Academy Skins

All 6 skins in the Academy skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Academy skin in League of Legends.

Academy is one of those skinlines that flew under the radar for most people, and honestly I think thats part of its charm. Six skins, all Standard tier, all priced between 750 and 975 RP. No Legendaries, no Ultimates, no flashy event pass nonsense. Just a clean high-school anime concept slapped onto six champions who range from "perfect fit" to "wait, really?" Been playing since season 2 and I remember when these started dropping. The whole premise is simple: League champions in a Japanese school setting, uniforms and all. Not every skinline needs to reinvent the wheel.

What Makes Academy Stand Out From Other Skinlines

Not gonna lie, Academy doesn't have a massive visual signature the way something like Star Guardian or PROJECT does. There's no shared particle system. No unified recall animation tying them together. What it does have is a consistent aesthetic: school uniforms, classroom props, that slice-of-life anime energy that Riot clearly pulled from shows like Kill la Kill and My Hero Academia. The splash arts carry most of the weight here.

The color palette stays grounded. Deep navy blues, white dress shirts, red accents on ties and ribbons. It reads clean on the Rift even if the in-game models are fairly simple by today's standards. Remember these skins dropped between 2010 and 2015. The oldest one, Professor Ryze, hit the shop back when League still looked like a flash game. Could be wrong here but I think Riot was testing the waters with "real world AU" concepts before going all-in with Battle Academia years later.

Comparing Academy to Battle Academia is inevitable and a little unfair. Battle Academia got the full treatment: new VFX, voice lines for some, Legendary Ezreal, the works. Academy is the scrappy older sibling that showed up first and proved the concept worked. No new particles, no VO changes, just model swaps and texture work. But there's something about that simplicity. In ranked around Diamond 3 last season I saw more Academy Darius than Battle Academia Jayce. People gravitate toward clean skins that dont distract.

The splash arts actually hold up surprisingly well. Headmistress Fiora's splash in particular has that confident energy, Fiora with a pointer stick looking like she's about to fail your promos personally. Academy Ahri leans into the schoolgirl aesthetic without overdoing it. Professor Ryze is the weakest visually but its also the oldest by a wide margin so I give it a pass.

Best Academy Skins Worth Picking Up

Okay real talk. Six skins, all budget tier, so you're not breaking the bank on any of them. But some are clearly better than others.

Headmistress Fiora is the standout. Full stop. The model swap works perfectly for her character fantasy. Fiora already carries herself like aristocratic royalty, so putting her in a headmistress outfit with glasses and a ruler just clicks. Been running this in ranked since like season 6 and it still gets compliments in lobby. The skin reads well in lane, her rapier becomes the pointer stick, and the splash art is genuinely one of the better Standard-tier splashes in the entire game. At 750 RP? Steal.

Academy Darius is my second pick. Darius in a school uniform with his axe replaced by a sports equipment-styled weapon. Kinda feels like the jock villain from every anime ever made, which is exactly the point. The model is clean, the colors pop against Summoner's Rift, and honestly for 750 RP you're getting a skin that competes with stuff twice its price. Locked this in for maybe 40 games straight one weekend in preseason.

Academy Ahri sits comfortably at third. The fox-girl-in-a-school-uniform thing is obvious but effective. Might be overthinking it but I think this skin sells more than any other Academy skin purely on the character's popularity. It's a solid model swap. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing offensive. 975 RP feels slightly steep compared to Darius and Fiora at 750 but Ahri mains will eat it up regardless.

(Random aside: I once had a full Academy comp in ARAM with four of these skins on one team. The loading screen looked like an anime opening. Peak League experience.)

Academy Ekko deserves a mention too. Dropped in 2015, making it the newest of the bunch. Ekko's whole time-travel gimmick translates weirdly into a school setting but the model itself is clean. Backpack, hoodie, the works. The only issue is Ekko has so many better skins now that Academy gets buried in the collection.

Academy Vladimir and Professor Ryze round out the bottom. Vlad's skin is fine, serviceable, nothing more. Professor Ryze suffers from being ancient. The model looks dated next to literally anything released after 2013.

The Champion Roster and Who Fits

Six champions. Vladimir, Ryze, Ahri, Fiora, Darius, Ekko. Not a huge roster but honestly? Most of them work.

Fiora and Darius are the best thematic fits. No question. Fiora as the strict headmistress, Darius as the intimidating upperclassman who definitely got held back a year. These archetypes write themselves. I've been playing Fiora on and off since her rework and Headmistress is still in my skin rotation. Something about styling on people in lane with a pointer stick hits different at 2 AM on a Tuesday.

