Stargazer is one of those skinlines that showed up, dropped a single skin, and then Riot just... moved on. Kinda feels like they had a bigger plan and shelved it. Stargazer Vex is the only entry here, sitting at 1350 RP as an Epic, and honestly it's a strange one to talk about because the line itself barely exists. But the skin? The skin is actually pretty solid. I've been running it in my Diamond games since it hit the shop, and Vex mains specifically know what I mean when I say the cosmic aesthetic just works on a champion who's supposed to feel isolated and moody. One skin. That's the whole roster. Wild.

What Makes the Stargazer Line Stand Out

Not gonna lie, when I first saw Stargazer as a skinline name I expected something in the Cosmic or Dark Star family. Similar space-adjacent vibes. But Stargazer goes a different direction. Where Cosmic leans into ethereal blues and purples with that celestial dragon energy, Stargazer pulls from actual stargazing. Think observatory aesthetics, constellations mapped onto abilities, that late-night-looking-up-at-the-sky feeling. The color palette sits in deep indigo and warm gold, which is a combination Riot doesnt use enough in my opinion.

The visual signature on Stargazer Vex specifically centers around constellation patterns in her VFX. Her shadow gets this starfield treatment that looks clean on the Rift, especially at night-side maps or in darker jungle areas. The splash art captures it well too. Vex sitting alone under the stars, her shadow stretching out behind her with glowing constellation lines running through it. Moody. Fits the champion perfectly.

Could be wrong here but I think the reason Stargazer works where similar lines sometimes don't is restraint. There's no over-the-top particle spam. No galaxy explosions every time you cast Q. The effects are subtle, almost quiet, which matches Vex's personality as a champion who literally hates excitement. Compare this to something like Space Groove where every ability is a disco party. Stargazer is the opposite end of that spectrum. Calm. Measured. The stars just... exist around her abilities, and the gold accents pop without screaming for attention.

I played a ranked session last Thursday around midnight, maybe 4 games back to back, and on the darker sections of Summoner's Rift the constellation VFX genuinely look better than in normal lighting. Not sure if Riot designed it that way or if its just how the contrast works out. Either way, notable.

One thing that separates Stargazer from the Cosmic line visually: Cosmic skins tend to have transparent or translucent model elements. Think Cosmic Lux or Cosmic Xin Zhao where parts of their armor look like they're made of nebula gas. Stargazer keeps Vex's model more grounded. She's still wearing actual clothes, they just have star motifs embroidered into them. More like someone who watches the stars than someone who became one. That distinction matters for champion readability in teamfights too.

Best Stargazer Skins (Well, the Only One)

Look, with one skin in the entire line this section writes itself. Stargazer Vex is the best Stargazer skin by default. Also the worst. Also the most mid. She holds every record simultaneously.

Real talk though, Stargazer Vex is genuinely a strong Epic skin. At 1350 RP you're getting new model, new VFX across all abilities, new recall animation, and updated SFX. Voice lines stay base, which is standard for the tier. The recall is the highlight for me. Vex sits down, her shadow pulls out a telescope, and constellations start mapping across the ground around her. Simple concept. Clean execution. Been spamming this in Diamond on my Vex games and the recall animation alone gets compliments in lobby chat maybe once every ten games or so.

Her Q (Mistral Bolt) sends out this streak of starlight that leaves constellation trail particles. Not sure if it's just me but the Q hitbox actually feels visually clearer on Stargazer than on base Vex. The missile reads well against most terrain types. Her W (Personal Space) creates this burst of stellar energy around her, gold ring expanding outward. Looks good. Does the job.

The E (Looming Darkness) is where the skin earns its keep though. That shadow zone on the ground? Stargazer turns it into a dark patch of night sky with stars visible inside it. When it arms and the fear triggers, the stars inside the zone collapse inward. Honestly not gonna lie, first time I saw that interaction I paused in the practice tool for a good minute just watching it repeat. (Random aside: I've been playing League since season 3 and the small VFX details still get me sometimes. Might be a problem.)

Ult is solid too. Shadow Surge with the Stargazer treatment makes the shadow projectile look like a shooting star tracking across the Rift. When it connects and you dash to the target, there's this burst of constellation lines radiating outward. Good teamfight readability. Good feel. In my ranked games last week I landed a 4-man ult engage near dragon pit and the VFX explosion from multiple resets looked incredible. The gold particles stacking on each mark pop really hard.

Where I think the skin could be better: the model itself is maybe a bit too safe. Vex's outfit changes from her gloomy purple hoodie to an indigo robe with gold constellation embroidery, but the silhouette stays very similar to base. For 1350 I'm not complaining, thats pretty standard for Epic skins. But if this were a Legendary at 1820 I'd want more model differentiation.

The Vex Question: Champion Roster Thoughts

Stargazer has exactly one champion: Vex. That's the roster. Done.

But the interesting conversation here is who should be next. If Riot ever returns to this skinline, and I genuinely hope they do, the thematic space is wide open. Stargazer works best on champions who have a contemplative or solitary personality. Not every champion needs to be a cosmic being to earn a star-themed skin. The whole point of Stargazer versus Cosmic is that Stargazer champions are looking at the stars, not made of them.

Might be overthinking it but here's my shortlist. Aurelion Sol would be the obvious pick but honestly he's already a star dragon, that's just his base fantasy. Too on the nose. Instead give me Stargazer Jhin. A perfectionist artist obsessed with the mathematical precision of star patterns? Four shots, four stars in a constellation. The ult could be a telescope scope overlay. Writes itself. Riot please.

