Dunkmaster Skins

Dunkmaster is one of those skinlines where you either get it immediately or you sit there confused wondering why Riot turned League into an NBA game. Personally I love it. The whole concept is basketball meets the Rift and it works way better than it should on paper. There's only 2 skins in the line, Dunkmaster Darius and Dunkmaster Ivern, but honestly the Darius skin alone carries the entire theme so hard that it barely matters. Been rocking Dunkmaster Darius since 2014 in ranked and I still get comments about it in champ select. The basketball court recall animation never gets old.

What Makes Dunkmaster Stand Out on the Rift

Not gonna lie, the Dunkmaster skinline is probably the most committed sports-themed concept Riot has ever done. Like there's Pool Party for summer vibes and Soccer Cup for the World Cup cash grab, but Dunkmaster goes all in on basketball. We're talking full court aesthetics. Jersey numbers. Sneakers. A literal basketball hoop in the recall. The dedication to the bit is what sells it.

The visual signature is loud and proud. Orange and red tones dominate, basketball textures on ability particles, and the splash arts look like sports magazine covers. Darius specifically has a basketball spinning on his axe. His axe is a basketball hoop backboard. The whole champion model screams "I showed up to ranked in a jersey and Im not sorry about it."

What ties the line together thematically is the slam dunk fantasy. Darius was the obvious first pick because his ultimate is literally called Noxian Guillotine but everyone just calls it the dunk. The entire champion identity revolves around dunking people. So turning that into an actual basketball dunk? Chef's kiss. (Random aside: I remember the teaser trailer dropping and the subreddit lost its collective mind over it.)

Compared to other sports skinlines, Dunkmaster commits harder to the concept. Soccer Cup skins feel like chromas with a ball. Dunkmaster rebuilds the champion around basketball. The VFX on Darius especially look nothing like his base kit. Every ability has basketball particles, court floor textures, the works. For a 2014 skin that level of detail was ahead of its time honestly.

Color palette leans into classic basketball orange, gym floor browns, jersey reds and whites. Clean stuff. Nothing muddy or hard to read in teamfights which is a problem some themed skinlines have. You can always tell its a Dunkmaster skin at a glance.

Best Dunkmaster Skins Ranked

With only 2 skins this is a short list but the gap between them is massive. Real talk though, Dunkmaster Darius is one of the best Legendary skins in the entire game regardless of skinline. Might be biased since I been spamming Darius in Diamond for years but the skin genuinely earns its 1820 RP price tag.

Dunkmaster Darius dropped back in 2014 and it still holds up. New voice lines, new animations, basketball themed everything. His Q spins a basketball. His W is a chest pass. His E yanks people into the paint. And the ult? Full vertical leap slam dunk with a basketball hoop appearing. The crowd goes wild sound effect on the kill is burned into my brain from maybe 500 games with this skin. Could be wrong here but I think its one of the earliest Legendaries that actually justified the price with a complete overhaul rather than just nice particles and a model swap.

The recall animation has Darius doing basketball tricks on a full court setup. Spinning the ball, dribbling, then slamming it. Takes like 8 seconds and I have sat in base watching the full thing more times than I want to admit. Last season around January I was in a promo game and almost died because I was watching the recall instead of the minimap. Worth it.

Dunkmaster Ivern on the other hand. Look. Kinda feels like Riot wanted to expand the line and picked possibly the weirdest champion for it. Ivern is a support jungler who plants bushes and shields people. The basketball theme on him is... a choice. Released in 2019 at 1350 RP, it's fine for an Epic tier skin. The Daisy basketball player is cute. But it doesnt hit the same way Darius does because Ivern's kit just doesn't translate to basketball naturally.

Not sure if it's just me but Dunkmaster Ivern feels like a meme skin that Riot made because the community kept joking about it. Which honestly? Fair enough. The skin has its charm in a goofy way. Daisy wearing a headband and sneakers is genuinely funny. But if you're picking the best Dunkmaster skin there's no contest. Darius wins by a mile.

(Sidebar for Darius mains specifically: you already own this skin. I know you do. Every Darius one-trick I've laned against in Diamond has either Dunkmaster or God-King equipped.)

The Dunkmaster Champion Roster

Two champions. Thats it. Darius and Ivern. Smallest skinline roster you'll find and it's been that way since 2019 with zero new additions. Five years of nothing. The line might honestly be done.

Darius fits the Dunkmaster theme perfectly. Like I said, his ult is a dunk. His whole playstyle in lane is aggressive, in your face, stacking bleeds and then slamming you into the ground. Basketball bully energy. The thematic fit is 10 out of 10, no notes.

Ivern is the odd one out. A tree-hugging pacifist jungle support wearing a basketball jersey. Could be coping but I think the humor is intentional. Riot leaned into the absurdity and it works as a comedy skin even if it doesn't work as a serious sports fantasy. His kit doesn't scream basketball but Daisy as a basketball player teammate is clever enough to justify it.

Who should get a Dunkmaster skin next? The community has been asking for years. Jarvan IV is the obvious pick since his ult is literally a slam from the sky. Illaoi could work with her tentacle slams. Maybe Vi with her charged Q as a running dunk. Been saying in ranked lobbies for months that Dunkmaster Jarvan would print money for Riot but they havent pulled the trigger. Ziggs is another one people mention since he throws stuff, could easily reskin his Q as a basketball.

The roster being this small is both a weakness and a strength. Weakness because there's barely anything to collect. Strength because the 2 skins that exist are both memorable. Quality over quantity I guess.

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

Simple math here. One Legendary at 1820 RP and one Epic at 1350 RP. Price range is tight. Total cost to own every Dunkmaster skin is 3170 RP which is less than some single Ultimate skins cost. Affordable lineup.

The Legendary carries the line. Hard. Dunkmaster Darius at 1820 RP gets you new VO, new animations, completely overhauled VFX and SFX, basketball themed everything. For a 2014 Legendary the amount of content is impressive. Some newer Legendaries feel like they deliver less honestly. The skin earned that price point and then some.

Dunkmaster Ivern at 1350 RP is standard Epic pricing. New model, new VFX, new recall, Daisy gets a basketball outfit. Standard package for the tier. Nothing groundbreaking but nothing missing either. Fair price for what you get.

Maybe just my experience but I feel like the Legendary tier is doing all the heavy lifting for the Dunkmaster brand. Nobody talks about Dunkmaster Ivern in the same breath. When someone says "Dunkmaster" on the Rift or in champ select everyone immediately thinks Darius. The Epic skin exists as a fun novelty. The Legendary is the reason the skinline has a reputation at all.

If Riot ever expands the line I'd expect more Epics at 1350 RP. Maybe a Prestige variant of Dunkmaster Darius someday but thats wishful thinking from a Darius main brain. (Unrelated but a Dunkmaster Prestige with a gold jersey would go crazy.)
