First game I played with Infernal Kennen was around 3 AM on a Saturday, season 10 ranked grind. Locked it in top lane against a Darius and honestly the skin just made me play more aggressive than I should have. Something about running at people while literally on fire hits different. Been maining Kennen on and off since season 7, and this skin immediately became part of my rotation. Not gonna lie, the base Kennen model aged rough, so any visual upgrade feels massive.
What Infernal Kennen actually changes
The VFX overhaul is the main selling point here. Kennen’s Q throws a flaming shuriken instead of the standard electric one, and the trail it leaves reads way cleaner against the Rift’s green tones. Easier to track in lane, easier to land poke. W passive proc lights up with this orange-red pulse that looks satisfying every time you go for a trade.
E is where I think the skin shines hardest. Lightning Rush turns into a full fire dash, leaving scorch marks on the ground. In teamfights when you’re diving into the backline with E into R, the visual chaos actually works in your favor. Enemies panic more when a flaming yordle is sprinting at them. Could be wrong here but I swear my engage success rate went up with this skin.
The R is solid. Slicing Maelstrom drops fire instead of lightning, and the zone indicator has this lava-glow effect that makes it obvious where the damage area is. Helpful for your team’s peel and follow-up. The recall animation is new too, Kennen summons a fire pillar and rides it up. Clean. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected at this price point.
(Random sidebar: I use the Infernal Kennen splash as my Discord profile pic and people keep asking if its a custom art piece. West Studio went hard on the splash.)
The Infernal line and release context
Infernal Kennen dropped July 16, 2020. Mid-season 10. The Infernal skinline is one of Riot’s oldest thematic lines and honestly one of the most consistent. Infernal Nasus, Infernal Diana, Infernal Varus, they all share that molten lava aesthetic but each champion gets their own take on it. Kennen fits the theme naturally because his kit is already about energy and storms, so swapping lightning for fire doesnt feel forced at all.
West Studio handled the artwork. The splash captures the vibe perfectly, Kennen mid-dash surrounded by volcanic debris, looking like a threat despite being the smallest champion on the Rift. Art team knew what they were doing.
6 chromas total. Amethyst is my go-to because the purple flames against the dark model just look premium, feels like a completely different skin tier. Rainbow is the meme pick but it actually reads well in game, the pastel fire effect is surprisingly clean. Ruby deepens the red tones if you want to lean harder into the infernal fantasy. The rest are fine but those three carry.
Is Infernal Kennen worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, new recall, cohesive theme. You’re not getting new voice lines or a model that transforms, but thats standard at this tier. Compared to Arctic Ops Kennen which was the previous “premium” option, Infernal reads better in modern League. The particle effects are sharper and the color palette pops harder.
Kinda feels like Kennen mains dont have a ton of amazing options. Blood Moon is clean but subdued. Super Kennen is a novelty pick. Infernal sits at the top for me after maybe 150 games across Diamond ranked and normals last two seasons. If you play Kennen in any capacity, top lane or support cheese, this is the skin. Permanent shop, grab it whenever. The Amethyst chroma on top makes it S-tier for the price.
Skip it only if you’re waiting for Astronaut Kennen to go on sale. Otherwise this is the Kennen skin if you can only own one.
