PROJECT: Renekton

First game I played with PROJECT: Renekton was around 1 AM on a Tuesday, picked it up the second it hit the shop. The loading screen alone had me sold. Renekton as a cybernetic killing machine with glowing blade edges and a full mech suit – kinda feels like Riot took the crocodile and dropped him into a Blade Runner set. Banger concept. Been maining Renekton with this skin since season 11 and honestly I keep coming back to it over every other option in his lineup.

What PROJECT: Renekton actually brings to the table

This is a full Legendary at 1820 RP, so you get the complete package. New model, new VFX on every ability, new voice lines, new recall, new animations. The blade is the star here. Renekton’s Q sweeps out this wide arc of orange-red energy that reads clean in teamfights. You can actually track the hitbox better than on base, which sounds minor but matters when you’re trying to hit backline targets through a minion wave.

W is where it gets interesting. The empowered W stun locks down with this satisfying mech crunch effect, sparks flying everywhere. Played maybe 150 games with this skin and the W feedback never gets old. His E dash leaves behind these digital particle trails, two clean slashes of light that fade fast. Not overdone.

The ult though. Real talk. When you pop Dominus, Renekton’s mech frame expands, the energy field pulses out in this neon grid pattern. Pre-6 hes already imposing but post-ult the model size increase combined with the PROJECT VFX makes you feel like an actual raid boss walking into lane. I’ve had games where I ulted in dragon pit and their Jinx literally flashed out before I even hit her. The visual pressure is real.

Recall animation has Renekton interfacing with some kind of PROJECT terminal, his blade retracting into the arm piece. Clean and quick, doesn’t overstay its welcome. Patrick Seitz on the voice lines, they gave him a robotic filter that sits just right. Not too processed, you can still hear the aggression underneath. Voice lines reference the PROJECT lore, mentions of being augmented, losing his humanity. Fits the theme.

The PROJECT line and where Renekton lands

PROJECT dropped May 27, 2021 for Renekton specifically. Late season 11, right around the time everyone was spamming him top. Yan Kyohara and West Studio handled the splash, and they cooked. The splash captures this mid-leap pose with the blade extended, city lights behind him. My phone wallpaper for like three months (random aside: I rotate between this and the Blackfrost Anivia splash, cant decide which goes harder).

The PROJECT skinline is one of Riot’s biggest. Vayne, Yasuo, Yi, Fiora, Ekko – the roster runs deep. Renekton fits naturally into the cyberpunk aesthetic because his base design already has that armored warrior vibe. Not sure if it’s just me but I think PROJECT: Renekton is one of the stronger entries in the line. The color palette works better than some of the older PROJECT skins that leaned too heavy into the purple and teal.

6 chromas total if you want to switch it up. Reckoning is the standout for me, that burnt orange against dark teal hits different in game. Tanzanite goes full purple mech fantasy which reads well on the Rift. Catseye is the gold option, feels a bit too flashy for my taste but I’ve seen a few Renekton one-tricks running it in Diamond lobbies this season.

Is PROJECT: Renekton worth 1820 RP?

Straight talk: this is the best Renekton skin if you can only own one. Full Legendary price, earns it. The new VO alone separates it from the Epic tier skins in his catalog. Scorched Earth and Pool Party are fine but they dont touch this in terms of the complete package. You get ability VFX that actually improve gameplay readability, a voice that sells the fantasy, and a model that commands attention in lane.

Could be wrong here but I think this ages better than most Legendaries from 2021 too. The PROJECT aesthetic is timeless in a way that some of the more niche skinlines aren’t. Still in the shop, no vault rotation worries.

If you’re a Renekton main climbing through ranked, this is the lock-in. Been spamming this in Diamond for five splits now. The skin just performs. Even in losing lanes where I’m getting poked out by some Jayce player, at least I look good doing it. That ranked game last week where my jungler forgot top existed for 15 minutes – still felt clean pressing R and diving their comp 1v2 with the PROJECT VFX popping off.

Skip it only if you genuinely never play Renekton. For anyone who touches the croc even semi-regularly, 1820 RP well spent. S-tier Renekton cosmetic. Might be overthinking it but I’d put this top 10 Legendary skins in the game overall, not just within the champion pool.
