Blood Moon Skins

All 25 skins in the Blood Moon skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Blood Moon skin in League of Legends.

Blood Moon is probably my favorite skinline Riot has ever put together, and I dont say that lightly. The whole Japanese oni and demon mask aesthetic hits different from anything else on the Rift. Been playing since season 3 and I remember when the first Blood Moon skins dropped, thinking Riot finally found a theme they could build an entire universe around. 25 skins deep now across 23 champions, and the line still holds up. Not every skin is a banger, some of the older Standard tier ones show their age, but the core identity of crimson and white with those haunting mask designs? Unmatched.

What Makes Blood Moon Stand Apart

The visual signature is immediately recognizable. White porcelain masks, deep crimson VFX, flowing ceremonial robes. Every Blood Moon skin shares this DNA but Riot gives each champion enough room to make it their own. Kinda feels like the design team actually studied Noh theater and yokai mythology instead of just slapping red particles on existing models.

Color palette stays tight. Red, white, black, occasional gold accents on the higher tier skins. Compare that to something like PROJECT where every champion gets a different neon color and the line feels scattered. Blood Moon knows what it is. Consistency matters when you're building a collection page with 25 skins on it and they all need to feel like they belong together.

The splash arts across the line share this specific atmospheric quality. Dark backgrounds, moonlit scenes, ritual imagery. Could be wrong here but I think the Blood Moon splashes as a group are some of the most cohesive in the entire game. You line them up and they tell a story. Not every skinline can say that.

(Random aside: I used Blood Moon Jhin's splash as my Discord banner for like two years straight and nobody ever asked me to change it. That splash just works.)

VFX wise, the Epic tier skins get the full treatment. Red particle effects on abilities, mask-themed recall animations, and that specific Blood Moon ambient sound design during recall. The Standard tier skins from the earlier releases obviously dont have the same level of polish, but even those older ones carry the aesthetic through model and texture changes alone. The shared VFX language across the Epics is what ties the modern Blood Moon skins into a proper collection rather than just a bunch of red recolors.

Best Blood Moon Skins Worth Locking In

Blood Moon Jhin. Full stop. Not gonna lie, this might be the single best Epic skin in the entire game. The way the mask integrates into his character fantasy, the red-and-white VFX on his Q bounces, the curtain call ult overlay. Played maybe 300 games on this skin across seasons and it never gets old. At 1350 RP its the obvious first pick if you're building a Blood Moon collection.

Blood Moon Diana is the sleeper pick. Her kit translates perfectly into the theme. The crescent blade becomes this ritual weapon, her ult pulls enemies into what looks like a blood ritual circle. Been spamming Diana in ranked this season specifically because the Blood Moon skin makes her jungle clear feel so clean visually. The red trail on her E is chef's kiss.

Blood Moon Thresh deserves a mention for how well the lantern translates. Instead of a lantern its this glowing ritual object. Thresh mains will tell you its one of his best skins and they're right. The hook animation with the Blood Moon VFX reads cleaner in lane than base Thresh, which honestly might be a slight competitive advantage in lower elo where people arent used to the visual.

Prestige Blood Moon Aatrox is the crown jewel of the line. Both versions. The 2022 re-release cleaned up some textures and the golden mask variant hits harder than most Mythic tier skins in the game. Not sure if it's just me but I see more Prestige Blood Moon Aatrox in my Diamond games than any other Prestige skin. Aatrox mains gravitate to it.

Blood Moon Akali rounds out my top five. The shroud with Blood Moon particles, the shuriken flip leaving red trails. Akali's kit is so visually busy that giving it a unified color scheme actually helps readability. Had a game last Thursday where I was teamfighting near dragon pit and the Blood Moon VFX on her R2 dash looked incredible against the dark terrain. Small things like that matter when you're spamming a champion.

The Champion Roster and Who Fits

23 champions. Massive roster for a skinline. Not every pick makes sense thematically though.

The assassin and fighter picks feel natural. Akali, Talon, Katarina, Zed, Yasuo. These champions already have that lone warrior energy that matches Blood Moon's ritualistic demon hunter vibe. Talon specifically looks like he was designed for this skinline, the blade-heavy kit with crimson particles just works.

Shen fits perfectly as the spiritual warrior archetype. His spirit blade becoming a ritual weapon, the stand united ult getting Blood Moon overlay effects. Feels like Riot designed around Shen early in the skinline's life and it shows.

Some picks feel forced though. Real talk, Blood Moon Sivir and Blood Moon Ryze dont carry the same thematic weight. Sivir throwing a boomerang blade doesn't scream "ancient blood ritual" to me. Ryze with red runes is fine but nothing about his base fantasy connects to the oni mask mythology. These feel like Riot needed to pad the roster during a particular release window.

