Ashen Knights Skins
All 5 skins in the Ashen Knights skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Ashen Knights skin in League of Legends.
Not gonna lie, the Ashen Knights line caught me off guard when Pyke dropped first in 2022. I expected another edgy dark fantasy set that Riot pumps out twice a year, but the actual execution hit different. The grey-gold palette with those cracked stone textures and spectral flames underneath - feels like if Dark Souls had a prestige cosmetic tier. Every skin in this line is Mythic rarity, which means you're either grinding Mythic Essence or getting lucky in Hextech crafting. Five skins total, all exclusive, all carrying that same haunted knight aesthetic that works way better than it should on the Rift.

What Makes Ashen Knights Stand Apart
Kinda feels like Riot took the Ruination concept and stripped it down to something more refined. Where Ruined skins went full green-mist corruption, Ashen Knights keeps things muted. Grey stone armor cracking open to reveal golden-orange flame underneath. The shared visual DNA across all five skins is tight: fractured armor plates, spectral particle effects, and that consistent ashen color scheme that reads cleanly in teamfights.
The splash arts across this line are genuinely some of Riot's best work in the Mythic tier. Each champion looks like they belong in a cathedral made of bones. The composition choices lean heavily into dramatic lighting from below, which gives every piece that ominous vibe without being try-hard about it.
Compare this to something like Blackfrost or Dark Star. Those lines go heavy on one color (blue or purple) and sometimes the champions blur together in loading screen. Ashen Knights avoids that because the stone-and-flame motif reads differently on each body type. Pantheon's broad silhouette versus Pyke's lean frame versus Mordekaiser's massive presence - the theme adapts without losing identity. Strong design work.
VFX wise, each skin gets the Mythic treatment with custom particles. The ashen flame effects on abilities feel weighty. Not flashy in the Star Guardian sense but grounded, like the power is ancient and barely contained. Been watching these in my Diamond games and the readability is solid. You can tell its an Ashen Knight skin from across the map but it doesnt obscure ability hitboxes.
Best Ashen Knights Skins
Real talk though, ranking these is hard because they're all Mythic quality and none of them phone it in. But some champions just fit the theme more naturally than others.
Ashen Knight Pyke is the original and honestly still the benchmark. Something about Pyke's assassin fantasy wrapped in that crumbling knight armor works perfectly. The ult execute animation with the ashen flame trail? Been spamming this in Diamond since it dropped back in May 2022. The recall alone sold me on grinding the Mythic Essence. (Random aside: I set the splash as my Discord avatar for like three months straight.)
Ashen Graveknight Mordekaiser is the natural fit though. Morde is already a dead knight in heavy armor. Putting him in fractured grey-gold plate with spectral fire leaking through the cracks is almost too obvious, but obvious in the best way. His R pulling someone into the death realm with that ashen aesthetic is chef's kiss. Played maybe 40 games with this one last season and the W shield visual is particularly clean.
Ashen Conqueror Pantheon rounds out my top three. The spear and shield redesign carries the skin. Could be wrong here but I think this might be his second-best skin after Prestige Pulsefire, depending on your taste. The grand slam ult landing with ashen debris scattering is peak visual design for a diver.
Ashen Guardian Shen is solid but quieter. Shen's kit doesnt have the flashy moments that sell a skin as hard as Pyke's execute or Morde's death realm. Still looks clean in lane. The spirit blade trailing ash particles is a nice touch that Shen mains appreciate even if nobody else notices.
Ashen Slayer Sylas sits in the middle for me. The chains look great with the fire effect wrapping through them, and his ult stealing abilities while cloaked in that ashen glow reads well. Not sure if it's just me but Sylas feels slightly less natural in the knight fantasy compared to the others. He's more of a rebel, less of an armored warrior. Still a good skin though.
The Ashen Knights Champion Roster
Five champions. All melee. All aggressive. This isn't a coincidence.
Pantheon, Mordekaiser, Shen, Sylas, Pyke. The line leans hard into frontline fighters and engage champions. Every single one wants to be in your face during a teamfight. Riot clearly picked champions whose silhouettes work in heavy plate armor, which is smart design. You wont see an Ashen Knight Lux or Ashen Knight Jinx because the fantasy doesnt translate to ranged backline carries.
