Kayn Skins
7 skins availableKayn is one of those champions where every skin feels like it matters more than usual. The whole dual-form thing with Shadow Assassin and Rhaast means every skin is basically two skins stapled together, and Riot knows it. Seven skins deep since 2017 and honestly theres not a single dud in the catalog. Been maining Kayn on and off since season 8, mostly in Diamond, and I've burned through every skin he has. Some jungle mains rotate skins for fun. With Kayn I rotate because each one changes how the champion reads in teamfights, and that actually matters when you're diving the backline as Shadow Assassin or running down carries as Rhaast.

4 skinsHow Kayn's Skin Catalog Has Grown
Seven skins total. Not a massive roster compared to someone like Lux or Ezreal, but Kayn's been around since 2017 and the release pace feels about right. Two Legendaries, four Epics, and one Mythic Prestige. No filler 520 RP recolors, no charity skins nobody asked for. Every release since Soulhunter has been 1350 RP or higher, which tells you Riot treats Kayn as a premium champion when it comes to cosmetics.
Soulhunter Kayn kicked things off back in 2017. Solid Epic, set the bar. Then Odyssey dropped and that was a game-changer for how people perceived Kayn skins. Could be wrong here but I think Odyssey is still the most-used Kayn skin in ranked even now. Nightbringer came next with its Prestige variant, Snow Moon filled the seasonal slot, HEARTSTEEL went full music universe, and Battle Academia is the latest addition from 2025.
The year range from 2017 to 2025 means Kayn's been getting consistent love. Not yearly releases exactly, but close enough. No long drought like some champions deal with. (Random thought: imagine being a Skarner main waiting four years between skins. Pain.) The dual-form mechanic means Riot has to design two complete visual packages for every Kayn skin, which I think is why they space them out a bit more. Quality over quantity and it shows.
Tier breakdown leans heavily toward premium. Four Epics at 1350 each, two Legendaries at 1820, and the Prestige Nightbringer sitting in the Mythic category. No budget options below 1350 RP. If you want to play Kayn with a skin, you're spending at least 1350 or getting lucky in Hextech crafting. Feels steep but every skin delivers enough visual changes to justify the price floor.
Best Kayn Skins Worth Locking In
Odyssey Kayn. Full stop, this is the one. Legendary tier, 1820 RP, and it earns every point of that price tag. The space pirate fantasy works absurdly well with Kayn's kit. Shadow Assassin form gets this sleek cosmic aesthetic, Q sends you through targets with a trail of space particles, and the W slash leaves this galaxy-colored arc that just reads clean on the Rift. Rhaast form goes full alien berserker. Different voice lines for both forms, unique recall animations, the whole package. Been spamming this in Diamond since like season 10 and I still dont get tired of it.
HEARTSTEEL Kayn is the other Legendary and it takes a completely different direction. Music-themed, stylish, kinda over the top in the best way. The Q animation has this bass-drop visual effect that I swear makes it feel smoother to play. Not sure if it's just me but the Shadow Assassin form on this skin has some of the cleanest E wall-phasing visuals in the game. Rhaast form goes full rock star demon. Voice lines are new for both forms obviously. The recall has him playing an instrument and its genuinely fun to watch. 1820 RP and competitive with Odyssey depending on your taste.
Real talk though. Choosing between Odyssey and HEARTSTEEL is the hardest decision Kayn mains face. Odyssey has the sci-fi edge, HEARTSTEEL has the music drip. I lean Odyssey for ranked because the ability VFX read more clearly in chaotic teamfights, but HEARTSTEEL is my go-to for normals when I want to style on people.
Prestige Nightbringer Kayn sits in Mythic territory. Special acquisition, not something you just buy in the shop. The golden-white color scheme on both forms looks premium. Shadow Assassin gets this angelic warrior vibe that contrasts hard with base Nightbringer's dark energy. Had this skin drop from a reroll last season around January and honestly it hits different knowing most people cant just buy it.
Nightbringer Kayn at 1350 is the best Epic in his catalog. The dark versus light thematic across Rhaast and Shadow Assassin forms works naturally with the champion concept. W feels impactful, the R animation where you dive into someone has this dramatic dark energy burst. Strong skin for the price. Soulhunter Kayn was his launch skin and still holds up as a clean alternative. The teal-green soul collector aesthetic on Rhaast form specifically looks great even by 2025 standards.
Snow Moon Kayn rounds out the Epics. Winter-themed, part of the Snow Moon line. Might be overthinking it but this one feels like the least inspired of the bunch. Its not bad by any means, the frost effects on Q and W look fine, but compared to how hard Nightbringer and Soulhunter go, Snow Moon sits in the "nice to have" category rather than "must own."
Battle Academia Kayn is the newest, dropped in 2025. School anime aesthetic applied to the edgy scythe boy. The contrast is kinda funny honestly. Shadow Assassin form gets the honor student look while Rhaast goes full delinquent. Played maybe 30 games with it since release and the ability VFX are crisp. Good Epic at 1350.
Kayn's Skinlines and How They Fit
Six different skinlines and they cover a wild range. Bilgewater: Curse of the Drowned is technically where Soulhunter falls. Odyssey sent him to space. Nightbringer and Dawnbringer played into the cosmic order-versus-chaos thing. Snow Moon went seasonal Japanese mythology. HEARTSTEEL put him in a boy band. Battle Academia threw him into anime school. Quite the resume.
