Shadow Evelynn

Been maining Evelynn on and off since season 4 and Shadow Evelynn is one of those skins that just sticks around in your collection. Not because its flashy. Not because it reinvents the champion. It sticks because it was there from the start, back when Evelynn looked completely different and the game was barely a year old. Released November 20, 2009, this is old League history right here. Kinda feels like wearing a vintage jersey into ranked.

What Shadow Evelynn actually changes

At 520 RP this is a Standard tier skin, so temper expectations. You get a darker color palette on Evelynn, leaning into purples and deeper shadow tones compared to her base model. The silhouette reads cleaner in certain lighting on the Rift, especially around river and jungle camps where the darker textures blend with the environment. Could be wrong here but I think it actually makes her stealth feel more thematic, even if mechanically nothing changes.

There’s updated VFX here which is surprising for a skin this cheap and this old. The Q poke and E proc animations carry a slightly different color shift. Nothing dramatic but noticeable after 30+ games. The recall animation got a refresh too. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected at this price point.

Played maybe 200 games with this skin across multiple seasons and the thing that keeps me coming back is how clean the auto-attack animations feel. Pre-6 ganking with Shadow Evelynn in the bot lane specifically, the darker model just reads better against the lane environment. Small thing but it matters when youre trying to position for a charm engage on an ADC who’s pushing up.

The Death Sworn line and release context

Shadow Evelynn sits under the Death Sworn skinline. Interesting placement honestly. The Death Sworn theme usually goes harder on the ghostly spectral vibe, and Shadow Evelynn captures that energy even as one of the earliest entries. Sangsoo Jeong handled the artwork and the splash holds up better than you’d expect for a 2009 skin. (Random aside: the original splash before the Evelynn rework was genuinely terrifying in a low-res kind of way.)

No chromas on this one. Zero. Which makes sense given the price and the era it came from. Shop has it permanently so you can grab it whenever. 520 RP is basically nothing, less than a lunch. Real talk though, for a skin from season 0 it punches above what you’d expect.

Should you pick up Shadow Evelynn?

Straight talk: if you main Evelynn and want variety in your skin rotation, Shadow Evelynn earns its spot. Not gonna compete with K/DA or Coven for spectacle. Thats not the point. This is the skin you lock in when you want something clean and understated. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I was grinding ranked and someone in champ select actually commented on it, said they hadnt seen Shadow Evelynn in months. Felt like a flex honestly.

520 RP feels fair for what you get. Skip it if you only care about legendary-tier production value. But for Evelynn mains who want the full collection or just appreciate the classic look, its a solid pickup. I think the darker palette genuinely reads better in teamfights than base Evelynn, and for jungle clear sessions the VFX tweaks keep things fresh enough. Not the best Evelynn skin full stop, but a respectable one that’s earned its place in rotation.