Fiddlesticks is a newer addition and honestly one of the most interesting. Post-rework Fiddlesticks already has that horror energy and wrapping it in Blood Moon aesthetics created something genuinely unsettling. The scarecrow becoming a ritual effigy. Been running Blood Moon Fiddlesticks in the jungle since it dropped and the ult in a teamfight with those red particle explosions is genuinely disorienting for the enemy backline.

Who should get Blood Moon next? Kindred feels like the most obvious miss. Death-themed champion, wolf and lamb duality, already has that spiritual energy. Yone is another obvious candidate given his demon-hunting lore. Maybe just my experience but every time someone asks about Blood Moon on Reddit, Kindred and Yone are the top two requests.

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

14 Epics at 1350 RP. 9 Standards ranging from 750 to 975 RP. 2 Mythics (both Aatrox Prestige variants). No Legendaries in the entire line which is honestly surprising for a skinline this popular.

The Epics carry this line hard. Blood Moon Jhin, Diana, Thresh, Pyke, Akali, Aatrox. These are the skins people actually use in ranked. 1350 RP each which is standard pricing and honestly fair for the quality. The VFX work on the newer Epics especially rivals some Legendary skins from other lines.

Standard tier skins are the older releases. Blood Moon Shen, Akali (original before the rework updated it), Kalista, Elise, Kennen, Zilean. These are 750-975 RP and you can tell they're from an earlier era of skin design. Model and texture changes only, minimal VFX updates. Still look good because the Blood Moon aesthetic is strong enough to carry even basic execution.

No Legendary at 1820 RP is the biggest gap. A Blood Moon Legendary with full new VO, unique animations, and expanded lore would be an instant buy for half the playerbase. Could be coping but I genuinely think Riot is saving a Blood Moon Legendary for a big event. Jhin or Thresh would be the obvious candidates. Maybe Yone if they ever add him to the line.

Price range of 750 to 1350 means you can build a decent Blood Moon collection without destroying your wallet. Compare that to something like Pulsefire where multiple Legendaries push the total cost way up.

Blood Moon Skinline FAQ

How many Blood Moon skins are there?

25 Blood Moon skins total across 23 champions as of 2024. That includes two Prestige Blood Moon Aatrox variants which are Mythic tier. The line has been growing since the early seasons and Riot adds new ones every couple of years. One of the bigger skinlines in the game honestly, up there with PROJECT and Star Guardian in terms of roster size.

What is the best Blood Moon skin?

Blood Moon Jhin is the consensus pick and I agree completely. The mask theme fits his character fantasy perfectly, VFX are clean on every ability, and the splash is iconic. Prestige Blood Moon Aatrox is the best if you can get it, but thats Mythic tier and harder to obtain. For something you can just buy in the shop, Jhin every time.

Which champions have Blood Moon skins?

23 champions including Jhin, Thresh, Akali, Diana, Yasuo, Zed, Pyke, Aatrox, Katarina, Evelynn, Talon, Shen, Elise, and more. Heavy on assassins and fighters which makes sense for the theme. Fiddlesticks and Master Yi are some of the newer additions. The roster covers most roles but leans toward melee champions with that demon warrior fantasy.

Does Blood Moon have Legendary skins?

No Legendary skins in Blood Moon as of now. The highest tier is Mythic with the two Prestige Blood Moon Aatrox variants. The line maxes out at Epic (1350 RP) for regular purchasable skins. Honestly feels like a missed opportunity, a Blood Moon Legendary with new voice lines and animations would probably be one of the best selling skins Riot ever made.

When did the Blood Moon skinline release?

Blood Moon started way back in the early seasons of League. The original batch included Shen and Akali at the Standard tier. The line has been expanding steadily since then with major additions in 2017 (Jhin, Diana, Twisted Fate) and continued releases through 2024. One of the longest running skinlines in the game.

Are Blood Moon skins worth buying?

The Epic tier Blood Moon skins are absolutely worth it. Jhin, Diana, Thresh, Pyke, and Aatrox all deliver at 1350 RP. The Standard tier skins at 750-975 RP are fine for collectors but show their age. I'd say grab the Epic for your main champion first and fill in the Standards later if you're going for the full collection. Good value overall for a skinline.

Do Blood Moon skins have chromas?

Some of the newer Blood Moon Epics have chromas available. The older Standard tier skins dont. Chromas on Blood Moon skins tend to mess with the red and white color identity which is kinda the whole point of the line. I'd stick with base colors personally but if you want variety, the darker chromas like Obsidian tend to work better than the bright ones.

Will Riot make more Blood Moon skins?

Almost certainly. Blood Moon is one of Riot's most popular skinlines and they've been adding to it consistently for years. The community regularly requests Blood Moon skins for champions like Kindred, Yone, and Viego. Take this with a grain of salt but based on the pattern of releases, I'd expect another Blood Moon batch within the next year or two. The line is too profitable to abandon.
