Bewitching Nidalee

First time I saw Bewitching Nidalee load in was back in season 2, maybe season 3. One of those late night ranked sessions around 1 AM where you stop caring about LP and just vibe. The witch hat on a cougar. Ridiculous concept. But it works, and I think thats partly why this skin stuck around in the community’s memory for so long.

What the skin actually changes

For a 975 RP Standard tier skin released in 2011, Bewitching Nidalee punches above its weight class. The human form gets a full witch outfit with the hat, broom staff, and purple-black color palette that screams Halloween. Cougar form trades the usual jungle cat for something darker. Not gonna lie, the cougar transformation still catches people off guard in lane when you pounce out of a bush.

The VFX got touched up which is rare for skins at this price point. Spears have a purple trail to them, and the heal on E has this faint ghostly green tint. Nothing crazy elaborate. Simple change – huge impact on how the skin reads during teamfights. Q spears flying through fog of war with that purple glow actually help your engage reads in Diamond games where everyone tracks projectiles.

Voice lines stay base, no recall animation changes either. Standard Nidalee VO with Roxana Ortega’s performance carrying the audio side. You know what surprised me? The auto attacks in cougar form feel snappier visually even though nothing changed mechanically. Could be wrong here but the darker model against Summoner’s Rift green just makes the animations pop more.

The Bewitching line and where this skin fits

Bewitching Nidalee dropped October 19, 2011. Early League era. Yan Li nailed the splash for this one, capturing that playful-spooky energy Riot was going for with the Bewitching skinline before it became a yearly event tradition.

The Bewitching line has grown massive since then. Janna, Elise, Syndra, Morgana, everyone got the Halloween treatment eventually. But Nidalee was one of the originals. Been maining Nidalee with this skin off and on since season 4 and the early Bewitching skins have a charm the newer ones traded for flashier VFX. (Random aside: I use the splash as my Discord avatar every October and nobody’s ever recognized which champion it is.)

Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever. Sits in the vault and only comes out during Harrowing events or if you get lucky with Hextech crafting. Seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season which honestly makes it feel more special when you lock it in. Played against one last Tuesday in a Diamond 2 game and my support literally pinged it like “nice skin.”

Should you pick up Bewitching Nidalee?

Real verdict: for 975 RP this is solid value. Nidalee has better skins now if we’re being honest. Headhunter is the tryhard pick, Cosmic Huntress has the cleaner VFX, DWG has the prestige factor. But Bewitching Nidalee fills a niche none of those touch.

It’s the fun skin. The one you lock in when you’re not sweating about cs numbers and lane prio and just want to throw spears as a witch cat. Kinda feels like Riot put genuine personality into this one before every skin needed to be an epic 1350 RP production. Best Halloween Nidalee skin full stop, though that’s not exactly competitive since she only has this one for the theme. Worth 975 RP if you main Nidalee and can catch it during a vault rotation. Skip it if you’re looking for competitive edge VFX clarity because the newer legendaries across the roster outclass it there. But for vibes and rarity in your collection, hard to argue against it.
