Galio getting an Infernal skin felt long overdue. He’s a giant stone gargoyle built to be set on fire – it writes itself as a concept. First time I saw Infernal Galio sitting in the mid lane opponent slot during my Diamond promos, I had that moment where the actual gameplan almost slips your mind. The fire effects carry this skin hard. Not sure if it’s just me but Infernal Galio might be the best Galio skin for teamfight reads on the Rift – you can always track exactly where he lands.
What the fire actually changes on Galio
The VFX overhaul is where this Epic skin earns its tag. His Q – Winds of War – becomes actual fire cyclones during the lane poke phase, reads completely differently from the standard blue swirl. Clean visual upgrade. The E – Justice Punch – has trailing fire on the dash, and I noticed it actually helps with hitbox reads from the enemy side too. Not that I care about that when I’m the one punching someone into my backline.
The W – Shield of Durand – is the standout moment. Fire builds around Galio during that taunt channel, and the visual build-up adds genuine menace to the whole animation. Been running this skin in my mid Galio games since late 2019 and the W animation still holds up. (random aside: the sound the taunt makes when someone walks into it is so satisfying I’ve replayed clips of it probably 40 times over the years)
His ult – Hero’s Entrance – is the showstopper. Full flame explosion on impact. Big teamfight engages look even bigger with this on, and for a champion that lives and dies by ult timing, that visual clarity during fights matters. Custom recall too: Galio poses wrapped in fire. Simple, fits the Infernal theme without overcomplicating it.
No new VO. Voice lines stay base – Josh Petersdorf’s deep delivery works fine without new lines. Doesnt hurt the skin at all, honestly.
Release, West Studio, and the Infernal line
Infernal Galio dropped September 5, 2019, patch 9.17 cycle. West Studio painted the splash piece – Galio mid-roar, fire pouring off every joint, scorched landscape in the background. Banger splash.
The Infernal skinline was already stacked by then: Nasus, Akali, Amumu had all gone through the flame treatment. Galio fits in naturally because his stone silhouette catching fire reads instantly during teamfights, no visual confusion when you need to call your ult timing from across the map. Shop has it, permanent availability.
5 chromas if you want to customize. Ruby hits deep volcanic reds and honestly reads cleaner than the base orange – that one surprised me when I first previewed it. Peridot goes green-flame, sounds odd but works better in motion than the static preview suggests. Catseye does yellow-gold, which is my personal least favorite of the five. Pearl and Rose Quartz round out the set if you want something lighter and more neutral.
Worth 1350 RP for Galio mains?
Real verdict: if you main Galio, this is the skin. The W taunt VFX alone justifies the Epic label – theres genuine gameplay feedback baked into the visual changes, not just a coat of paint. New recall, full VFX refresh, 5 chromas available. 1350 RP feels fair for the full package.
If you’re one-tricking Galio this season, lock in Infernal and grab the Ruby chroma. If you’re a casual player who takes him into specific comps and nothing else, maybe wait for a sale and pick it up then. But for mains climbing on Galio, this is your skin full stop.
