Chempunk Chainsword is the anti-healing item for Attack Damage fighters in League of Legends: 45 Attack Damage, 450 Health and 15 Ability Haste for 3,000 gold in patch 26.21. Hackshorn, the passive, puts 40% Wounds on any enemy champion you damage physically, so their healing drops for 3 seconds after each hit.

What does Hackshorn do?

It shuts down healing. Any physical damage you deal to an enemy champion applies 40% Wounds for 3 seconds, which reduces the healing and regeneration they receive while it lasts. Wounds is the game’s name for the effect most players still call Grievous Wounds.

Because it works on any physical damage, abilities count as well as attacks. A fighter with a few physical spells can keep the debuff on a target for a whole fight without trying very hard (handy against a drain tank who’d otherwise heal through everything).

Simple passive. Big effect.

When do you need Chempunk Chainsword?

When the enemy team heals a lot. Champions with Life Steal, Omnivamp, big self-heals or a strong enchanter support all lose a chunk of their sustain once Wounds is on them. Honestly, against two or more healers it’s often the first defensive question your build has to answer.

Who else can apply it? Marksmen usually get Wounds from Mortal Reminder, mages from Morellonomicon, and tanks from Thornmail. This item is the version for bruisers, so in practice only one player on your team needs anti-heal from their role, and it should be the one who hits the healer most often.

Is it gold efficient?

Very, at 118% on raw stats. You get 3,525 gold of value for 3,000 gold.

That’s 45 Attack Damage worth 1,575 gold, 450 Health worth 1,200 gold at 2.67 per point, and 15 Ability Haste worth 750. To be fair, it was not always this strong on paper: the 14.19 update swapped damage for a lot more Health, and that’s where most of the efficiency comes from now.

What does it build from?

Executioner’s Calling (800 gold), Giant’s Belt (900 gold) and Caulfield’s Warhammer (1,050 gold), plus a 250 gold combine. Executioner’s Calling already applies Wounds, so buying it first gives you anti-heal early (great when your lane opponent heals), long before the full item is done. Giant’s Belt is the Health chunk, and since nothing builds out of the finished sword, the slot is done once you combine it.

How has it changed over the patches?

It’s in Riot’s data from patch 10.23. The biggest shift came in 2024:

  • Patch 12.11: Attack Damage 45 → 55, Ability Haste 15 → 25, effect text changed.
  • Patch 12.14: cost 2,600 → 2,800 gold.
  • Patch 14.1: Ability Haste 25 → 15.
  • Patch 14.19: cost 2,800 → 3,100 gold, Attack Damage 55 → 45, Health 250 → 450.
  • Patch 26.6: cost 3,100 → 3,000 gold.

Since 14.19 it reads more like a tanky bruiser item than a damage one. Why the change? Riot’s data only shows the numbers, not the reason, so we won’t guess. For the 2021 tweaks, scroll up to the table. Every other item in our LoL items database has one like it.

Who builds Chempunk Chainsword?

Attack Damage fighters and some physical junglers, mostly in top lane and jungle, when the enemy has healing to cut. Long story short, it’s a situational item: great against sustain, close to wasted against a team with none. Not sure which role is supposed to carry anti-heal on your team? Our guide to LoL roles covers what each position usually buys, and bruisers are the ones who pick up Chempunk Chainsword.
