Gwen

Gwen Skins

5 skins available

Gwen is one of those champions where every skin feels like Riot actually tried. Five skins total since her 2021 release and not a single dud in the bunch. Might be overthinking it but I think she's got one of the most consistent skin catalogs in the game relative to how young she is as a champion. Been playing her on and off since release, mostly as a counterpick into tanky top lane comps, and every time I lock in a different skin it feels like a different vibe entirely. No Legendaries yet which is wild considering how well her kit translates to flashy VFX.

How Gwen's Skin Collection Shaped Up

Five skins in three years. For a champion released in April 2021, thats a solid pace. Riot clearly sees money in the scissor lady and I cant blame them. Every single skin sits at Epic tier, 1350 RP across the board. No budget options, no Legendaries, just a clean row of Epics. Consistent pricing but also means you're paying the same whether you grab Space Groove or Battle Queen.

The timeline goes like this. Cafe Cuties dropped first in 2021, same year as her release. Then Space Groove, Soul Fighter, and the rest filled out through 2022, 2023, and 2024. Battle Queen Gwen is the newest one. Rain Shepherd rounds out the five. Three years, five skins, zero misses in my opinion.

What stands out to me is the thematic range. Gwen's base design is already pretty unique with the whole haunted doll seamstress thing, scissors and needles and thread. Could be wrong here but I feel like that gives Riot's skin team more to work with than your average bruiser. Compare her to someone like Darius who gets "angry man in different armor" repeatedly. Gwen gets a cafe waitress, a disco dancer, a martial artist. Way more creative space.

No Legendary yet though. Feels overdue. Her kit has Q snips, W mist zone, E dash, and R needle storm. All of those would look incredible with Legendary-tier VFX and new voice lines. (Random thought but I'd pay 1820 RP for a Legendary Gwen skin in a heartbeat if Riot gave her new VO that leans harder into the creepy doll lore.) For now the Epic treatment does her justice but there's clearly room to go bigger.

Best Gwen Skins Ranked

This is where it gets subjective. All five are good. But some are better.

Space Groove Gwen is my number one pick. Full stop. The disco aesthetic works ridiculously well with her animations. Her Q snips have these groovy particle trails, the W mist zone turns into this retro dance floor bubble, and her R needles look like they're shooting out of a lava lamp. Played maybe 80 games with this one in Diamond last season and the VFX never got old. The recall animation where she does the little dance is clean too. 1350 RP well spent for mains.

Cafe Cuties Gwen comes in second. The pastel color palette is gorgeous and her scissors turn into these oversized dessert scissors which sounds ridiculous but actually looks great in game. The splash art alone is worth it. Not gonna lie, I initially thought the cafe theme would feel too cutesy for ranked but it reads perfectly fine on the Rift. Her E dash has this sweet little pastry VFX trail. Good skin.

Soul Fighter Gwen hits different if you're into the fighting game aesthetic. Released during that big Soul Fighter event in 2023 and it shows. Her Q feels punchier with the martial arts VFX, like she's actually slashing instead of snipping. The W zone gets this arena-style barrier look. Spammed this in ranked for a solid two weeks after it dropped. Strong third place.

Battle Queen Gwen is the newest addition from 2024. The Battle Queens line fits her surprisingly well since shes already got that regal doll queen energy in her base design. The crown motif on her abilities is a nice touch. Her R needles have this royal purple and gold color scheme that pops hard in teamfights. Not sure if it's just me but this one feels slightly less visually distinct from base compared to the others. Still good, just maybe fourth in the lineup.

Rain Shepherd Gwen rounds out the collection. Different vibe from the rest. More muted, pastoral, calming. The theme works with her gentle personality but I think in practice the VFX dont pop as hard as Space Groove or Soul Fighter in actual games. In lane specifically, the ability particles can blend with the environment a bit. Solid skin, not my first pick though.

Skinlines and How They Fit Gwen

Five skinlines: Space Groove, Cafe Cuties, Soul Fighter, Battle Queens, Rain Shepherd. Real talk though, Gwen is one of those champions that can slot into almost any thematic because her base design is so flexible. Haunted doll with scissors? That translates into disco dancer, cafe worker, martial artist, royalty, and pastoral shepherd without feeling forced for any of them.

Space Groove is the standout skinline for her. The retro disco theme gives her animations so much personality. Been saying this since season 12 but Space Groove is one of Riot's best skinlines period and Gwen fits it perfectly. The whole line has this playful energy that matches her character.

