Fortnite Weapon Tier List: Best Guns in Chapter 7 Season 4

This Fortnite weapon tier list covers Chapter 7 Season 4, which started on August 20, 2026 and is scheduled to end on October 31, 2026. It’s our editorial assessment, not win rate statistics: we rank every gun in the current Battle Royale loot pool by its listed damage, fire rate and magazine. Right now the 8-Bit Shotgun, the Bonerattler SMG and the classic Assault Rifle are the strongest regular picks.

How we rank guns for this Fortnite tier list
Epic doesn’t publish weapon stats. The numbers below come from the Fortnite Wiki’s Season 4 loot pool and its weapon pages, which list damage, fire rate and the update each stat dates from. We checked them on October 21, 2026, after the Fortnitemares changes.
In practice, three things decide the tier. Damage per second at the best rarity you’re likely to find, damage per hit (how fast a fight ends), and how forgiving the gun is when you miss. Availability matters too, since a Mythic you see once a match can’t be your plan.

Best shotguns in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4
The 8-Bit Shotgun is the shotgun to beat. It’s fully automatic, holds 10 shells and does 108 damage per body shot at Legendary, with a crit cap of 145. Its weakness is range: damage starts falling at 6 meters and keeps dropping until it stops at 26.
Pump fans, relax: it’s still the burst king. A Legendary Pump does 119 body damage and up to 205 on a headshot, thanks to its 2x multiplier, but it fires 0.7 times per second and reloads slowly. Miss once and you’ll feel it. The Sweeper sits between them with a 1.69 fire rate and 8 shells. The Wood Stake Shotgun hits hard (101 per shot) yet carries just 4 shells and does only 25 structure damage, so it’s poor at breaking builds.
Best assault rifles and SMGs this season
Assault rifles first.
The plain AR is S tier for a boring reason: it’s reliable. 36 damage at 5.5 shots per second gives 198 DPS at Legendary, and it works at every range. The Heavy Assault Rifle hits harder per bullet but fires at 3.75, which drops its damage per second well below the regular AR.
For close range, the Bonerattler SMG leads the table at 212 DPS (Legendary), with 34 rounds per magazine. Rebecca’s Guns, added on September 17, work as both an SMG and a rifle; the wiki measures the SMG mode’s real damage per second at roughly 167 to 220 depending on rarity. Honestly, either one paired with the 8-Bit Shotgun covers almost every close fight.
Mythics and special weapons on the Fortnite tier list
Thing is, Midas’ Masterpiece is the most dangerous gun in the season if you get it. It’s a single-shot golden pistol with 125 damage and a 2.5x headshot multiplier, so a headshot does 312.5, more than a full shield and health bar. It carries only 7 reserve shots, though.
The Kingdom Key is a melee item with a 65 damage magical attack on a 16 second recharge (70 at Mythic), and the Mega Buster charges from 48 to 144 damage. Fun to use, sure. Reliable? Less so than an AR. Dual Fiend Hunters, added for Fortnitemares on October 1, are the sleeper pick: 167.7 DPS at Legendary from a crossbow pair is more than the Heavy AR manages.
What changed in the loot pool this season?
Quite a lot, actually.
Fortnitemares on October 1, 2026 vaulted the Ranger Assault Rifle and the Drum Gun, and added the Heavy Assault Rifle, Wood Stake Shotgun, Bonerattler SMG and Dual Fiend Hunters. The Infantry Rifle, Light Machine Gun and Pumpkin Launcher came in the same day and were vaulted again on October 15. Several weapons also got stat hotfixes, which is why the wiki lists different “current stats since” dates.
How to build a loadout from this tier list of Fortnite weapons
A simple, strong setup is one shotgun, one AR and one SMG, plus heals and mobility. Put simply: 8-Bit Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Bonerattler SMG. Swap the 8-Bit for a Pump if your aim is good and you like ending fights in one shot.
