First game I played with Santa Draven was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Thursday. Locked in Draven, hovered the skin, and my support immediately typed “ho ho ho” in chat. Thats the energy this skin carries. It takes one of the most egotistical champions in League and slaps a full Santa outfit on him, and somehow it works. Not in a serious way. In a “I’m going to style on you with candy cane axes while your team flames in all chat” kind of way.
What Santa Draven actually brings to the Rift
For an Epic skin at 1350 RP, the changes are solid. New VFX across the board. Draven’s Spinning Axes glow with this frosty red and white trail that reads clean in lane. The Q particles specifically pop against darker map sections, which I think helps with tracking axes during teamfights. Could be wrong here but I swear the axes feel slightly different to catch visually, something about the spin animation on the candy canes.
His W gives off little snowflake particles when you activate the speed boost. Subtle but noticeable. The E, Stand Aside, throws out this wave of holiday energy that honestly looks better than half the Legendary skin effects in the game. Bold claim. I’m standing by it.
The ult is where it gets fun. Draven’s R sends out these massive candy cane projectiles across the map and the trail they leave behind has that wintery shimmer. Been playing this in Diamond during December ranked sessions for a few seasons now and sniping someone cross-map with a giant candy cane never gets old. The recall animation is new too. Draven does this whole Santa sack routine, flexing while presents fall around him. Peak Draven personality.
Voice lines stay base though. No new VO, which is expected at this price point. Erik Braa’s original Draven voice still fits the vibe honestly. The base lines are cocky enough that they work with the Santa theme without needing holiday-specific dialogue.
The Snowdown Showdown context
Santa Draven dropped December 12, 2017. Part of the Snowdown Showdown skinline, which Riot used to do every winter before they shifted to Winterblessed. Alvin Lee handled the artwork and the splash is genuinely one of my favorites in Draven’s catalog. The composition captures Draven’s whole personality: standing on a rooftop, Santa hat tilted, axes ready, looking like he’s about to 1v5 Christmas.
(Random aside: I had this splash as my Discord avatar for like three months straight one winter and nobody questioned it.)
The Snowdown line had some bangers. Santa Braum, Snow Day Bard, bunch of good ones. Santa Draven fits right in but stands out because Draven’s character design is just inherently funny in a holiday costume. The mustache plus Santa hat combo is chef’s kiss. No chromas available for this one, which is a bit of a miss. Would have loved a green and gold variant or something.
Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it whenever. Typically shows up around the winter holidays in the shop rotation or you get lucky with Hextech crafting. Been seeing maybe 2 or 3 of these in my games per December, which keeps it feeling somewhat rare during the rest of the year.
Should you pick up Santa Draven?
Real verdict: if you play Draven at all, this is one of the most fun skins in his lineup. Not gonna lie, it doesn’t compete with something like Fright Night Draven on a pure visual spectacle level. But the personality factor is through the roof. Spamming this during the holiday season in ranked while you’re hard carrying bot lane is a specific kind of joy that other Draven skins dont deliver.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX, new recall, strong splash, and the thematic commitment is there. The candy cane axes alone sell it. If you’re an ADC main who plays Draven in your comp rotation, this is worth picking up next time it cycles out of the Legacy pool. For one-tricks especially, having a seasonal skin in your collection just hits different when December rolls around. Not the best Draven skin full stop, but easily top three for pure fun factor. Might be overthinking it but I think skins that make you smile mid-game actually help you play better. Fewer tilt moments when you’re chucking candy canes at the enemy backline during a late-game teamfight.
