League of Legends redeem codes: AgataSmurf article cover

League of Legends redeem codes go in through the client: open it, go to the Store, click the Account button and choose the Redeem Codes category, or enter the code at redeem.riotgames.com. Prepaid gift cards for RP are the exception: Riot says you can only redeem them inside the game client, not on the website. Each code works once, and codes from unauthorised sellers are not supported.

How to redeem a code in League of Legends client and website

How do I use League of Legends redeem codes?

Riot gives two places to redeem a code, and both lead to the same result:

Where Steps Works for
League client Store, then the Account button, then Redeem Codes Riot codes and prepaid gift cards
redeem.riotgames.com Sign in with your Riot account, enter the code Riot codes, not prepaid gift cards

In the client, the steps take under a minute:

  1. Log in to the League of Legends client with the account that should receive the reward.
  2. Open the Store.
  3. Click the Account button at the top of the Store.
  4. Choose the Redeem Codes category.
  5. Type the code exactly as printed and confirm.

The reward lands on the account straight away: RP in your balance, or the skin, icon or other item in your collection. Restart the client if it does not appear at once. Keep the card or the email with the code until the reward shows, in case you need it for a support ticket.

LoL redeem codes vs prepaid gift cards

They look similar and behave differently. A Riot code usually comes from a promotion, an event or a partner, and unlocks a specific reward. A prepaid gift card is a card you buy in a shop or from an authorised online seller, and it adds RP or credit.

The key rule comes from Riot’s codes FAQ: you redeem prepaid gift cards within the game client, and the website will not accept them. Thing is, many people try the website first, get an error and assume the card is broken. Usually it is fine (just in the wrong place), and the client takes it without complaint once you open the right menu.

Why is my LoL redeem code not working?

Annoying, but fixable. Riot’s FAQ names the usual reasons:

  • The code was already redeemed, on your account or another one. Each code works once, and that includes accounts on different servers.
  • The code was bought or obtained from an unauthorised third party. Riot Support does not help with those.
  • The code has expired. Many promotional codes have an end date.

Typing errors are the other common cause, and the most fixable one. Check characters that look alike (0 and O, 1 and I), leave out spaces, and copy the code rather than retyping it if you received it digitally.

If none of that explains it, contact Riot Support with the code, your Riot ID and the email address on your account. Real talk: a screenshot of the card or the email the code arrived in speeds things up, since support needs to see where the code came from.

Can you redeem a code on a different region?

Short answer: no. A code is tied to the first account that redeems it, whichever server that account is on. Prepaid cards are also sold for specific regions and currencies, so a card bought for one country may not work on an account from another. Before buying a gift card for someone, check which region their account is on.

If you play on more than one server, redeem each code on the account you actually want it on. There is no way to move a redeemed reward to a different account later.

Where do LoL redeem codes come from?

Legitimate codes come from a short list of places. Riot itself runs promotions and events, sometimes with codes for icons, emotes or other cosmetics. Partners occasionally offer League rewards through their own programmes. Physical and digital gift cards come from authorised retailers, and the card packaging shows which game and region they are for.

What you will not find is a working “free RP code generator” or a list of free skin codes on a random site. Those pages exist to collect logins, push surveys or install software. Either the code never existed, or someone redeemed it long before you saw it.

Are cheap RP codes from resellers safe?

Codes from unauthorised sellers are risky. Riot’s FAQ says support does not help with codes purchased or acquired from third parties, and fraudsters buy some cheap codes with stolen cards; when the bank reverses the payment, Riot can remove the RP from the account that redeemed it. Buy gift cards from Riot’s store or retailers Riot lists, and you avoid that problem.

Want to know what a card is worth in skins before buying? Our RP to USD calculator converts RP amounts at Riot’s current prices, which helps you pick the right card value instead of the biggest one on the shelf.

What can you buy with redeemed RP?

Lots. RP buys skins, champions, chromas, emotes, ward skins, the paid battle pass track and more in the League store. It also covers services such as a region transfer. RP stays on the account until you spend it, but it does not move between accounts, so redeem gift cards on the account you play most.

For what it’s worth, it is worth browsing before spending. Our LoL skins database lists every skin with its price tier, and sales come round often enough that patience usually pays.

RP did not show up after redeeming?

Don’t panic. Give it a moment, then restart the client; the balance in the corner sometimes updates only after a fresh login. Check that you are on the right account if you have more than one (an easy mistake with a smurf and a main on the same PC). If the code was accepted but nothing arrived after a restart, contact Riot Support with the code and a screenshot of the confirmation.

Gift cards as a present

RP gift cards are a common present for League players. Before buying one, ask which region the account is on, because cards are sold for specific regions and currencies. Look, then pick a value that matches something they actually want: a specific skin, a battle pass, or a champion. A new player may get more out of Blue Essence planning than RP, and our Blue Essence calculator shows how far free currency goes before any money is needed.

Redeeming codes safely

A few habits keep codes and accounts safe:

  1. Redeem only in the League client or on redeem.riotgames.com.
  2. Never enter your Riot password on a site that offers codes; real redemption pages use Riot’s own sign-in.
  3. Keep the card or email until the reward shows up on your account, and a little longer if it was a large amount.
  4. Redeem promotional codes soon after you get them, before they expire.
  5. Do not share a code publicly; the first person to redeem it gets it, and screenshots of codes get copied within minutes.

Honestly, most problems with codes start at the shop, not at the redeem screen. Stick to Riot and authorised sellers. Boring is good.

Can you get a refund for a redeemed card?

Generally not once the RP is on the account, since redeeming turns the card into account currency, and to be fair, that is how almost every game’s gift cards work. Problems before redemption, such as a damaged card or a code that never worked, go to the retailer or to Riot Support depending on where you bought it. Keep the receipt until the RP shows up, which is the simplest way to sort out any dispute later.

Other Riot games use the same site

redeem.riotgames.com handles Riot codes for Riot’s games, not just League. Valorant players use the same Riot account, but Valorant currency is separate from League’s RP, and a League code does not give Valorant Points. Make sure the code or card says which game it is for before you redeem it. If you play TFT, it shares the League client and store, so League RP and League codes apply there too. Looking to redeem a code in League of Legends specifically? The client route above is the one that always works.
