Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank

First time I saw Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank load in, I thought someone modded a Dark Souls boss into my ranked game. The silhouette is completely different from base Blitzcrank. Darker, sharper, and honestly intimidating in a way the Great Steam Golem usually isnt. Played against one last November around midnight and the hook animation genuinely caught me off guard because my brain didnt register it as Blitzcrank for a split second.

The dark knight fantasy on the Rift

Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank trades the goofy robot aesthetic for full medieval dark armor plating. Think corrupted paladin energy. The model is bulky, angular, all black and deep purple tones with sharp edges where base Blitzcrank has curves. Huge difference.

The VFX are where this skin earns its 1350 RP. Q hook comes out with this dark energy trail that reads cleaner than base in teamfights. Not sure if it’s just me but the grab feels more threatening visually, like the particle width looks slightly different even though the hitbox is identical. Could be a placebo thing, could be Riot doing smart visual design. Either way it works.

W overdrive gets dark purple speed particles instead of the default yellow sparks. E uppercut has a satisfying dark slam effect. R static field pulses with that same corrupted purple energy across the area. Been running this in Diamond support games and the ult VFX actually help communicate the zone to teammates better than some of his other skins. Three things stood out: the hook trail, the recall animation, and the overall color palette shift.

The recall is a jousting sequence. Blitzcrank charges forward on a dark horse construct, lance out, full medieval tournament style. Clean animation, fits the Lancer theme perfectly. (Random aside: I set the recall as a clip on my Discord status for like two weeks because the animation is that good.)

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for an Epic tier skin from 2017. Kinda feels like they could have added a voice filter at minimum given how different the visual identity is, but that’s a minor complaint.

Lancer line context and the 2017 drop

Released November 16, 2017. Late season 7. The Lancer skinline dropped two Blitzcrank skins simultaneously: Lancer Rogue and Lancer Paragon. Dark versus light, corrupted versus noble. Riot loves that duality concept.

Jojo So nailed the splash. The composition has Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank mid-charge with the lance forward, dark energy swirling around the armor. Background suggests some kind of ruined battlefield. It reads like a fantasy illustration more than a League splash, which I think works in its favor.

No chromas on this one. Zero. The dark palette is what you get, take it or leave it. Honestly for a skin this visually cohesive I dont think chromas would add much. The purple-black scheme is the identity.

Sits in the Legacy pool now. Vault rotation skin, so you’re either waiting for a Legacy sale event or rolling it from Hextech crafting. Seen maybe 4 of these in my games all season, which tracks for a vault skin from season 7 that most newer players dont know exists.

Should you grab Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank?

Real verdict: this is a top three Blitzcrank skin and most people sleep on it because its locked in the vault. The dark armor redesign is more visually interesting than half the newer Blitzcrank options. Battle Boss is flashier, Space Groove is goofier, but Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank hits a specific fantasy that nothing else in his catalog does.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, new VFX on all abilities, solid recall animation. The only thing holding it back is the lack of new voice lines, but again, 2017 Epic standard. Been maining Blitzcrank with this skin in my support rotation since I rolled it from a chest two seasons ago and I keep coming back to it over his more recent releases.

If you’re a Blitzcrank one-trick who wants something that looks menacing in lane, this is the pick. The dark aesthetic gives your hooks psychological weight. Real talk though, if you prefer the silly robot vibe that Blitzcrank is known for, this skin might feel too serious. Skip it for Beezcrank or Definitely Not in that case. But for ranked games where you want to look like a threat before you even land Q in bot lane – Lancer Rogue is the Blitzcrank skin. Might be overthinking it but I swear people respect the hook more when this skin is loaded in. That ranked game where my ADC was feeding but I kept catching their Jinx with hooks from fog, the all chat reaction was about the skin. Season 8 I think or maybe early 9, dont remember exactly. Point stands.
