Bonus Health up to 150. Enemies take 25 damage per second, which won’t kill anyone on its own. What makes it deadly is the exit: Jeff spits everyone out forward, and if “forward” is off a cliff, enemies fall to their deaths. Afterwards an 8-metre Healing Pool stays for eight seconds and heals allies for 130 per second.
So when should you hold it? Honestly, often. An ultimate that pulls three allies out of an enemy Hela or Punisher ultimate saves a fight just as surely as a cliff kill wins one, and the Healing Pool afterwards tops everyone back up. The 4,500 energy cost means you’ll get it a few times per match at most, so spending it on one stray enemy near a ledge is usually a waste. Wait for a clump, or wait for danger.
How to play Jeff well
Play him as a roaming healer who stays slightly off to the side of the fight, never at the front. Why off to the side? Because with 250 health, Jeff dies fast to anyone who focuses him, and his small hitbox only helps if he’s not the closest target.
- Keep Hide and Seek for escapes. Using it to rotate between fights means it’s empty when a Spider-Man or Black Panther dives you.
- Drop Healing Bubbles before fights on the route your tank will take.
- Stream heals onto one target at a time; constant switching wastes the ramp of a beam that rewards tracking.
- For the ultimate, aim for map edges. Six seconds of swallow is also enough to save allies from an enemy ultimate, which is the less flashy but often better use.
- Your passive halves critical damage, so headshot-heavy heroes are less of a threat to you than to your other healer.
Jeff’s current team-ups
Team-ups rotate between seasons, so check the in-game hero screen for the current list. As of October 2026 the official hero page lists two team-up abilities for Jeff.
Guardian of the Deep (with Venom): Jeff shoots out healing tendrils that link to allies within 15 metres, healing them for 45 per second for five seconds, with half of any overheal converted into Bonus Health. With Venom on the team, the tendrils also deal 35 damage per second to nearby enemies. Cooldown is 20 seconds. Mr. Pool’s Interdimensional Toy Box (with Deadpool): Jeff spits out a Deadpool Plushie that taunts nearby enemies for five seconds and sprays 30 healing per second on allies within 6 metres; teamed with Deadpool, the taunt gets stronger and the plushie damages enemies too. Cooldown is 15 seconds.
Earlier seasons gave Jeff different partners. One was It’s Jeff-nado with Storm, where Storm’s ultimate merged with Jeff into a moving tornado, and there was a version where Jeff and Rocket Raccoon rode on Groot’s shoulders for damage reduction. Those may return, since NetEase has brought back team-ups before, but they aren’t on the current list.
Jeff’s weaknesses and how to counter him
Jeff’s biggest weakness is his health pool. At 250, one well-timed burst from a flanker deletes him before he can dive, so heroes who reach the backline fast (Spider-Man, Black Panther, Psylocke and similar) are natural counters. The trick is to wait until Hide and Seek is on cooldown or nearly out of energy, then commit.
Against his ultimate, positioning is the counter. Thing is, It’s Jeff! is only lethal near edges; fighting away from ledges turns a team wipe into six seconds of mild inconvenience. Hearing the voice line is also a cue to spread out, since the swallow radius is 10 metres and one Jeff can’t catch a team that isn’t clumped.
One more honest point: Jeff’s healing output is lower than the strongest burst healers. Teams that rely on him as their only Strategist can struggle against heavy damage compositions, which is why he’s usually paired with a second healer. To be fair, that’s true of most Strategists. Our best Marvel Rivals healers guide compares the options.
Is Jeff the Land Shark good for beginners?
Yes, with a caveat. His kit is simple (point the stream at allies, dive when threatened), and his escape forgives mistakes better than most healers’ kits do. The caveat is that the ultimate looks easy and isn’t: using it well means knowing every ledge on every map. If you’re still learning maps or climbing through the Marvel Rivals ranks, use the ultimate defensively first and save the cliff plays for when you know the angles. Our general tips on getting better at Marvel Rivals cover map knowledge in more detail.
For what it’s worth, Jeff the Land Shark is also fun to learn on, because a good Hide and Seek turns near-deaths into escapes.