Ahri works because Ahri works in everything. She's the popular girl archetype, which is low-hanging fruit but effective. Ekko fits the rebellious student role well enough even if his kit doesn't scream "academia." Vlad is the moody art student I guess? Feels like a stretch. And Ryze as a professor makes sense on paper but the execution is so old it barely registers.

Who should Riot add next? Maybe just my experience but I think Lux would be an obvious pick. Class president energy. Yasuo as the transfer student who sleeps through every class. Sett as the delinquent. Zoe as the annoying underclassman. There's room to expand this line if Riot ever revisits it, though Battle Academia kind of ate Academy's lunch in 2019 and I doubt they circle back. Fair warning, this is pure copium on my part.

Tier and Price Breakdown

Everything here is Standard tier. That's it. No Epics, no Legendaries, nothing above 975 RP. The price range runs from 750 to 975, which in today's League economy is pocket change. You could buy the entire Academy collection for less than a single Ultimate skin.

The all-Standard lineup is both the line's biggest strength and weakness. Strength because accessibility. Any new player can grab these without thinking twice. Weakness because there's no flagship skin to anchor the line. Star Guardian has Legendary Ahri. PROJECT has Legendary Vayne and Yi. Academy has... Academy Ahri at 975 RP. Not exactly a headliner.

No new VFX on any of these. No new voice lines. Base VO across the board. What you're paying for is model swaps and new textures. For 750-975 RP in seasons 3 through 5 that was standard. Today it feels light but the prices reflect that. Took Academy Darius into a Diamond 2 game last week and nobody pinged the skin. It just works without drawing attention to itself, which for some players is exactly what they want when climbing.

Real talk though, if Riot ever does an Academy 2.0 with Epic-tier skins and actual VFX, that would go hard. The school AU concept proved itself with Battle Academia pulling massive sales numbers. Academy laid the groundwork even if it never got the premium treatment itself. Six budget skins from a simpler era of League. Sometimes thats enough.

Frequently Asked Questions About Academy Skins

How many Academy skins are there?

Six total. Academy Vladimir, Professor Ryze, Academy Ahri, Headmistress Fiora, Academy Darius, and Academy Ekko. All Standard tier, released between 2010 and 2015. Not a massive roster but it covers a decent spread of roles. Could be wrong here but I think Riot considers this line complete at this point.

What is the best Academy skin?

Headmistress Fiora. Not even close. The thematic fit is perfect, the splash art holds up, and the in-game model reads cleanly in lane. At 750 RP its a no-brainer for Fiora mains. Academy Darius takes second place. Been spamming both in ranked and they still feel good despite their age.

Which champions have Academy skins?

Vladimir, Ryze, Ahri, Fiora, Darius, and Ekko. Six champions total. Fiora and Darius fit the theme best in my opinion. Ahri works because she works in everything. Ekko and Vlad are solid picks. Ryze is showing his age but the professor concept makes sense for him at least.

Does Academy have Legendary skins?

Nope. Every Academy skin is Standard tier. No Legendaries, no Epics, nothing above 975 RP. The line predates Riot's push toward premium skinlines with new VFX and VO. If you want the school theme with Legendary treatment, Battle Academia Ezreal is probably what you're looking for instead.

When did the Academy skinline release?

The line started in 2010 with Professor Ryze and ran through 2015 when Academy Ekko dropped. Five years of sporadic releases. Most of the core roster landed around 2014-2015. Feels like a lifetime ago in League years. Season 4 and 5 era, back when the game looked completely different.

Are Academy skins worth buying?

At 750-975 RP, yeah. Especially Headmistress Fiora and Academy Darius. You're not getting new particles or voice lines but the model swaps are clean and the price is right. Think of them as solid budget options. Not gonna lie, I rotate Academy Darius into my ranked games regularly and it still feels worth what I paid.

Do Academy skins have chromas?

No chromas for any Academy skin. These all released before Riot started the chroma system in earnest. What you see is what you get. One color variant per skin. Kinda wish they'd retroactively add chromas to Headmistress Fiora at least, a red or black uniform variant would go hard. But I doubt Riot revisits skins this old.

Will Riot make more Academy skins?

Unlikely. Battle Academia launched in 2019 and basically replaced Academy as the school-themed skinline with higher production value. The last Academy skin was Ekko in 2015, so the line has been dormant for over a decade. Could see Riot doing a nostalgia callback someday but I wouldnt hold my breath on it.