Kinda feels like Riot uses Kayn as a testing ground for how dual-form skins interact with different thematic universes. The Nightbringer line is probably the most natural fit. Kayn's whole identity is the struggle between two forms, light versus dark, human versus Darkin. Nightbringer and Dawnbringer is literally about cosmic forces of order and chaos. It writes itself. (Sidebar for jungle mains: Nightbringer Kayn was the skin that made me start playing him in season 11. The thematic just clicked.)
Odyssey takes a risk with the space opera setting and nails it. HEARTSTEEL is the wildcard pick that shouldn't work as well as it does. The music universe skins can feel forced on some champions but Kayn's edgy personality translates surprisingly well into a rock star fantasy. Battle Academia leans into anime tropes which, fair warning, you either love or find cringe. No in-between on that one.
The skinlines where Kayn appears tend to be Riot's bigger event lines, not throwaway seasonal drops. That matters because it means each skin gets more development resources, more unique assets, more attention to how both forms look and feel. Even Snow Moon, which I ranked lowest earlier, still has form-specific visual changes that most champions would kill to have on their Epic skins.
Budget Picks vs Premium Kayn Skins
Here's the thing with Kayn's catalog. There's no true budget option. Lowest price is 1350 RP across all four Epics. No 975, no 750, no 520. If you're looking to skin up Kayn on the cheap, you're spending Epic money or praying for a Hextech reroll.
Best value pick is Nightbringer Kayn at 1350. Both forms look dramatically different from base, ability VFX are distinct, the thematic fits the champion perfectly. You're getting arguably 80% of what the Legendaries offer at 74% of the price. That math works out well.
Soulhunter at 1350 is the other strong value option. Its the OG skin and the art style has aged well enough. Not as flashy as Nightbringer but cleaner in some ways. If you only play Rhaast form, Soulhunter's red Darkin aesthetic might actually read better than Nightbringer's.
For the premium end, Odyssey at 1820 is the crown jewel. New voice lines for both forms, unique animations, the full Legendary treatment. HEARTSTEEL matches it feature for feature at the same price. Locked in both of these and alternate between them depending on mood. If I had to pick one Legendary for Kayn, Odyssey wins by a hair. The ability clarity in ranked teamfights gives it the edge when you're trying to climb.
Prestige Nightbringer is obviously the flex pick. Mythic tier, special acquisition only. You cant just decide to buy it one Tuesday afternoon. Worth chasing if you're a Kayn one-trick who wants the rare cosmetic. For everyone else, the two Legendaries and regular Nightbringer cover all your bases.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many skins does Kayn have?
Seven skins total as of 2025. Four Epics (Soulhunter, Nightbringer, Snow Moon, Battle Academia), two Legendaries (Odyssey and HEARTSTEEL), and one Mythic Prestige (Prestige Nightbringer). No budget tier skins, everything starts at 1350 RP. Solid catalog for a champion released in 2017. Not huge but every skin delivers because of the dual-form mechanic.
What is the best Kayn skin?
Odyssey Kayn for me. Legendary tier, new voice lines for both Shadow Assassin and Rhaast, unique VFX on every ability. The space pirate fantasy works perfectly with his kit. Been running this in ranked for years and it still feels fresh. HEARTSTEEL is a close second if you prefer the music aesthetic. Both are 1820 RP and worth it.
What is the cheapest Kayn skin?
All four Epics tie at 1350 RP: Soulhunter, Nightbringer, Snow Moon, and Battle Academia. There's no sub-1350 option for Kayn. No 975 or 750 tier skins exist. If you want the cheapest route, hope for a Hextech reroll or wait for the Your Shop discount. Nightbringer at 1350 gives the most bang for your RP.
Does Kayn have a Legendary skin?
Two Legendaries actually. Odyssey Kayn and HEARTSTEEL Kayn, both at 1820 RP. Each gets new voice lines for both forms, unique ability VFX, new recall animations, the full package. Having two Legendaries means you can pick your vibe - space pirate or rock star. Most Kayn mains I know own both honestly.
What skinlines is Kayn in?
Six skinlines. Bilgewater: Curse of the Drowned (Soulhunter), Odyssey, Nightbringer and Dawnbringer, Snow Moon, HEARTSTEEL, and Battle Academia. Wide variety from space opera to anime school. Nightbringer fits his dual-form identity the most naturally, but Odyssey and HEARTSTEEL push the creative boundaries harder. Good range overall.
Does Kayn have chromas?
Several of his skins have chroma options yeah. Nightbringer has a solid set, Snow Moon and Battle Academia also got chromas on release. The Prestige Nightbringer is essentially a premium chroma concept taken to the extreme. Check individual skin pages for specific chroma counts and colors - some have better options than others.
When was Kayn's last skin released?
Battle Academia Kayn in 2025. The anime school theme. Its an Epic at 1350 RP with form-specific visuals for both Shadow Assassin and Rhaast. Before that was HEARTSTEEL in the music universe line. Kayn gets fairly consistent skin releases, no massive droughts between them. Riot clearly knows he sells well.
Is Kayn worth buying skins for?
Absolutely. Maybe more than most champions honestly. The dual-form mechanic means every skin is basically two visual packages. You transform mid-game and get a completely different look depending on Shadow Assassin or Rhaast. That novelty doesn't wear off. Start with one Legendary (Odyssey recommended) and add Nightbringer Epic if you want variety. Worth every RP for jungle mains.
