Oktoberfest Gragas

First time I saw Oktoberfest Gragas loading in, I thought someone on my team was trolling. Big dude in lederhosen holding a beer stein instead of a barrel. Then the game started and the VFX hit different. Been running this skin on and off since season 3 and honestly its one of those skins that just never gets old no matter how many times you lock in Gragas.

What actually changes with Oktoberfest Gragas

So this is a 975 RP Standard tier skin, which means you’re not getting a full model overhaul or new voice lines. Voice stays default. But Riot did something smart here. They gave Gragas a complete Bavarian makeover with the outfit, lederhosen and suspenders, big ol’ hat, and swapped his barrel for a beer keg. The keg detail is what sells the whole fantasy.

The new VFX are where this skin earns its price. His Q rolls out a foaming beer keg instead of a barrel. Watching it sit in the river during a teamfight and then pop is genuinely funny every single time. His W has him chugging from a stein, which honestly fits Gragas’s kit so naturally you forget it’s a skin-specific animation. Not gonna lie, the recall animation is the highlight for me. He sits down, pulls out a massive pretzel, and just vibes. Played maybe 150 games with this skin last season and I still watch the full recall when I back after a successful gank.

E bodyslam looks mostly the same but the model change makes it feel more impactful somehow. Could be wrong here but I think the hitbox reads cleaner with the wider outfit silhouette. R is still barrel toss visually but the keg shape sells the Oktoberfest theme hard. In lane specifically, throwing R into the enemy mid from fog and watching them panic never gets old.

The Wonders of the World line and release context

Oktoberfest Gragas dropped September 21, 2012. Pre-season 3 era. Part of the Wonders of the World skinline which is one of Riot’s more creative thematic groups. The idea is real world cultural landmarks and events translated into Runeterra. Gragas at Oktoberfest just makes too much sense. Dude’s entire personality is drinking.

No splash artist credited in the data for this one, which tracks for older skins from that era. The splash itself is solid though. Gragas sitting at a wooden table surrounded by empty steins with that grin on his face. (Random aside: I used this splash as my Discord avatar for like eight months in season 10 and nobody questioned it.) The Wonders of the World line doesnt get enough love from Riot. They haven’t added to it in ages which is a shame because the concept has legs.

No chromas available for Oktoberfest Gragas. Zero. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity because you could easily do color variants on the lederhosen or swap the stein design. But this was 2012, chromas weren’t a thing yet, and Riot apparently never circled back.

Should you pick up Oktoberfest Gragas

Real verdict: this is the best Gragas skin for players who want personality without going full meme. Gragas Caskbreaker and Space Groove exist for the flashier crowd, but Oktoberfest hits a sweet spot. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on Q and the recall animation alone justify it. Still in the shop too, no vault nonsense.

Been spamming Gragas in Diamond for jungle clear optimization this split and I keep coming back to Oktoberfest over his newer options. The VFX are clean, the model reads well in teamfights, and the theme is timeless. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I had a game where I body slammed their Kai’Sa into my team at dragon pit and the kill screen with lederhosen Gragas just sent the whole lobby. Three people added me after that game.

If you main Gragas or even play him as a pocket pick in jungle or mid, this is worth the 975 RP. Skip it if you already own Space Groove since that one technically offers more for the price bump. But for pure charm and personality on the Rift, Oktoberfest is the Gragas skin if you can only own one. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion feels to play.
