Olaf as a heavy metal performer just makes sense. Viking berserker energy translates to stage chaos without any creative gymnastics required. Pentakill III: Lost Chapter Olaf dropped September 9, 2021 as part of the Pentakill III: The Lost Chapter skinline, and it lands as one of the stronger placements in the whole release batch. Been running this in Diamond ranked since it launched – the 1350 RP Epic tier price buys you a real visual identity shift, not a glorified chroma.
What actually changes in-game
The VFX package is the core of this Epic. Olaf’s Q axe arc now pulses with a stage-light slash effect, electric guitar crunch energy layered over the standard steel-and-bone throw. Tracks clean in lane prio situations where you need to read the landing zone mid-gank. His E, Reckless Swing, hits with a distorted feedback visual that I wasnt expecting to care about – but in teamfights it reads consistently without blending into the Rift terrain. Real improvement over a lot of Epic skins that just add noise without clarity.
The recall is the standout. Full concert performance sequence. Actual banger. Stood in the fountain one game last November watching it loop while my jungle Hecarim pinged me three times – still didn’t cancel it. The recall alone carries a large portion of the 1350 RP ask for anyone who doesn’t autopilot B-key interactions.
No new VO. Voice lines stay base, which is the one area I’d ding this skin. Olaf’s base voice pack is solid so it doesn’t tank the experience, but a Pentakill filter or some custom metal shouts would have elevated this from “great Epic” to near-Legendary territory. Hard to complain too much at this price point though.
Pentakill III: The Lost Chapter – skinline context
The Lost Chapter concept drops the Pentakill band into a dark fantasy concert setting. Less arena pop, more ritual performance on an ancient stage. Olaf fits as the unhinged axe-wielding presence – he doesn’t need reinvention, just a costume change and better lighting.
Terence ‘Terrylefruit’ Cantal and West Studio put in the work here on the splash. They cooked – the composition puts Olaf mid-charge with stage lighting behind him and it reads just as well at tile size as it does full screen. (random aside: the full band splash from this set has been sitting on my second monitor since September 2021 and I have not replaced it)
Released on patch 11.18, right when players were grinding the final ranked push of the season. Saw maybe eight of these in Diamond elo that first month, decent visibility for a non-Legendary at launch.
Chromas
8 chromas total on this skin. Tanzanite runs a deep purple that holds up on the Rift without blending into the map – that’s my go-to for ranked, it reads as deliberately different rather than default. Obsidian flips the palette near-black, cleaner silhouette for players who prefer minimal color flash when diving the backline. Catseye goes yellow-gold and honestly pops hard in teamfights, maybe too hard if you’re ganking bot and don’t want the enemy support tracking you through fog.
The other five cover the standard spread. Ruby works, Aquamarine works. Nothing about them surprises you in the best or worst direction.
Should you buy Pentakill III: Lost Chapter Olaf at 1350 RP?
Straight talk: for Olaf mains, yes. The VFX upgrade makes early dive patterns feel more impactful, the Q readability stays clean despite the new effects, and the recall is the kind of thing you actually stop to watch. Shop has it permanently – grab it anytime. No urgency, no vaulting threat.
Maybe just my experience but this plays better in jungle than top. The concert stage aesthetic clicks harder when you’re smashing into the backline from an unexpected angle than when you’re trading in a static lane for 15 minutes. Skip if you’re already locked into Dragonslayer Olaf and the aesthetic doesn’t interest you. Otherwise, 1350 RP well spent for anyone starting fresh on Olaf cosmetics.