Pyke is the slight outlier as an assassin support, but his harpoon-and-dagger aesthetic already had that dark warrior energy. He earned his spot as the inaugural skin. Mordekaiser and Pantheon are the most natural fits - both are literally warriors in armor already. Shen works because of the guardian angle (hence "Ashen Guardian" specifically).
Might be overthinking it but I think Aatrox is the obvious next pick if Riot expands the line. Darkin warrior, massive sword, already looks like a corrupted knight in base form. Darius would work too. Maybe Yone with some creative liberties on the dual-blade knight angle. (Sidebar for top lane mains specifically: imagine Ashen Knight Kled. The lizard in matching armor. Need it.)
The line hasnt expanded since 2023 though. Five skins might be it. Riot tends to revisit popular Mythic lines but theres no guarantee. Season 12 and 13 got all five drops, then silence in season 14.
Tier and Pricing Breakdown
Here's the thing about Ashen Knights that makes it unique among skinlines: every single skin is Mythic tier. No Epics. No Legendaries. No 1350 RP shop skins. All five are Mythic Essence exclusives or Hextech crafting drops.
This means you cant just buy them. Period. You either save up 100 Mythic Essence from the rotating shop, or you get incredibly lucky rolling skin shards. For context thats roughly 25 masterwork chests worth of ME if you're buying your way there, or months of event pass grinding.
The exclusivity factor actually works in the line's favor for ranked. Seen maybe 8-10 Ashen Knight skins total in my games all of last season. When someone locks in Ashen Knight Pyke in champ select, you know they either grinded hard or got lucky. Its a flex skin in the truest sense. Not something you impulse-buy at 2 AM after a loss streak like I do with 1350 RP Epics.
No chromas exist for any Ashen Knights skin. Mythics rarely get chromas, which honestly is fine. The grey-gold palette is the whole identity. Adding a Ruby or Obsidian variant would dilute what makes the line cohesive.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Ashen Knights skins are there?
Five Ashen Knights skins exist right now. Pyke was first in 2022, then Pantheon, Mordekaiser, Shen, and Sylas through 2022-2023. All Mythic tier. No new additions since 2023, so the line might be complete unless Riot decides to revisit it in a future season.
What is the best Ashen Knights skin?
Ashen Knight Pyke gets my vote. The execute animation with ashen flames trailing the X is iconic, and the recall is top-tier. Ashen Graveknight Mordekaiser is a close second because Morde's kit naturally fits the dark knight fantasy. Both are worth grinding Mythic Essence for if you main either champion.
Which champions have Ashen Knights skins?
Pantheon, Mordekaiser, Shen, Sylas, and Pyke. All melee, all aggressive playstyles. The line clearly targets champions who fit heavy armored warrior aesthetics. Each one has a unique subtitle: Conqueror, Graveknight, Guardian, Slayer, and Knight respectively.
Does Ashen Knights have Legendary skins?
No Legendaries. Every Ashen Knights skin is Mythic tier exclusively. They come with custom VFX and recalls like you'd expect from premium skins, but no new voice lines or animations beyond what Mythic tier provides. Think of them as slightly above Epic quality with massive exclusivity factor.
When did the Ashen Knights skinline release?
Ashen Knight Pyke kicked things off in May 2022 during season 12. The line expanded through 2022 and into 2023 with four more skins. Riot dropped them as Mythic Essence shop rotations, usually one per event cycle. Last addition was 2023, nothing new since then.
Are Ashen Knights skins worth buying?
You cant buy them with RP directly, which is the catch. Worth grinding Mythic Essence for? Absolutely, if you main any of the five champions. The quality is consistent across the line and the exclusivity means you rarely see duplicates in games. Pyke and Morde mains should prioritize these over most alternatives.
Do Ashen Knights skins have chromas?
No chromas for any Ashen Knights skin. Mythic tier skins almost never get chroma variants. The grey-gold-flame palette is the defining look, and honestly adding color variants would hurt the cohesive identity. What you see is what you get with these five.
Will Riot make more Ashen Knights skins?
No official confirmation either way. The line hasnt gotten a new addition since 2023, which could mean its complete or just on pause. Riot revisits popular Mythic lines when demand is there. Community requests for Ashen Knight Aatrox and Darius pop up constantly on Reddit, so theres hope if player interest stays high.
