First time I saw Blood Moon Diana load in was during a late-night ranked session, maybe around 1 AM, season 7. My support pinged the splash in champ select and I remember thinking Riot finally gave Diana a skin that matched her energy. Not some celestial glow or purple fire. Actual demonic presence. Locked it in the next morning and honestly havent looked back since.
What Blood Moon actually changes on Diana
The model swap is clean. Diana trades her Lunari armor for this deep crimson and white outfit with an oni mask worked into the crescent blade. Kinda feels like they pulled from traditional Japanese theater masks and just let it breathe on the Rift. The color palette is tight: blood red, bone white, black accents. No unnecessary glow or sparkle.
New VFX across the board. Her Q (Crescent Strike) arcs out with this red slash trail that reads way better than base in teamfights. Played maybe 150 games with this skin in Diamond and I can say the Q visual is slightly thinner-looking than default, which some Diana mains swear helps with juking. Could be wrong here but it feels that way. W shield orbs pulse with that Blood Moon red, and when they proc on contact the burst effect is satisfying. Not overdone.
E pull-in gets a subtle crimson flash. Nothing wild but it fits. The ult is where it gets good though. Lunar Rush has this deep red trail behind Diana as she dashes, and the impact on arrival has a quick demon mask flicker. Hard to catch in a fast dive comp but when you notice it, clean. The recall animation is new too: Diana channels some ritual energy, the oni mask materializes, whole thing has that Blood Moon ceremony vibe. Been running this in Diamond for multiple seasons and the recall still hits different after a triple kill.
Voice lines stay base. No new VO. For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP thats expected. Nicole Oliver’s original performance carries enough weight that I dont mind.
The Blood Moon line and where Diana fits
Blood Moon dropped February 9, 2017. Deep into season 7. Pan Chengwei on the splash, they captured the vibe perfectly. That splash has Diana mid-ritual with the crescent blade raised, full oni aesthetic. One of Pan Chengwei’s stronger pieces if you ask me.
The Blood Moon skinline is one of Riot’s most consistent themes. Jhin, Thresh, Akali, Kalista, Talon, Aatrox: the roster is stacked. Diana fits naturally into the demon-hunter mythology. She’s already got that moon cult lore baked into her base kit, so the Blood Moon translation works without forcing anything. Not every champ in the line earns their spot (looking at you, Blood Moon Kennen) but Diana absolutely does.
No chromas on this one. Zero. Which is kind of a shame because I think an Obsidian or Pearl variant would have gone hard. But Riot wasn’t handing out chromas like candy back in 2017 the way they do now. Still in the shop at 1350 RP, permanent availability, so no vault anxiety.
(Random aside: this splash has been my desktop wallpaper on my second monitor for like two years and nobody at work has asked about it yet.)
Is Blood Moon Diana worth 1350 RP?
Real talk though. Diana has a lot of skins now. Dark Cosmic, Sentinel, Firecracker, Heavenscale. The competition is real. But Blood Moon holds up because of restraint. It doesn’t try to be flashy or over-designed. The red and white reads instantly in lane. Your engage is clear, your Q arc is visible, your ult dash pops against the Rift background. For ranked clarity alone it’s top tier.
Not sure if it’s just me but Blood Moon Diana feels smoother to combo with than some of her newer skins. Might be overthinking it but the Q-R-W sequence just flows visually. Last Tuesday I pulled off a four-man ult in dragon pit and the red trails stacking on top of each other looked incredible. My Kayn jungle was losing his mind in voice chat.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, full VFX overhaul, new recall. If you main Diana and you like the darker aesthetic over the cosmic stuff, this is the pick. Spirit Blossom and Dark Cosmic are both strong alternatives but they lean into different fantasies entirely. Blood Moon is for the Diana player who wants to feel like a pre-6 assassin lurking in fog of war, not a celestial being floating through space.
Best Diana skin for players who want function over flash. Skip the prestige skins, skip the chromas on other options. Blood Moon Diana does one thing and does it well: makes you look like a threat the second you lock in. Worth every RP if you’re climbing with her this season.
