SSW Thresh

First time I saw SSW Thresh load into a game I thought it looked clean in a subtle way. Not flashy, not trying too hard. Just a solid team skin for a champion who already has one of the best base designs in the game. Samsung White swept Worlds in 2014 and Thresh was a huge part of that run, so it makes sense Mata got this one made.

What SSW Thresh actually brings to the table

Alright so lets be real here. This is a 975 RP Standard tier skin and it shows. Thresh gets the Samsung White jersey treatment with white and blue color tones replacing his usual green spectral look. The lantern gets a slight redesign, the hook chain keeps its base feel. No new VFX on Q, W, E, or R. Voice lines stay base. What you do get is a unique recall animation, which is the highlight of this skin honestly.

The recall has Thresh lifting the Summoner’s Cup, which is a nice touch for anyone who remembers that 2014 Worlds run. Been playing Thresh on and off since season 5 and I still think the recall is the main reason to use this skin over default. The model itself is clean but not dramatically different from base Thresh. White jacket over the skeletal frame, blue accents. Simple change – huge impact on the silhouette though.

Not gonna lie, in teamfights the skin reads a little flat compared to something like Dark Star or High Noon. The hook is harder to track for me personally because the color blends into certain map areas. Could be wrong here but I feel like the flay (E) animation specifically looks slightly less visible on this skin. Played maybe 40 games with it last season in Diamond and noticed it around dragon pit fights especially.

The World Champions 2014 line and where SSW Thresh fits

Released May 13, 2015. That was a solid patch cycle, late into season 5 if I remember right. Alvin Lee and Pan Chengwei handled the splash, and they captured the esports vibe without making it look like a generic jersey swap. The World Champions: 2014 skinline covers the full Samsung White roster and Thresh sits comfortably as one of the better ones in that set.

No chromas on this one. Zero. Which tracks for Worlds skins from that era, Riot wasnt doing chroma packs for esports skins back then. Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever you want. Gotta wait for the vault to rotate or get lucky with Hextech crafting. (Random aside: I actually rerolled three skin shards into this one back in like February 2024 at 1 AM and wasnt even mad about it.)

975 RP price point. For a Legacy skin with a unique recall but no new particles or VO, thats about where it should sit. Standard pricing, above-average skin for that bracket.

Should you pick up SSW Thresh?

Real verdict: if you main Thresh and care about esports history, this skin has sentimental value that carries it. Mata’s Thresh was iconic. The peel, the hooks in lane, the lantern saves during that Worlds run. This skin is a tribute to that.

But if you’re just looking for the best Thresh skin to lock in for ranked, skip this unless you already own Dark Star and High Noon. Those two have new VFX, better audio, the whole package. SSW Thresh is a collector piece. Kinda feels like wearing a vintage jersey to a pickup game. Cool factor is there, raw cosmetic value is mid.

Worth 975 RP if you main Thresh and watched that tournament. For everyone else in solo queue, there’s better options in the shop when they’re available. Seen maybe 2 of these in my games all season, which honestly makes it feel more special when you do run it. That ranked game last Thursday where my ADC pinged the skin three times in fountain, yeah, people notice it.
