Free LoL Account
A free LoL account is easy to get: Riot lets anyone create one at no cost, and League of Legends itself is free to play. What nobody gives away for free is a level 30 account with ranked unlocked. Getting there takes dozens of hours of play, and the “free level 30” offers online are almost always shared, stolen or fake.

Can you get a free LoL account?
Yes, and it takes about five minutes. You sign up on Riot’s site with an email, a password and a date of birth, pick a Riot ID, download the client and choose your region. That account costs nothing, gets the weekly free champion rotation, and can play normals, ARAM and co-op games right away.
The free part ends at ranked. Solo and Flex queue open at summoner level 30, and you also need 20 champions of your own. A brand-new account starts at level 1 with a small handful of champions, so the real question behind “free LoL account” is usually a different one: can someone hand me a level 30 for free?
Short version: not safely. Real talk, we sell accounts and still tell people to make their own first if they have the time (it is the only route with zero risk).
Why “free level 30 LoL account” offers are a trap
Search for a free level 30 and you will find the same four things. Each one fails for a specific reason.
- Lists of usernames and passwords on forums or paste sites. Whoever reads the post first changes the password, and the account is gone in minutes. Many of these logins come from leaks in the first place.
- “Account generators” that ask you to complete a survey or install an app. There is no tool that creates leveled Riot accounts on demand; the survey is the product, and your data is what gets sold.
- Giveaway wheels and spin-to-win pages. If the page cannot show you a winner, a prize count and a way the prize is delivered, assume the wheel is decoration. Some are coded to never land on the prize at all.
- Discord servers that promise a smurf after you invite 15 friends. You do the advertising, the smurf rarely arrives, and when it does it is usually botted.
The quiet risk is ownership. An account with a verified email belongs to whoever verified it. If the original owner files a recovery ticket with Riot, the account goes back to them, and everything you played or bought on it goes with it. Botted accounts carry a second risk: Riot bans bot-leveled accounts in waves, often weeks after they were made.
Which free options actually work?
Three of them are real. None hands you a ready ranked account, but each costs nothing (well, nothing except time).
| Option | Cost | Ranked on live servers | Main catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Riot account | Free | After level 30 and 20 champions | Dozens of hours of games first |
| PBE (Public Beta Environment) | Free | No | Test server only, progress stays there |
| Second account on another region | Free | After level 30 and 20 champions | Same grind, different server |
| Shared or “generated” level 30 | Free | Until it is taken back | Not yours, can be recovered or banned |
The PBE deserves a note, because people mix it up with a free smurf. It is Riot’s test server, where upcoming patches go live first and most content is unlocked so testers can try it. Fun for a weekend. Look, nothing on PBE carries over to EUW, NA or any live region, and there is no live ranked ladder to climb there.
How long does it take to reach level 30 for free?
Long enough that plenty of people give up somewhere in the teens, funny enough right around the levels where matchmaking starts to feel serious. Every match gives experience, longer games give more, and the amount needed per level rises as you go. In practice that means well over a hundred games for a typical player mixing ARAM and normals, plus the hours in queue and champion select.
ARAM is the usual shortcut. Games are shorter and you never wait for a lane opponent, so the hours per level drop. The catch is that you learn nothing about laning, waves or jungle timers, which is exactly what the first ranked games test. Normals on Summoner’s Rift are slower but closer to what ranked feels like.
Champions are the other half. You need 20 of your own, and the free rotation does not count. Blue Essence from levels and the early reward track pays for the cheap ones, and our Blue Essence calculator shows how far a balance goes. Not sure which 20 to buy? The random champion picker is a quick way to try roles you would never pick on your own.
If you are going the free route, our step-by-step guide to creating a LoL account covers the sign-up, the Riot ID and picking the right region (the one setting that is a paid fix later, since a region transfer costs RP).
Is it safe to use a free LoL account someone gives you?
Only if you can make it fully yours, and with free accounts you almost never can. A safe handover has three parts: you get the login, you change the password, and you attach your own email because the old one was never verified. Miss the third step and the account can be pulled back by whoever controls the original email.
Honestly, there is also the rulebook. Riot’s Terms of Service do not allow sharing, trading or selling accounts, and that applies to free accounts exactly as it does to paid ones. Riot does not ban people for owning a second account, but it does act on shared logins, botting and recovered accounts. Want to check an account before you put hours into it? Our guide on how to check a LoL ban shows what a restricted account looks like.
Free LoL account vs a paid one: what is the difference?
Time and ownership. A free account you create yourself is fully yours from minute one and costs you the leveling hours. A free account from a stranger skips the hours and is never fully yours. A paid account sits in between, and the honest version of it looks like this:
- leveled by hand to 30 in normal games, no bots;
- unverified email, so you attach your own and become the only owner;
- a written replacement policy if Riot bans it for the purchase or for leveling software.
That is how we run AgataSmurf. We have sold accounts since 2017, every LoL account is hand-leveled in-house and checked before handover, and the store is rated 5.0 from 61 reviews. Unranked accounts come with 30,000 BE or more, enough for 20 champions from the cheaper price tiers; ranked ready accounts already have their ten normal games played. Prices start at roughly $16 depending on region and type, and the cards on our LoL accounts page show the current ones.
To be fair, buying is still against Riot’s Terms, and we say so plainly. Our 30-day warranty covers a ban for “Purchase of an account” or third-party leveling under the conditions on that page (one of them: change the email and password before your first game), and it means a replacement, not a refund. Read the conditions before you buy.
What to do first with any new LoL account
Whether it is a fresh free account or one you bought, the first ten minutes decide whether it stays yours. Do these in order:
- Log in at Riot’s account page and change the password to one you use nowhere else.
- Add your own email and verify it.
- Turn on two-step login in the account settings.
- Set your Riot ID and check the region before playing a single game.
- Play a normal game or two before ranked to settle your settings and hotkeys.
Then decide how you want to spend the next few weeks. If the grind sounds fun, a free LoL account, a list of 20 champions and some patience are all you need. You learn the game on the way, too. If it does not, skip the giveaway wheels and buy from someone who will still answer an email in a month.
Free LoL Account FAQ
Is a LoL account free?
Yes. Creating a Riot account and playing League of Legends costs nothing. You only pay if you choose to buy RP for skins or champions, or buy an already leveled account.
Can I get a free level 30 LoL account?
Not safely. Free level 30 accounts online are shared, recovered or botted, and they can be taken back by the original owner or banned. The free way to a level 30 is leveling your own account.
What do I need to play ranked in League of Legends?
A level 30 account that owns at least 20 champions. Free rotation champions do not count toward the 20.
Are account generators real?
No. There is no tool that creates leveled Riot accounts. Generator sites make money from surveys, app installs and the personal data you enter.
Is the PBE the same as a free smurf?
The PBE is Riot’s test server. You can play there for free, but progress does not carry over to live regions and there is no live ranked play.
Can a free account get banned?
Yes. Botted accounts are banned in waves, and shared accounts can be recovered by the original owner. An account you create and level yourself carries none of those risks.
Is it against Riot’s rules to use someone else’s account?
Yes. Riot’s Terms of Service do not allow sharing, trading or selling accounts, whether the account was free or paid.
