All Mythic Skins in League of Legends
Mythic skins sit in this weird space where you cant just buy them outright and thats kind of the whole point. These are the skins Riot gates behind Mythic Essence, event passes, prestige points, or the old Hextech crafting grind. 160 of them exist across 97 champions right now. Not a small pool. But actually getting the one you want? Different conversation entirely. Been collecting these since the original Hextech Annie days and the system has changed so many times I lost count. The flex of locking in a Mythic skin in champ select is real though. Your whole team notices.

What You Actually Get at Mythic Tier
Kinda feels like Mythic tier exists more for the acquisition method than the skin quality itself. Real talk though: most Mythic skins sit somewhere between Epic and Legendary in terms of actual in-game features. You get new VFX on about 145 out of the 160 skins in the tier. New recall animations on 143 of them. But new voice lines? Only 8 skins in the entire Mythic pool have those. That gap matters more than people think.
The model work is generally clean. Prestige skins especially tend to be recolored versions of their base Epic counterpart with upgraded particle effects, gold or white color schemes, and sometimes reworked ability animations. Hextech skins from the older era (think Hextech Annie, Hextech Alistar) went a different direction with the blue crystalline aesthetic across the entire champion model. Both approaches look good on the Rift but neither hits the "feels like a different champion" mark that Legendary does.
Not gonna lie, the recall animations are where Mythic skins quietly shine. Riot puts extra attention into these because they know you're showing off in lane. Seen plenty of players in my Diamond games just spam recall to flex the animation. Fair enough honestly.
(sidebar: I still think Hextech recalls are underrated compared to Prestige ones, the crystalline shatter effect just hits different)
Compare this to Epic tier and the gap is smaller than the acquisition difficulty suggests. An Epic skin at 1350 RP gives you new VFX, new recall, new model. Mythic gives you roughly the same package but with shinier particles and the exclusivity factor. Compare to Legendary and you're clearly a step below since Legendary brings new voice lines, new animations across the board, and sometimes new idle poses. Mythic lives in that in-between space. The skin itself is maybe a 7 out of 10 on features. The clout of owning it pushes the perceived value to a 9.
One thing I noticed around season 13 or so, Riot started bumping up the VFX quality on newer Mythic skins. The Prestige editions from 2024 onward look noticeably better than the 2020 batch. Ability particles are crisper, color grading is more intentional. Progress is real.
Best Mythic Skins Worth Chasing
Hextech Annie started this whole tier and honestly still holds up. The blue flame VFX on Tibbers, the crystalline model, the recall where she assembles the bear from hex-shards. Released way back when Hextech crafting was new and people were rerolling skin shards like crazy trying to get it. Played against one last Tuesday and it still looks clean in teamfights. Annie mains who have this one never switch off it from what I've seen.
Prestige Coven LeBlanc is probably the best executed Prestige skin in the game. Could be wrong here but I think the gold and black color scheme works better than the base Coven version. The Q mark and chain VFX read clearly in lane which matters when you're trying to burst the backline. LeBlanc one-tricks I run into in ranked almost always have either this or the base Coven equipped. Strong pick.
Prestige Empyrean Kayle surprised me. Took it into about 30 games after picking it up from the Mythic shop rotation last March. The ascended form at level 16 with the Prestige coloring is genuinely one of the best scaling visual payoffs in the game. You spend 15 minutes farming and then your champion literally transforms into this golden angel. Fits the late-game fantasy perfectly.
Prestige Spirit Blossom Master Yi is the go-to for Yi mains and I dont think its close. The Alpha Strike VFX with the petal effects, the Meditate glow, even the basic attack trail looks premium. Spammed this in Diamond during the Spirit Blossom event and the skin just feels smooth. Placebo? Maybe. But it feels like your autos connect faster.
Hextech Alistar rounds out my top five. Chunky model, solid engage VFX on the headbutt-pulverize combo, and the recall is hilarious. Not the flashiest but for support mains who want something rare its a solid lock-in. Seen maybe 4 of these total in my games across multiple seasons.
Price and Value: The Mythic Skin Economy
Here's where it gets complicated. Mythic skins don't have a flat RP price. You cant just open the shop and buy one for 1350 or 1820. The currency has shifted multiple times over the years. Originally Hextech skins needed 10 gemstones which took months of play or hundreds of dollars in chest purchases. Then Riot moved to Mythic Essence. Then event passes with prestige points. The whole system keeps rotating.
Might be overthinking it but the real cost of a Mythic skin works out to somewhere around $15-25 if you're grinding an event pass efficiently. Maybe $30-40 if you're buying Mythic Essence through chest purchases without a pass. Compare that to a Legendary at 1820 RP (roughly $14) and Mythic skins are usually more expensive for fewer in-game features. You're paying for exclusivity.
