The original Nintendo Switch became a go-to device for playing Fortnite on the go, but its successor is turning things up a notch. Thanks to the Nintendo Switch 2’s upgraded hardware, the battle royale experience now feels far closer to what you’d expect on more powerful consoles. Think smoother frame rates, sharper visuals, and some slick new features—including mouse support coming down the pipeline.

Epic Games pulled back the curtain in a recent blog post, laying out all the juicy details. First and foremost: performance. Fortnite on Switch 2 will finally run at a buttery-smooth 60fps—a major step up from the 30fps cap on the original system.

Visual fidelity is also getting a substantial boost. In docked mode, resolution climbs to 2176×1224, while handheld mode hits 1600×900. Compare that to the first Switch, which topped out at 1560×880 docked and just 1170×660 on the go (even after a 2021 patch). But that’s not all—expect increased draw distances, richer textures, better shadows, and more realistic water effects. It’s a big glow-up.

Beyond the graphics, the Switch 2 version comes with some quality-of-life perks that weren’t available before. Players can now use the Replay system and the Capture button to record gameplay moments directly. Built-in GameChat lets you stream to up to three friends, making it easier to squad up and show off your clutch plays.

And here’s where it gets interesting: after a June 7 patch, players can use one or both Joy-Con 2 controllers as a mouse—yes, a mouse—for navigating menus and playing the battle royale mode. However, don’t expect mouse support in Lego Fortnite, Fortnite Festival, or other side modes just yet.

One thing that’s still missing? Save the World. Like its predecessor, the Switch 2 version of Fortnite won’t offer this PvE mode, and there are no signs that’ll change anytime soon.

Planning to upgrade? Make sure you delete the old “Fortnite for Nintendo Switch” from your system and install the new version through the redesigned (and reportedly snappier) eShop. As a bonus, Switch 2 owners will get the exclusive Wishing Star emote just for logging in—free to claim until March 26, 2026.

All in all, this isn’t just a port—it’s a serious upgrade. If you’ve been holding out for a better Fortnite experience on Nintendo, the Switch 2 might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for.
