Played a game last night around midnight and someone on the enemy team locked in Outback Renekton. Hadnt seen one in ranked for months, maybe longer. The skin just has this energy to it that screams early League, back when Riot was throwing out concepts like “what if the crocodile was Australian” and nobody questioned it. Honestly not gonna lie, theres something charming about that.
What Outback Renekton actually looks like
This is a Standard tier skin through and through. You get a model swap and thats about it. Renekton trades his usual armor for a brown leather vest, a wide-brim hat, and what looks like crocodile hunter gear. The blade becomes this big machete-looking thing. No new VFX. Base voice lines, no changes. No recall animation either.
The color palette shifts to earthy browns and tans. In lane it reads pretty clean against the Rift greens, actually. Your Q still looks the same, your W stun animation is identical, E dash particles unchanged. When you ult and Renekton grows in size the outfit scales up and the hat stays on, which I think is the best part. Big angry crocodile in a cowboy hat diving the backline. Comedy gold.
Not sure if it’s just me but the auto attack animations feel snappier with this skin. Probably placebo. Been running Renekton top on and off since season 4 and I swear certain skins just feel different even when they mechanically arent. The machete has a slightly different silhouette from his default blade which might be why.
The Wonders of the World line and where this fits
Outback Renekton dropped January 18, 2011. Early season one. Part of the Wonders of the World skinline, which is one of those old Riot thematic groups that never really became a full universe. Just a handful of skins inspired by real world locations and cultures.
520 RP price tag. For context that’s the cheapest non-free tier Riot used to sell at. You’re paying for a model change and nothing else. Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it from the shop whenever you want. Gotta wait for Legacy sales or get lucky with Hextech crafting. (Random aside: I rolled this from a chest back in season 9 I think or 10 dont remember, and it sat in my collection untouched for two years before I actually tried it.)
No chromas available for this one. Zero. Given the age and price point that makes sense. Riot wasnt doing chromas back in 2011.
Should you care about Outback Renekton?
Real verdict: this skin is a novelty pick. Skip it if you want flashy VFX on your Renekton. The Q empowered heal looks identical to base, your W lockdown has no special flair, and the E slice and dice is just default particles in a leather vest.
But if you’re a Renekton main who wants the full collection, or you just appreciate the goofy early League aesthetic, it has value. Could be wrong here but I feel like these old Legacy skins gain a certain status over time. Seen maybe two or three Outback Renektons in my Diamond games all season. That rarity factor is real.
Overpriced? At 520 RP, hard to say anything is overpriced. The problem is availability. You cant just buy it. If it shows up in your Hextech rolls or during a vault opening event, sure, pick it up. But dont go chasing it when skins like Scorched Earth or Pool Party Renekton exist at higher tiers with actual gameplay-feel upgrades. Those give you new particles on your abilities, better teamfight readability, the whole package.
Outback Renekton is a time capsule. A reminder of when League skins were simple model swaps with funny themes. Worth owning for the meme factor and the pre-6 top lane flex of showing up in a crocodile hunter hat. Not worth stressing over if you miss it.
