First time I saw Beast Hunter Tryndamere in the loading screen I thought someone had modded Tryndamere into Monster Hunter. Not gonna lie, thats exactly the vibe Riot was going for and it works better than you’d expect for a 750 RP skin. Picked it up on a whim back in early 2016 and it stayed in my rotation for a solid chunk of that season.
What Beast Hunter Tryndamere actually brings
So this is a Standard tier skin at 750 RP. You get a new model and texture but no new VFX, no new animations, no recall change. Voice lines stay base. For the price point that’s exactly what I expected. Tryndamere swaps his usual barbarian look for this primal hunter aesthetic, bone armor plating across the chest and shoulders, a massive jawbone-looking blade that honestly reads really well in game.
The fur and leather detailing on the model is solid. Played maybe 40 games with this thing in Diamond and the silhouette stays clean even in chaotic teamfights. You can still tell its Tryndamere spinning through the backline, which matters more than people think. Some skins mess with champion readability and this one doesnt. The blade specifically catches my eye, it’s got this rough carved bone texture that fits the prehistoric hunter fantasy.
No new particles on Q/W/E/R though. Your spinning slash, your ult, your heal, all default VFX. Could be wrong here but I think at 750 RP Riot wasnt doing particle changes back in 2016 for this price bracket. Fair enough. The model work carries the skin on its own.
The Prehistoric Hunters line and release context
Beast Hunter Tryndamere dropped February 4, 2016 as part of the Prehistoric Hunters skinline. Victor ‘3rdColossus’ Maury handled the artwork and the splash is honestly one of his cleaner pieces. Shows Tryndamere mid-hunt in some jungle setting, blade raised, full primal energy. (Random aside: I used this splash as my Discord avatar for like three months before anyone even recognized the champion.)
The Prehistoric Hunters line included Beast Hunter Sejuani and Beast Hunter Draven too. Sejuani’s version got more attention from the community at the time. I think the Tryndamere version flew under the radar because Tryndamere mains were still running Demonblade or Warring Kingdoms. Kinda feels like this skin never got the credit it deserved within the skinline.
No chromas available for Beast Hunter Tryndamere. Zero. Which is a shame because a darker color variant with grey bone and black fur would have been clean. Shop has it permanently so you can grab it whenever.
Should you pick up Beast Hunter Tryndamere?
Real verdict: for 750 RP this skin does exactly what it needs to do. Fresh model, strong thematic, clean in-game read. You’re not getting Legendary treatment here obviously. No new VO, no fancy recall animation, no particle work. But if you’re a Tryndamere main looking to rotate skins between ranked sessions and you want something that isn’t the overplayed Nightbringer or Demonblade, Beast Hunter is a legit option.
Been running this in solo queue specifically when I want to tilt the enemy toplaner with something unexpected. Last season around 1 AM I had an Irelia all-chat me asking what skin that was after I dove her pre-6 and walked out with ult. Small victories. 750 RP feels fair for what you get, nothing groundbreaking but solid execution on a budget skin. Tryndamere one-tricks should have this in the collection. Everyone else, maybe wait for a sale or check if Chemtech or Blood Moon fits your style better first.
