The Most Popular Fortnite Dances and How to Get Them
The most popular Fortnite dances are the ones that left the game: Dance Moves (the free default), Floss, Orange Justice, Take The L, Electro Shuffle, Billy Bounce, Rollie, Get Griddy and Gangnam Style. Three of them were Battle Pass rewards in 2017 and 2018 and are off the market for good; the rest return to the Item Shop for 500 or 800 V-Bucks.
A quick word on how we picked. Epic doesn’t publish how often players use each emote, so this isn’t a usage ranking. It’s our list of the dances that became memes, school-playground staples or both, with the facts for each one (rarity, release date, how you got it) taken from the Fortnite Wiki emote pages.

Which Fortnite dances can’t you buy anymore?
Floss, Take The L, Best Mates and Orange Justice. All four were Battle Pass rewards in Chapter 1, and Battle Pass items don’t return to the Item Shop, so if you see one in a lobby, that account was playing in late 2017 or early 2018.
Floss was the big one, funny enough, even though you had to grind for it. It was the tier 49 reward of the Season 2 pass and copied a dance that Russel Horning, known as the Backpack Kid, posted in August 2016. Take The L, from Season 3, became the go-to taunt after an elimination (its in-game description is “Savor the W,” which Epic later turned into a separate emote).
Orange Justice has the best story. It started as a fan entry in the Season 3 #boogiedown contest, submitted on the contest’s first day and placed 23rd, and Epic added it anyway as a free tier 26 reward in the Season 4 pass. Honestly, it’s the reason a lot of players still remember that contest at all.
Is the default dance still free?
Yes. Dance Moves comes with every account, and it’s older than Battle Royale itself: the Fortnite Wiki dates it to Online Test 2 in March 2015, back when Fortnite was only Save the World in testing. The clap at the start and the finger-pointing are probably the most copied Fortnite moves outside the game.
Popular Fortnite dances you can still buy
These rotate through the Item Shop. In practice, that means waiting. They aren’t always available, so the price only matters on the day they show up.
- Electro Shuffle (Epic, 800 V-Bucks) was released on December 14, 2017, the same day as Floss, and was the first emote ever sold in the Item Shop.
- Phone It In (Epic, 800 V-Bucks) is the saxophone one. It first appeared on December 3, 2018, in Chapter 1 Season 6, not Season 9 as you’ll still see on some old lists.
- Billy Bounce costs 500 V-Bucks on its own, and it’s a traversal emote, so you can keep moving while it plays. It also showed up in several creator Locker Bundles.
- Rollie and Gangnam Style are Icon Series emotes at 500 V-Bucks each, using “Rolex” by Ayo & Teo and PSY’s “Gangnam Style.”
- Get Griddy, also 500 V-Bucks, arrived in Chapter 2 Season 6 and was later bundled with NFL receiver Justin Jefferson’s Locker Bundle.
To be fair, “popular” shifts every season. A new Icon Series emote can take over lobbies for a month and then disappear from view, while Floss and Orange Justice never really left the conversation.
What are Icon Series emotes?
Icon Series emotes license real songs or real people’s dances, such as Rollie, Gangnam Style and Get Griddy. They play the actual track, which is why they’re the most recognisable Fortnite dances in clips. Scenario is a fun exception: it uses the choreography from iKON’s “LOVE SCENARIO” and came out in Chapter 1 Season 8 with the IKONIK Bundle, but the wiki notes it isn’t an Icon Series emote.