The value proposition is honestly backwards from a pure gameplay perspective. An Epic skin at 1350 RP gives you 90% of what a Mythic offers visually. A Legendary gives you more for less money. But nobody buys Mythic skins for the rational cost-per-feature breakdown. Not sure if it's just me but the whole point is that not everyone has them.
Sales on Mythic skins basically don't exist in the traditional sense. They rotate through the Mythic shop at set Mythic Essence prices. Sometimes Riot runs "unvaulted" events where older Hextech and Prestige skins become available again. Thats your window. If you see the one you want in the rotation, grab it. Waiting for a discount that probably wont come is a losing strategy here.
(random aside: I spent like 200 Mythic Essence on an emote once by accident and I'm still not over it, three months of grinding gone)
Who Should Actually Chase Mythic Skins
Collectors. Full stop. If you're the type of player who needs every skin for your main champion, Mythic tier is where your wallet goes to suffer. One-tricks who have already bought every available skin for their champion end up here by default.
Casual players should honestly skip this tier entirely. The effort-to-reward ratio doesnt make sense unless the specific champion is your ride-or-die pick. If you play 15 different champions in rotation you'll never appreciate a single Mythic skin enough to justify the grind.
For ranked climbers focused on one or two champions, maybe pick up one Mythic skin for your main if it shows up in the shop rotation. The confidence boost of loading in with a rare skin is real even if its psychologically questionable. Had a stretch in Diamond last season around November where I was running Prestige skins exclusively and went on a 12-game win streak. Correlation not causation but still.
Budget advice: if you have 100 Mythic Essence saved up, spend it on a skin for a champion you actually play in ranked. Not the coolest looking one. Not the rarest one. The one for the champion you lock in 3 out of every 5 games. Trust me on this, bought a Hextech skin for a champion I played twice and havent touched it since.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Mythic skins are in LoL?
There's 160 Mythic skins in League right now spread across 97 champions. That number keeps growing with each event pass and Mythic shop rotation. Riot adds new Prestige editions pretty regularly, usually tied to major skin lines like Coven or Spirit Blossom. Been tracking it since season 10 and the pool roughly doubles every couple years.
How much do Mythic skins cost?
Mythic skins dont have a standard RP price. You acquire them through Mythic Essence (typically 100-150 ME per skin), event passes with prestige points, or the old gemstone system. Real money cost works out to roughly $15-40 depending on how you earn the currency. Grinding an event pass is the cheapest route if you play enough games.
What features do Mythic skins have?
Most Mythic skins include new VFX, a new recall animation, and an upgraded champion model. About 145 out of 160 have new ability particles. Only 8 have new voice lines though, so dont expect Legendary-level changes. Think of them as premium Epics with exclusive access. The visual quality has improved a lot on newer releases.
Are Mythic skins worth the price?
Depends on why you're buying. For pure skin quality per dollar, Legendary tier is better value. Mythic skins are about exclusivity and the flex factor. If you main a specific champion and want something rare for champ select, worth it. If you're just looking for cool VFX on a budget, an Epic skin does the job for less. Mains only in my opinion.
What is the best Mythic skin?
Prestige Coven LeBlanc is my pick for best overall Mythic skin. Clean VFX, the gold palette works perfectly, and the ability effects read clearly in lane. Hextech Annie is the OG classic that still holds up. Prestige Empyrean Kayle wins if you value the level 16 transformation payoff. All three are S-tier for their respective mains.
Do Mythic skins go on sale?
Not in the traditional sense. No 50% off sales like regular skins. Mythic skins rotate through the Mythic shop at fixed Mythic Essence prices. Occasionally Riot runs unvaulting events where retired Prestige and Hextech skins return to the shop temporarily. Thats your best shot at grabbing older ones you missed. Keep an eye on patch notes for rotation announcements.
What is the difference between Mythic and Legendary skins?
Legendary skins at 1820 RP give you new voice lines, new animations, new VFX, basically a new champion experience. Mythic skins have upgraded VFX and models but rarely include new voice work. Only 8 Mythics have new VO. The tradeoff is exclusivity: Legendaries anyone can buy, Mythics require grinding or specific event participation. Different appeal entirely.
How do I get Mythic skins?
Three main routes. First, the Mythic shop rotation where you spend Mythic Essence. Second, event passes that award prestige points for new Prestige skins during their release event. Third, Hextech crafting if you get lucky with rerolls. The Mythic shop rotates every few patches so check it regularly. Event passes are the most reliable path if you play consistently.
