First time I saw Primetime Draven in a loading screen I thought someone was trolling. A sports commentator Draven. Suit, microphone, the whole broadcast setup. Played maybe 30 games against it before I bought it myself, and honestly not gonna lie, this skin grew on me harder than anything else in his lineup. The entire concept is so far removed from what you’d expect on the Rift that it just works.
The broadcast booth hits different in lane
This is a full Legendary skin with new voice lines, new VFX, and a new recall animation. Erik Braa voices Draven across the board but the Primetime VO is something else entirely. Draven narrates his own plays like a sportscaster. Every axe catch, every kill, every ult landing gets commentary. Been running this in Diamond for seasons and the voice lines still make me laugh mid-teamfight. Terrible for focus. Great for vibes.
The Q spinning axes get this bright golden broadcast-style trail. Cleaner than base, actually easier to track in chaotic fights. Could be wrong here but I think the axe landing indicators read better too, something about the color contrast against the Rift floor. The W gives Draven this exaggerated sprint animation that fits the sports theme. Not a huge change but its noticeable when you’re kiting in the bot lane specifically.
His E gets a flashy broadcast effect on the knockback. Nothing groundbreaking but solid. The R though. Global ult with the Primetime VFX looks like a highlight reel play every single time. The axes have this golden energy trail and when they connect, Draven literally commentates the hit. I landed a cross-map ult last Tuesday around 2 AM that killed their ADC at fountain and the voice line that played was perfect. Chef’s kiss moment.
The recall animation has Draven at a commentary desk. He does a little broadcast sign-off. Short and clean. Not the most elaborate recall in the game but it fits the theme without overstaying.
A Legendary for 975 RP and the Day Job skinline
Primetime Draven released June 20, 2014. Season 4. Back when Riot occasionally did these weird promotional Legendaries at reduced price points. This skin launched at 975 RP for a full Legendary package. New VO, new VFX, new recall. That pricing has never made sense to me and I’m not complaining.
Part of the Day Job skinline, which is one of Riot’s smaller thematic sets. The whole concept is champions with regular jobs instead of fantasy roles. Draven as a sports broadcaster fits his personality so naturally that it barely feels like an alternate universe. The Day Job line doesnt get enough love honestly.
5 chromas total. Obsidian goes dark and moody, which clashes with the broadcast energy in a way I actually like. Tanzanite hits this deep purple that reads well against the golden VFX. Catseye keeps things warm and bright. (Random aside: the Sapphire chroma on a sports commentator skin feels like it should be a different network’s color scheme and that thought lives in my head rent free.)
Shop has it. Permanent availability at 975 RP. For a Legendary with full VO that’s genuinely absurd value. Season 9 I think or 10 dont remember exactly, but there was a period where Riot considered repricing older Legendaries and this one somehow survived untouched.
How the abilities feel in ranked
Grinded ranked with this for about three weeks straight last month. The VFX changes on Q are subtle but meaningful for gameplay. Spinning axes feel crisper to catch. Not sure if it’s just me but the audio cue on axe catch with the commentator voice actually helps my rhythm. Like a metronome for cs patterns in lane.
Teamfight readability is fine. The golden effects don’t blend into most ability spam. Playing against a Brand or Lux you can still track your axes. One thing that bugs me slightly: the W speed boost animation can look a bit stiff compared to newer Legendary skins. This is a 2014 skin and the animation rig shows its age in spots. Minor complaint.
The voice lines carry this skin hard. Draven already has one of the best personalities in the game and giving him a microphone was a perfect call. He comments on kills, on deaths, on everything. Been maining Draven with this in my last 23 games and I still catch new lines I havent heard before. Erik Braa put in work here and it shows.
Should you buy Primetime Draven?
Real verdict: this is the best value Legendary in the entire game. 975 RP for new voice lines, new VFX, new recall. That’s Epic skin pricing for Legendary tier content. The Day Job theme might not be for everyone. If you want edgy or flashy, Fright Night Draven or La Ilusión exist. But if you want personality, if you want a skin that makes you smile every game, Primetime is it.
Kinda feels like Riot accidentally underpriced this and just never corrected it. Worth 975 RP if you main Draven. Worth it even if you don’t. The voice lines alone justify the purchase. I’ve seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season which is criminal for how good it is. Top pick for Draven mains who value character over pure visual spectacle. Lock it in.
