Coven Syndra

First game I loaded into with Coven Syndra, my support pinged my skin three times in fountain. That reaction pretty much sums it up. Syndra fits the Coven aesthetic like she was designed for it from the start, and honestly not gonna lie, I think this might be the skin that finally dethroned Star Guardian in my rotation. The dark sorceress fantasy that Riot builds around Coven just clicks with Syndra’s whole identity as this power-obsessed mage floating above everyone else. Locked this in day one of patch 13.21 and havent looked back.

What Coven Syndra actually brings to the Rift

New VFX across the board. The Q orbs swap from purple energy to this deep crimson and black witchcraft look, thorny and organic. Feels heavier when you land them in lane. W grab has these vine-like tendrils wrapping around the orb before you toss it, small detail but it reads cleanly against the ground textures.

E is where it gets interesting. The cone push has dark red particles that fan out with what looks like moth wings or petals scattering on impact. Solid visual clarity for an ability that can be hard to track in teamfights. Been playing this in Diamond ranked since it dropped and I never feel like my stun is getting lost in the chaos.

The R though. Kinda feels like Syndra is channeling something ancient when she sends the orbs out. Each sphere trails these dark energy wisps that linger for a split second after impact. Not Legendary-tier transformation or anything, but for an Epic skin the VFX package is dense. New recall animation too, Syndra summons this Coven ritual circle and ascends. Clean stuff.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for 1350 RP. The base voice works fine here because Syndra already sounds like she could lead a witch cult anyway.

The Coven line and where Syndra lands

Released October 25, 2023. Francis Tneh and West Studio handled the artwork, and they cooked on this one. The splash captures the Coven vibe perfectly with Syndra surrounded by dark flora and these glowing sigils. Worth zooming in on the details.

The Coven skinline is one of Riot’s strongest thematic sets. Coven Syndra joins a roster that includes Camille, Zyra, Lissandra, and a bunch of others. Could be wrong here but I think Syndra might be the best executed of the recent Coven additions. The color palette just works. Deep reds, blacks, touches of gold on the model. She looks like the leader of the whole coven, which tracks with her lore as someone who takes power from others.

9 chromas total. Profane is the standout for me, that teal and magenta split gives the skin a completely different energy. Amethyst leans into the classic witch purple harder than the base skin does. Meteorite goes earthy and dark, almost muddy in a good way. The rest are solid but those three get the most play from me. (Random aside: the Profane chroma splash would make a sick desktop wallpaper if Riot ever released it standalone.)

Is Coven Syndra worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: if you main Syndra or even have her in your mid lane rotation for ranked, this skin is a no-brainer at 1350 RP. The VFX refresh is meaningful, the thematic fits better than most of her catalog, and the chroma selection gives you options for seasons. Played maybe 200 games with this across season 13 and 14.

Where it falls short is the VO situation. At this price you’re not getting new voice lines, and Syndra has enough skins now that the base voice starts feeling repetitive. But thats an Epic tier limitation, not a Coven Syndra problem specifically. Compared to Withered Rose or Bewitching, the Coven version hits harder on visual impact. Star Guardian is the main competition and that one comes down to personal taste, dark witch versus magical girl.

Still in the shop, 1350 RP. Spammed this in Diamond last season around 3 AM one Tuesday when I couldnt sleep and the Q particles popping in the dark Rift fog actually looked incredible. Worth it for Syndra mains, skip it if you already own Star Guardian and dont care about the dark aesthetic. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get.