Cafe Cuties is another strong thematic fit. The sweet pastel aesthetic plays into her doll-like design naturally. (Sidebar for anyone who plays both Gwen and Bard: Cafe Cuties Bard is also incredible, the whole skinline just works.) Soul Fighter was a surprise hit. Didn't expect the fighting game theme to mesh with Gwen's kit but the martial arts angle on her scissor attacks creates this cool hybrid samurai-seamstress look.

Battle Queens made sense from day one. Gwen already has queen energy in her lore. Rain Shepherd is the most subdued of the five and kinda feels like Riot experimenting with a quieter aesthetic for her. Not every skin needs to be flashy. Sometimes you want something chill for your late night ranked sessions.

No Dark Star Gwen. No PROJECT Gwen. No High Noon Gwen. Might be overthinking it but any of those could work. Her scissors in a cyber-enhanced PROJECT style? Would go hard. Maybe season 15.

Budget vs Premium: All Roads Lead to 1350

Here's the thing with Gwen. There is no budget option. Every skin is 1350 RP. No 975 RP value pick, no 520 RP budget beater. You're paying Epic price no matter what. This is common for newer champions since Riot basically stopped making sub-Epic skins around 2018 or so.

So the question isnt "which one saves money" but "which 1350 gives you the most." And that answer for me is Space Groove. Best VFX, best recall, best overall package for the price. If you're only buying one Gwen skin ever, Space Groove. Take this with a grain of salt but I've tried all five extensively in my Diamond games this split and Space Groove just feels the cleanest to play with.

If you're a Gwen one-trick though, honestly grab two or three and rotate. Keeps the champion fresh. Been doing that myself since around season 13. Lock in Space Groove for tryhard games, Cafe Cuties when you're feeling casual, Soul Fighter when you want to feel like you're in a fighting game. 1350 each means three skins runs you 4050 RP which is roughly one bundle's worth. Fair price for the package.

No Legendary means no 1820 RP option to agonize over. Simplifies things. Every purchase is the same commitment level and every skin delivers comparable value. Kinda nice actually.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Gwen have?

Gwen has 5 skins total as of 2024. All Epic tier at 1350 RP each. For a champion released in 2021 thats a pretty healthy collection. Riot's been giving her consistent attention, roughly one to two skins per year since launch. No signs of slowing down either based on how popular she stays in ranked.

What is the best Gwen skin?

Space Groove Gwen. Not even close in my opinion. The disco VFX on her Q and R are the best in her catalog. Played this one for months in Diamond and it still feels fresh. Cafe Cuties is a strong second pick if you prefer the pastel aesthetic over retro disco vibes.

What is the cheapest Gwen skin?

Every Gwen skin costs 1350 RP. No budget options exist for her. Riot hasn't made a sub-Epic Gwen skin and probably wont since they stopped producing 975 RP skins for newer champs years ago. Your cheapest route is waiting for the Your Shop discount or snagging one from a chest.

Does Gwen have a Legendary skin?

No Legendary yet. All five skins are Epic at 1350 RP. Feels overdue honestly. Her kit would benefit massively from new voice lines and Legendary-tier VFX. The Q snips and R needle storm could look incredible with that extra budget. Hoping Riot addresses this in 2025 but no announcements so far.

What skinlines is Gwen in?

Five skinlines: Space Groove, Cafe Cuties, Soul Fighter, Battle Queens, and Rain Shepherd. Good range honestly. Space Groove and Cafe Cuties fit her best thematically. Soul Fighter was a pleasant surprise. She hasnt appeared in any of the mega-popular lines like Star Guardian or PROJECT yet which feels like a missed opportunity.

Does Gwen have chromas?

Most of her skins have chromas available. The exact count varies per skin but you're looking at anywhere from six to eight chromas on the ones that have them. Obsidian tends to be the popular pick across the board. Worth checking individual skin pages here for the full chroma breakdowns and color options.

When was Gwen's last skin released?

Battle Queen Gwen dropped in 2024, making it her most recent skin. The Battle Queens line fit her aesthetic well. Before that Soul Fighter came out in 2023 during the big summer event. Riot's been hitting roughly one skin per year for her which is a solid cadence for a newer champion.

Is Gwen worth buying skins for?

If you play her regularly then absolutely. Her skins have some of the best VFX work at the Epic tier. The scissor animations translate well across every theme. Even if you only grab one, Space Groove alone makes her feel like a different champion. Wouldn't recommend buying all five unless you're a one-trick though. Pick two or three and rotate.
