When is the GTA 6 release date?
November 19, 2026. Rockstar announced it on November 6, 2025. Today, October 21, 2026, it’s still the date on the official Grand Theft Auto VI page and on the Xbox store listing. The launch trailer went up on October 15, four weeks before preload opens.
Could it move again? In theory, sure. In practice, a delay this close to launch would be very unusual, because pre-orders, the physical boxes and the preload date are all locked to it. Rumors of a slip to 2027 do circulate on social media (one fake “May 25, 2027” post did the rounds), but nothing from Rockstar or Take-Two backs them up.

How many times was the GTA 6 release date delayed?
Twice. Trailer 1, released early on December 4, 2023 after a leak, gave a 2025 window. On May 2, 2025 Rockstar moved the game to May 26, 2026, and four days later it released Trailer 2. Then on November 6, 2025 came the second delay, to Thursday, November 19, 2026.
Rockstar’s statement for the second delay apologized for “adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait” and said the extra months would let the team finish the game “with the level of polish you have come to expect.” That’s the whole official reason. Everything else you’ve read about why (crunch, cut content, engine trouble) is reporting or guesswork, not something Rockstar has said.
Honestly, delays are normal for the studio. Red Dead Redemption 2 slipped twice before its October 2018 launch too.
Thing is, both of those delays came with months of warning, and this time there’s been nothing of the sort since November 2025, which is about as reassuring as a release schedule gets with a game this size.
How much does GTA 6 cost?
$79.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, per Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 announcement. Those are US prices; other regions are priced by each store, so check yours before you assume a straight conversion.
The Ultimate Edition adds what Rockstar describes as a collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and missions threaded through Jason and Lucia’s story. Is it worth $20 more? Hard to say until people have played it. We’d wait for launch week impressions, since the $20 upgrade stays available after release on the Xbox store.
What do you get for pre-ordering GTA 6?
Every pre-order, and every purchase made before November 20, 2026, includes the Vintage Vice City Pack. Per Rockstar, it contains a ’55 Vapid Stanier sedan with a garage near Ocean Beach, retro outfits and hairstyles for both Jason and Lucia, and a weapon pattern.
Digital pre-orders also come with one free month of GTA+. On Xbox, that month has to be redeemed within 180 days of the pre-order. The catch? GTA+ applies to GTA Online and the GTA+ Games Library, so the month mostly helps if you still play GTA Online or want to replay older Rockstar titles while you wait.
When does the GTA VI preload start?
Digital pre-orders can start downloading on November 12, 2026, one week before launch. Physical copies also arrive from November 12, and Take-Two says they contain a download code inside the box rather than the full game on the disc, so a physical copy still needs that download.
Put simply: clear your SSD space early.
Rockstar hasn’t published a final download size yet, and the stores don’t list one. Funny enough, that’s the question we expect to see most in the week before launch.
Is there a GTA 6 release date for PC?
Not at launch, and there’s no PC date at all. Rockstar’s page, the pre-order announcement and every store listing name only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
History suggests a wait. GTA 5 came out on consoles in September 2013 and reached PC in April 2015, about 19 months later, while Red Dead Redemption 2 took roughly a year (October 2018 to November 2019). So a PC version in 2027 or later is a reasonable guess, but it’s only a guess until Rockstar announces something.
PC-only players: November 19 isn’t your date.
Will GTA 6 be on PS4, Switch 2 or Game Pass?
No PS4 or Xbox One version has ever been listed, and none of the official pages mention Nintendo Switch 2 (unlike, say, Fortnite on Switch 2, which shipped at that console’s launch). To be fair, that’s the short answer for all three older or smaller platforms.
Game Pass is the same story. The Xbox store sells the game as a regular purchase at $79.99, and neither Microsoft nor Rockstar has announced day-one Game Pass. Rockstar’s page does say the game “plays best on PlayStation 5” and points to PlayStation-specific features (the details sit on playstation.com), though both consoles launch on the same day.
What is Grand Theft Auto VI about?
Two leads, one state. Jason and Lucia are a criminal couple in the fictional state of Leonida, centered on Vice City, Rockstar’s version of Miami. In the official synopsis, an easy score goes wrong and they end up “in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida,” forced to rely on each other to get out alive.
Take-Two calls it a single-player experience, the biggest in the series. As for GTA Online, Rockstar has not announced how the online side will work with the new game at launch, and we won’t fill that gap with leaks.
