Beezahar

First time I saw this skin pop up in champ select I thought someone was trolling. A bee Malzahar. Played against it in a Diamond ranked game around 1 AM on a Wednesday, and the Malzahar was absolutely dumpstering our mid. Something about watching a giant bee summon voidlings shaped like little bees while your team gets wiped in a teamfight. Couldn’t even be mad. Locked it in the next day.

What the Bees! line does to Malzahar

So the whole kit gets the bee treatment and honestly its more cohesive than you’d expect from a meme skin. The Q sends out two waves of honey-colored energy that converge. Clean read, no visual clutter. Feels like poke that actually communicates where the hitbox is better than some of his other skins.

W is where things get ridiculous. Good ridiculous. Your voidlings are now tiny bees. They buzz around, they swarm the wave, they chase down targets. Watching a pack of bee voidlings eat through a cannon minion during lane phase is genuinely funny even after 100+ games. The jungle clear with these little guys following you into raptors if you’re helping your jungler? Comedy.

E puts this honeycomb-style DoT on the target. Yellow and black particles, reads super clean against the Rift. Not gonna lie, the color contrast is better than base Malzahar’s purple-on-purple situation where sometimes you cant tell if space AIDS is still ticking.

The ult. Big beam of honey. Bright gold suppression beam that locks someone down while your bee voidlings swarm them. Trapped their Jinx in dragon pit last season with this and my duo was crying laughing on comms. The recall animation has Malzahar lounging in a honeycomb chair while bees attend to him. Royalty vibes.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP. Kinda feels like they could have added a voice filter with some buzzing undertone but that’s asking a lot for the price point.

The Bees! skinline and release context

Beezahar dropped March 4, 2021. Season 11 if I remember right. Part of the Bees! skinline which is one of Riot’s goofier thematic sets. Bee’Maw, Yuubee, Beezcrank, the whole hive. The line works because it commits fully to the bit.

Foritis Wang and West Studio handled the splash. They nailed it. Malzahar floating in this golden hexagonal void dimension surrounded by massive bees. The composition puts him center frame with the swarm radiating outward. Check their other work, the lighting on this one reads perfectly at thumbnail size which matters for the loading screen.

9 chromas total. That’s a lot for one skin. Obsidian turns the whole thing dark and menacing which completely flips the tone from silly to threatening. Rainbow is the showpiece though, the prismatic wings catch light differently in-game and it stands out in teamfights. Emerald gives it a wasp-adjacent look that I think reads cleaner than base. (Random aside: my friend who one-tricks Malzahar refuses to use anything but the Citrine chroma because “it’s the most accurate bee coloring” and I respect that level of commitment.)

Where Beezahar sits in the Malzahar skin lineup

Real verdict: this is the best Malzahar skin if you want personality. Battle Boss is flashy. Hextech is rare. Snow Day is cozy. But Beezahar has something none of them do. Character.

Been running this in Diamond for maybe 150 games across two seasons and the VFX never get old. The bee voidlings alone justify the price. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animation also feels slightly smoother than base, might be placebo from the cleaner particle colors. Either way the gameplay feel is solid.

The skin works at every stage of the game. Pre-6 laning the E particles read cleanly so you can track your space AIDS spreading through the wave. Late-game teamfights the ult beam is visually distinct enough that your team knows exactly when you’ve locked someone down for the backline dive. Real functional upside on top of the aesthetic.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, new recall, the voidling model swap to bees. For Malzahar mains specifically this is an easy recommend. For people who play him occasionally in comp as a safe mid pick, still worth it. The only scenario where I’d say skip is if you already own Hextech Malzahar and you’re not the type to rotate skins. But even then. Those bees, man. Spammed this for two weeks straight after buying it back in season 11 and keep coming back to it every few months. S-tier Malzahar cosmetic, no question.
