The uniqueness rule surprises people. Your game name can be identical to someone else’s, because the tagline makes the full Riot ID unique. Want a popular name that thousands of players already use? Pair it with a tag nobody else has.
The region tags are the one trap, and it is easy to fall into on your very first change. Taglines start as a region code by default (NA1, EUW and so on), but once you change yours, you cannot pick a region code again. Riot’s list of blocked tags includes BR, LAS, LAN, OCE, NA, EUW, EUNE, TR, RU, KR, JP, PBE, BR1, LA1, LA2, OC1 and NA1. Think twice before giving up a region tag if you like it.

Same account, same rules. Valorant uses your Riot ID too, so a change at account.riotgames.com updates your Valorant name as well. Valorant players use the account page rather than an in-game shop option. The 90-day cooldown applies across all games, so a change made for League also uses your window for Valorant.

- “Riot ID taken”: change the tagline; the game name alone can be shared.