Stargazer Soraka makes thematic sense too. She's literally named after stars in her lore. And someone like Aphelios, already moon-themed in his kit, would transition naturally into Stargazer aesthetics. His weapons could each reference different constellations. Five weapons, five constellation sets. The ADC mains would eat that up.

Then there's the wildcard: Stargazer Bard. A wandering cosmic entity who already collects chimes across the Rift. Make the chimes falling stars. Make his magical journey a comet trail. His ult freezes targets in a star map projection. I'd one-trick support for a month straight if they dropped that skin. Maybe two months. (Sidebar: I actually played Bard support in like season 11 for about 50 games and it was the most fun I've had in ranked. But I'm a mid main so it didn't last.)

The point is the Stargazer line has room. The aesthetic is distinct enough from Cosmic, Dark Star, and Space Groove to justify expansion. One skin feels like a pilot episode that never got picked up for a full season.

Tier and Price Breakdown

Straightforward section. Stargazer has one tier represented: Epic. One price point: 1350 RP. That's it. No Legendary, no Mythic, no Prestige, no Ultimate. Just a single Epic skin doing its thing at the standard price point that like 60% of all League skins share.

1350 feels fair for Stargazer Vex. You get the full Epic package. New model, new VFX, new SFX, new recall. No new voice lines but that's expected at this tier. Compare it to other solo-skin lines like Risen Legends or Rain Shepherd and the quality holds up. Not every skinline needs a Legendary anchor to be worth your RP.

If Riot expanded Stargazer, I'd want to see at least one Legendary in the next batch. A 1820 RP Stargazer skin with new voice lines could lean hard into the observatory astronomer fantasy. New VO about charting constellations, tracking celestial events, maybe some lines about being alone under the night sky. That melancholy tone would work on champions like Jhin or Kindred. Honestly I think a Stargazer Legendary could compete with some of the better Cosmic Legendaries if executed right.

For now though, 1350 RP for the only Stargazer skin is the whole pricing conversation. Shop has it. Permanent availability. No vault rotation, no loot exclusivity, no event pass required. Just go buy it if you want it. Standard stuff.

Take this with a grain of salt but I think Epic skins at 1350 are where Riot's quality is most consistent these days. The 975 tier feels neglected, the 1820 tier is hit or miss depending on champion popularity, but 1350 Epics in the 2022-onward era pretty reliably deliver good VFX work. Stargazer Vex fits that pattern. Not the best Epic skin ever made but solidly above average. Played maybe 80 games with it across two seasons and never felt like I wasted the RP.

Season 12 or 13 era Epics specifically hit a sweet spot where Riot's VFX team had their pipeline dialed in. Before that you'd occasionally get Epics that felt closer to 975 quality. These days though 1350 means 1350. Consistent. Stargazer Vex benefits from landing in that window where the standard was already high.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stargazer Skins

How many Stargazer skins are there?

Just one. Stargazer Vex is the only skin in the entire line. Riot dropped it and hasn't added to the roster since. Could be they're testing the waters or could be they just moved on to other themes. Either way, one skin is all we've got for now. Hoping for more but not holding my breath honestly.

What is the best Stargazer skin?

Stargazer Vex wins by default since she's the only one. That said, she's a genuinely solid Epic skin at 1350 RP. The constellation VFX on her E and ult look clean in game, and the recall animation with the telescope is a nice touch. Not a participation trophy situation. She actually earns the recommendation even without competition.

Which champions have Stargazer skins?

Only Vex. The Stargazer roster is a one-champion show right now. If Riot expands it, champions with solitary or contemplative themes would fit best. Think Jhin, Soraka, Aphelios, maybe Bard. But for now you're looking at Vex and thats the complete list. Fingers crossed for a batch two someday.

Does Stargazer have Legendary skins?

No Legendaries in the Stargazer line. The only skin is Stargazer Vex at 1350 RP, which is the Epic tier. No new voice lines, no special interactions. Standard Epic package. A Stargazer Legendary would be cool though, the theme has enough depth for full VO treatment with observatory and constellation dialogue.

When did the Stargazer skinline release?

Stargazer launched alongside Vex's release window. Single drop, no follow-up batches. Been a while since the initial release and Riot hasn't announced any new additions. Some skinlines get annual updates, others get one batch and thats it. Stargazer is looking like the latter unless something changes in upcoming roadmaps.

Are Stargazer skins worth buying?

If you play Vex regularly, yeah. Stargazer Vex is a well-made Epic skin with clean constellation VFX that look good on the Rift. 1350 RP is fair for the quality you're getting. Not a must-buy if you already own Dawnbringer Vex or another premium option, but for Vex mains building a collection its a strong pickup. Solid value.

Do Stargazer skins have chromas?

Check the individual Stargazer Vex page for current chroma availability. Some Epic skins launch with chromas and others get them added later through events or bundles. Chroma availability can change with shop rotations and event passes, so the specific count depends on when you're looking. Worth checking the shop directly.

Will Riot make more Stargazer skins?

No official announcements as of now. Riot has expanded single-skin lines before though. Spirit Blossom started small and grew into a massive event line. Could be wrong but Stargazer has enough thematic space for expansion. The observatory star-watching aesthetic is distinct from Cosmic and Dark Star. Whether Riot sees the demand is another question entirely.
